Midfield no but Half forward is surely worth a try, You can't say he wasn't effective there last year, and yes to Darren Hughes in full forward for a while, would be a handfull

My Team for the Tyrone match

Its important we get a good start to the league,if we can get 12 of those players playing we have a good chance against Tyrone.......I call a draw.

Monaghan's hopes depend on the first 5 games of the league if we don't secure safety by then i would be fearful with trip to Tralee and the Dubs coming to town.

Will Paul Finlay be available for the game against Tyrone,I see McKiernan's suspension only applies to McKenna cup so I presume it's the same for Finlay.

This would be my starting team:

1. Beggan
2. R Wylie
3. D Wylie
4. K Duffy
5. D Mone
6. V Corey
7. F Kelly
8 D Clerkin
9. E Lennon (if fit)
10 S Gollogly
11 D Hughes
12 P Finlay
13 D McKenna
14 K Hughes
15 C mcManus

Sorry, when is the last time Cavan beat Tyrone in the championship?

Finlay should be OK to play. Suspension only for McKenna Cup. Looking forward to Sat night. A tough opener for Monaghan. Heard nothing to suggest that Kieran Hughes is fit or Eoin Lennon for that matter but hopefully one or both will be and I would choose either of them at Midfield. Assuming that it is too soon for Lennon I'd go with

Beggan, McCarron, Wylie, Wylie, Mone, K Duffy, Kelly, D Hughes, K Hughes, Finlay, Gollogly, Malone, Meegan, McManus, McKenna.

If K Hughes is out I thinl Clerkin will again get the nod.
I think Meegan is a scorer and could help McManus out for scores. He played well all year for Inniskeen and he looked sharp in the second half against Cavan last week. Worth another go at this level I reckon. Hopefully some of the other new faces will get some game time in the league and push for places this year.

We were destroyed in the second half on Saturday night by an under strength Tyrone team and hung on thanks to a save by Gilsenan to a Monaghan team which was probably at 50% of its strength.
You have no right to come on here crowing that Monaghan will be relegated this year. It's facing us on the current performances. We were dismal against Fermanagh.
As senior level Monaghan have achieved more in the past 10 years that we have so you have no right to tarnish decent football loving Cavan people by posting immature comments.
Best of luck to Monaghan in the league and we look forward to what will hopefully be a competetive game in Breffni in may.
Meanwhile we have a LOT of work to do !!!!!!

Really accurate response to that other cavan poster... Great to see a bit of common sense.. To be honest yous were lucky against fermanagh but were probably overall the better team.. against us we were missing a few big names and yous got away in first half... then tyrone came strong in the second half and fnished well.. really looking forward to the real football time of year when we meet in Breffini.. Should be a cracker with both teams in full strength.. But its a bit harsh coming to another Countys page and wishing relegation upon them..

So whats the thoughts on this weekend? My thoughts are that we are well able to win this one. I honestly believe that we have a better team than Tyrone and with a few key players back, I don't think we have anything to fear. Going to Healy Park is never an easy thing to do, but we will need at least one win on the road, and I think this is one we should be aiming for. Midfield is a big concern, but then again it has been for a while now.

I know there were a number of injuries, but I also think that Malachy knows this and was holding back a few players in McKenna Cup to have them right and injury free for this one, as this will be a key game for us in Div 1. I suspect he was glad we didn't have two extra matches last week.

Monaghan by 3.

Tyrone fans expect nothing less than a comfortable win this weekend.

Did you mean to post that last week?

Our only worry for this weekend is the tumbling Euro adding a few quid to the price of the celebratory pints in Omagh

Dont worry about the euro rate Eddie, you need to be more concerned about our new midfield !

Strong team named. Glad to see a few faces back in the fold. Should be an interesting game.

I could be wrong but I reckon Monaghan will be the only county in the country this weekend to have 3 sets of brothers named in the starting 15 ? (i.e. the 2 Wylies, 2 Duffys, 2 Hughes)
We seem to have a long history in Monaghan of having sets of brothers in the county team, maybe it's actually the same in most counties.
A good strong team picked ( assuming of course that Malachy starts with that 15 !)
It will be close but let's hope we can start off with a win.

Looks like a strong team on paper.. Hope Daniel mc Kenna gets off to a good start as he could be needed throughout the year.. good to see owen duffy back hope he gets to grips with things after missing a good part of last year.. would rather see Mc Manus on the wing and leave Kieran inside with malone and mckenna.. Be interesting to see how the team play as this is a huge step up from div 2 and be great to get points on the board early on.. Should be an interesting game and expect plenty of scrapping but hopefully not too much and that its a good fast flowing game.. Im goin Monaghan by 3

Maybe players are lining out differently but I have to hand it to hardcore, he called 1st 15 earlier this week.
