Intermediate Hurling Championship 2020

(Oldest Posts First)

Na Piarsaigh had a very impressive win over Kilmallock , 2 second teams playing intermediate shows the strength of those clubs. Granagh/Ballingarry and croom age old rivals had a right humdinger before drawing . Newcastle West a club making steady progress at all ages in Hurling had a narrow win over their neighbors Knockaderry . Pallasgreen just down this year had a good start beating Tournafulla six points.
Effin, Hospital , St Patricks and Feohanagh enter the fray this weekend as the 4 groups of three lead to top two in each group playing quarter finals . Very very hard to call at this stage .

Quarter final places will be decided this weekend. Na Piarsaigh will be fancied to beat Effin in group 1. Granagh Ballingarry v Hospital in group two will be interesting with Croom already through .
Newcastle West v St Patricks is too hard to call but Newcastle West might just prevail. In group 4 Pallasgreen and feohanagh meet to see who finish's first and second for quarter final spots.

4 group winners will be fancying their chances in these weekends quarter finals Croom , Newcastle West, Na Piarsaigh and Feohanagh . I'm sure all other teams will be quietly confident and Pallasgreen would look likely to give an up and coming NCW plenty to think about just down from Premier Intermediate.
Croom,Pallasgreen,Na Piarsaigh & Feohanagh for semi finals ill go with.

NCW and Pallas hard to call. It'd be interesting to see if NaP use Alan Dempsey and Cathal King in the senior championship - if they do the intermediates will struggle

Feohanagh, Na Piarsaigh , Croom and NCW all through to semi finals, hard to call at this stage maybe Feohanagh.
Feohanagh have experience of premier intermediate in recent years, NCW steady progress in hurling world continues with Na Piarsaigh second team showing the amount of good hurlers in Caherdavin, Croom trying to mix experience and youth , hard to call a winner.

Convincing victories for Newcastle West and Na Piarsaigh in the weekends two semi finals .
Most neutrals will be hoping for a Newcastle West victory which give a much needed shot in the arm to hurling in West Limerick , a few very determined individuals are quietly moving Newcastle West up the ranks with NCW playing premier minor and Under 16 hurling this year .
Na Piarsaigh on the other hand are a very well organised club on the verge of their second team going premier intermediate showing the pool of Hurlers in their club .

Sounded like a great final
Newcastle West 1-24 Na Piarsaigh 1-22 , Along with some very promising underage teams and a number of hard working hurling people , Newcastle West are edging their way towards been a serious hurling club in the next number of years and that would be great for Limerick hurling . Na Piarsaigh again showed the strength of their club and the number of high quality hurlers in their ranks .

Yeah it's good for hurling in West Limerick and Limerick in general that a town the size of Newcastlewest are gone up premier intermediate and with a bit of luck they might go senior in a few years. And Before people start saying they should forget about football the town is big enough to accommodate both.

Na Piarsaigh 2nd team getting to an intermediate final is some achievement, they are fast becoming a super club like you have in Dublin and Cork city. They have their begrudgers but there is no doubting the contribution they have made to Limerick hurling and hopefully they can develop a serious football team too to help out Limerick football.

Watched the final on live stream. Good quality hurling from both sides particularly in extra time where many of the scores were out of tue top drawer. Na P must have felt it was their day after an injury time comeback to force extra time but Newcastlewest recovered and finished the stronger team with their subs making an impact off the bench.
Na P are only likely to get better and will be playing Premier Intermediate and maybe higher before long.

I would assume Premier Intermediate is their limit? Not sure if its ever happened in Limerick but in other counties you cant have 2 teams in the same division, I think Sixmilebridge second team won the intermediate championship in Clare a few years back but couldnt go up. In Limerick the senior B top 2 play in county quarter finals so essentially its the same competition as senior A, can't imagine any club would ever be allowed a second team in senior B even if they were to win premier intermediate.

Premier Intermediate would be their limit. Clubs can't have 2 teams in the same championship.
