Donnie Buckley appointed to the backroom team, which is a positive. Unfortunately the feathered flapper remains at the helm.

Buckley is a great appointment as long as he is let do his job. There's no point of this being another cosmetic appointment of Banty and the Bantyettes. If the manager has the best interests of Monaghan football at heart, he should take the role of facilitator and let the talent take the lead.

A great coup for Monaghan but interesting to see how long Buckley hangs around.. I don't think it's feasible for a man hitting 60 yrs of age and living in Kerry to be driving an 8 hour plus round trip to Monaghan 2/3 times a week... not hard to know what his motive is... regardless of who comes in Unfortunately I think Father Time has caught up with Monaghan so unless we unearth new blood soon were going nowhere.. it all depends on the Ulster champ draw.. we need a handy straightforward run like 2020 to get a sustained run...

Publicity stunt. How long is the man gonna stick the drive from Clare to Monaghan? About 5 months. There's no collective training until mid January. Our inter county season will be well over by June. One season wonder.

Another big ticket added to the county set up. Imagine the money been thrown at the county set up last year and this for big ticket, outsider names and what this could do if it was invested in full time employees to improve all of Monaghan football for now and the future? More full time specialist coaches to get involved at clubs and all county squads.

All eggs into one barrel to chase staying in Division 1 and an Ulster title and to hell with the rest.

Strange appointment by the Banty. Gary Rodgers no doubt has been a great goalkeeper at soccer but does he have the experience of Gaelic goalkeeping coaching. As far as I have been told the 2 are quite different in coaching terms especially now with Gaelic so dependent on kick outs.
No harm to Rodgers but he must be getting a wage out of it and another big name and short term appointment by Banty.

County board coffers must be in healthy shape with all these high profile appointees.

Rodgers has coaches with 3 County teams previous to this. Also during Malachys term as manager we also had a dundalk GK coach for Rory although I am open to correction.

Rodgers could well be a great appointment

Interesting appointment - don't know much about him but hard not to be impressed by Dundalk in recent seasons so why not!

We are fortunate to have a great keeper with Rory and if Rogers can help him improve one or two of his weaknesses (not one of the top shot stoppers, does not save many penalties, his concentration dips at getting scorable frees by his standards on occasion) and Rogers also bring on other keepers in the county it would be well worth it. A succession plan for Rory is important too.

We are very fortunate to have a super keeper in Rory (up there as one of the best in the game at the moment) who is great under the high ball, has terrific accruacy from kick outs and scores some incredible frees from ridiculous distances - I don't think there was much he could have done about the goals conceded against Cavan this year. Like everything else, goal keeping continues to evolve and if you look at how dominant Cluxton is and how hard it is to get past him and, if Rogers has contributed in any way to how fine a keeper and shot stopper Galligan at Cavan has become, then sure why not seek his expertise?

I am sure anything Rogers brings will also benefit underage keepers in the county and that he will bring more than goalkeeping skills to the operation. You have to evolve and I am sure if Dublin were doing it (they likely are) we would all be giving out that we should be doing it too, that we are not ambitious enough, funding...

Monaghan have had Steve Williams as goalkeeping coach for the last 5 or so years. Williams played with the top Shelbourne team in the early 2000's winning 5 league titles. Was Dundalk goalkeeping coach for the last few years also until he left the club at the end of the current season. He is now Goalkeeping coach with Louth for the 2021 season.

People are making it out as a big deal that Rodgers is part of the back room team. Every county team has them, it's just the PR team involved with Banty throws every bit of news to the media to try and cover for the disaster of 2020.

Remember it was Steve Williams who was helping develop Rodgers game over the last 5 years with Dundalk.

Was thinking the same, didn't even know Williams had such a role at the time until I read an interview with Rory which mentioned him, and Rory credited him with bringing on his own game alot.

Not to say that Rodgers won't offer a valuable contribution and I hope he does, but it definitely seems a case of the news being made very public to make the backroom team changes look more positive.

Is this the same Gary Rogers who is now working as a fulltime scout for GestiFute according to the indo a few days ago?
If so I suspect that this might impact on his Monaghan commitments.
