Div 1 2015

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Not long now to the start of the league. Was at the Cavan game today. Thought we fought hard in second half , but showed that without some of our regular starters we were very ordinary. A couple of extra games might have done us good coming into Div 1.

Anyway any thoughts on a starting 15 for first match against Tyrone?

I presume Drew and Paul will both pick up 3 match bans??

Todays match will do no harm as a warning shot for the Summer. Start slowly in Breffini and its a long way back. Cavan against us there are always tough to beat. We are always going to struggle when missing regulars we don't have a big pick. Midfield is a major worry for year ahead no one coming through to replace old guns. Will do well to stay up and at the moment with home advantage Cavan have to start favourites in June.

Was at the game today too, in the second half we showed a bit of bite, but still a lot to be worked on,
one of them being shooting especially I thought our choice was not as good as it should have been, I think we should start taking points instead of playing a ball into the square a few times like the league final last year, and like Cavan did this year - why they got a big lead.
On a positive note we did the match today with out 5-6 key players , thought Kelly played well along with Wylie

Yous were awful today in the first half lads. I was disappointed, yous simply looked like yous didn't want to be there, no contest once we went 9 points up. A lot of players to come back for yous but your midfield needs attention. Looking forward to the championship now.

Yous have major issues at midfield. Mccadam not the answer. You looking at having to put Hughes there. Considering we were short Mcenroe, argue, brady, mackey amongst others should have yous worried for div one. Could be between yous and Derry to stay up

Thought McAdam was well out of his depth against G McKiernan, although he probably is getting used to the intercounty set up again. I thought Dick should have been on him from the start and put Finlay in FF, because McAdam just isn't the player you put on the likes of McKiernan, who is a marquee player for Cavan. Paul Finaly and Drew were very good along with Dessie Mone. Dick put in his usual one unreal point, followed up with his usual wider than a ducks arse attempt in second half, but sure we wouldn't have it any other way. Kick outs killed us for about 15 mins in the first half when we cold not even win one of our own. It wasn't just in the air, we couldn't get our hands on the breaking ball in the middle third either. Some of the team showed serious heart, some were out of their depth and some just wanted to be home in front of the fire.

Have to say I'd like to see more of Karl O'Connell this year, he is a player with serious pace going forward, I'd hazard a guess and say he is our quickest player.

Finally a word about Gollogly who I thought had a good game. He had an unreal catch in second half over his marker who must have been a foot taller - serious hang time, and from that we went down and got a point.

Anyway hopefully the break away from matches this week will give us a chance to prepare properly for the first round of the league. I think a win in Healy Park is achievable. I just hope we don't throw away a point like we did against Down in the first round last year.

was at the game yesterday and despite a great first half from us, I fear for the championship.
We relied on Gilsenan to prevent a draw with a save near the end. We have very few major players to come back while you have Lennon, the hughe's, Beggan and Mc Manus to name but a few. You definitely will have the edge on 24th May.

Wylie is fine, Monaghan will be without McGuinness, corey is only back and both Hughes and McManus are doubts.

So according to Supermon's team the McKenna cup has been useless with no new players breaking into the first team. I expect McCarron, Yankee and Connolly to be in contention for the Tyrone match.

Any word on Doogan and Paudie McKenna who haven't been seen so far this year.

Well McKenna Cup didn't exactly go well, two losses and a win against a college side that we were lucky to pull through in the end. I'm not saying that the players you mentioned won't make the starting line up or that the Mckenna Cup was worthless in finding new players, I rate McKenna, Connolly and McCarron highly and yes those three would also be a good option to start or come in, but I think we need to put out as strong and experienced team as possible in the early rounds of what is going to be a tough Division to stay up in.

Finlay will certainly get a couple of games. the pictures on sportfile will do him no good. I think wylie was sent off on second yellow so will only get one game.

Pictues you can't see him striking in either picture only video evidence is taken into account. He will miss one match. Stupid of him to get sent off would expect more from a player of his experience.

Supermon , would have O'Connell in the backs there if anything, or McGuinness in ? ( Where is he ? )
Also would switch McManus with Finlay , or at least try him there,

Agreed, I would have him dropping back with Duffy or Kelly playing sweeper role.

Just a thought, surely could McManus not be deployed at MF at stages of the National League. Try him for 10/15 mins per game. He is an excellent full forward but he provides more danger I feel running with the ball direct at a defence - you are left with no option but to drag him down. Darren Hughes was FF for scotstown all year and proved some worth. They could switch roles for 10/15 mins. It would give other teams something to worry about. He's a strong lad and great in the air and has abit of badness about him too.

kupa god no not a hope in hell. Id actually try Darren Hughes full forward for a bit in the league, Play McManus and one of the Hughes at all times in the full forward line.

Why not try him midfield? What harm can it do? Played there for Clont this year for periods.

He is our best forward it would be crazy he drops way to deep for Clontibret as it is. Keep your best forward beside the goal where he can do the most damage.
