Leinster SFC 2021: WH V LS

(Oldest Posts First)

So a new thread for the Laois game. Let's stay on the topic.
What is the latest, I heard Luke Loughlin back in. Will he make the starting 15 ?
Anyone making a late burst for inclusion. Give us your starting team.

Jason Daly Jack Smith Kevin Maguire Boidu Sayeh Sam McCartan Ronan Wallace James Dolan Sam Duncan Denis Corroon Darren Giles Ronan O' Toole Ray Connellan Lorcan Dolan John Heslin Ger Egan. That's team I'm hoping starts if injuries clear up but it's a toss up between Darren Giles and David Lynch at 10, Jamie Gonoud unlucky not to start, first sub replacement. Fola midfield sub. Luke Loughlin not on panel apparently. Fifty fifty game. Down's display against Donegal today shows where we are nationally, they beat us in league and they were annihilated by Donegal.

ray connelan will be a huge loss, this is a game we can win , but we have to go and do it . no hard luck stories , our league campaign was full of promise but we got relegated , no second chances here

I don't know about Ray Connellan's injury, just assumed as it looked serious at the time. Would be great to have him. Anyone hear anything reliable ?

Great to see Connellan named but will that team start ? Jack is a devil for the aul dummy team.
Lynch is one of his favourites with lots of experience but I thought McCartan might get the nod.
Bound to be a change or 2 before throw in but at least the expected subs got league action and will be ready to come in - Fola, McCartan, Mulligan, Giles, Slevin, McDaniel. Dolan deserves his chance ahead of Loughlin (not on bench either) .
Best of luck lads. Anyone get a ticket ?

Great result against a very poor Laois team. It's really a pity the way the league results panned out that we avoided them in the relegation playoff. Not taking anything away from our lads though. They kicked some very good scores. Ger Egan looks back to the form he was in before his injury. Lorcan Dolan also payed very well. In fairness the movement of all the forwards was good. Ronan O'Toole pulls the strings very well between the midfield and half forward line. We really have the beating of Kildare if we can play like we did in that second half today.

Fair play to all involved, decent 2nd half to blitz a poor Laois side. Maybe we were flattered by winning margin in the end, obviously influenced by the sending off. Delighted to see McCartan start and do well. Boidu maybe under a bit of pressure for the next day. Cant see any other changes. Kildare a step up but beatable.

Well done to all. Opposition poor and crumbled in second half. Lorcan Dolan grabbed his chance to shine and showed what he is capable of. Kildare will be a very different prospect.

So a double header in Croke Park Sun July 18th.
2pm: Kildare v Westmeath
43pm: Dublin v Meath

Forgot to compliment Lorcan Dolan - taking his opportunity to cement a starting place in absence of Loughlin.
Well done also to David Lynch - often criticised on this forum but feck the begrudgers !!

I'll hold my hands up and say that I'm one to sometimes have a crack at Lynch, just think he's always included for his work rate and running rather than footballing abilities, but thats the modern game I suppose, and I'm delighted to be proven wrong, took the goal well & thought he played some good football, fair play to him.
Loran Dolan was terrific, although I think our stand out performers were Maguire and Egan, Ger took some ridiculous scores and Maguire was tenacious in defence, reminded me of John Keane in his prime. Connellan was solid but way below what he's capable of, might still be carrying a niggle from the Down game.

Speaking of begrudgery, delighted for Jack Cooney getting a high scoring championship win under his belt, wasnt too much defensive about our football on Sunday! Great to have a Westmeath man steering the ship, hope we can kick on against Kildare on the 18th!

I have to say I'm.impressed with Westmeath. They played us Meath in Navan and they were very well organised. Leaving Dubs to one side I think Westmeath have the best defence system in leinster. It will interesting v kildare. Because kildare play route one/ long balls. Jack O Connor is playing 2008 style football . Meath last year placed sweeper in front of Kildare full forward line in the second half and kildare only scored 5 points in the 2nd half. I think you guys have a great chance. Sweeper in front of kirwan and Hylsnd for the game. And Neil Flynn is well marked. Westmeath can win this game.
Kildare haven't won a championship match in Croke Park in 7 years since 2014 they beat Offaly in Croker. They haven't won a leinster semi final in Croke Park in 12 years. They won semi finsl in 2017 but that was in Tullamore. They have only reached 1 leinster final in 12 years. You guys are going for your 3rd leinster final in 6 years. Kildare supporters dread their team playing in Croke Park its a real bogey ground for them lately. Bad record defeats to Meath, Dublin and kerry in Croker. Armagh Clare Galway have beaten them there. And of course Westmeath beat kildare in the last semi final you met. And the media are starting to hype kildare also now. Which always places expectation and pressure on them, which is never a good thing for them. .As I said very impressed by Westmeath this year. Shouldn't have been relegated. Will.win div 3 next year and I think Westmeath will be leinster final in the coming weeks.

attitude that we had in the second half v laois . sam mcartin for boidu would be my only change . with jamie gonoud going to corner back and sam to the wing

I don't see how Kildare are such short odds with the bookies (2/7 with PP at the minute). They are not that much ahead of us. Fair enough they are favourites probably going on results to date but even at that they lost to Clare, got over Cork but not convincingly and beat Laois but so did anyone else that played them. I think we are very good value at 10/3. We have the players to beat them but it will be a tight match.
