Well he is the only eligible county keeper with a senior championship medal

I don't know of anyone else with one do you?

We have this debate every year here on HS and it normally starts around now and eases off round Patrick's day

Mc crann I now believe should wear number 1 he has control of his backs he can kick good kickouts

Sending them to backs midfield wingers or forwards

He is the best keeper we had since martin McHughs summer in 1994

We have had 3 other keepers since then apart from McCrann not 1 of them apart from Lyons was county or even senior club standard

They were brought in because of what club officials had county board jobs or on the basis of winning a senior/intermediate championship

They simply weren't good enough they had no cuteness in their kickouts and were blinded by forwards kicking balls at them that they wouldnt save in a month of Sunday's

Brendan Flynn has learned from McCrann and is still doing his apprenticeship if you will

He made some massive saves in the league and kept dignity in the team when McCrann was injured

He is good with his kickouts able to win an argument with a full back and come out with the ball or a save on the other end which in my opinion is all any of us asks for of a a keeper

Who would you think would step up apart from Benny Flynn? @20pointhero

very very poor list of names sent up 4 trials with the county, surely these trials are for one or two plyters to come into panel, the team will nearly pick itself from what i seen!!

That list will improve when Carrick and eslin do their trials

The main thing is every player that wants to play for leitrim gets a chance

I want to play for Leitrim. I certainly don't deserve a chance though.

Not sure about Donal Wynne but I believe the response has been excellent.
This is an excellent approach by the new management.
Perhaps from the ashes of Summer despair a new Leitrim will emerge.

I heard on the grape vine that some players attending trials are putting county before club. Is this true

Agree McCrann is No 1 No 1, young Flynn is a fine deputy whose day will come. In fairness Leitrim has had decent keepers down through the years. From Jackie Gallagher through to the Crossans, McHugh and Phelan we've been blessed with capable custodians. If only the other 14 positions were as straightforward!

I heard through the famous grapevine that there is going to be a strong emphasis on youth in the Leitrim set-up this year, panel wise. Have any of the established stars flourished at the trials or are there any in danger of being cut?

None of the current players positions are safe

When will we know the final panel that is picked for next year?

Not sure yet jimmy

Training is due to start back in about 2 weeks time

Mainly gym work fitness and conditioning

30 players will be picked for a panel maybe more

But I highly doubt a competitive team will be picked until the eve of the first div4 game

Never a good idea to show your hand while playing 25!

Surely Conor Beirne has to be brought back in to the squad? And surely they wouldnt insult his ability by asking him to do a trial

bucko71 (Leitrim) - Posts: 74 - 30/10/2013 19:01:40    1507567

@bucko71 I'd agree with your point

But even on a bad day, in my opinion conor Beirne is still 3 divisions ahead of any other forward in leitrim or on the county panel

So I wouldnt fear or freit him doing the trials it's probably a bit of an insult to have to ask him but start a clean slate as the manager said

And remember there isn't a forward in the county or on the county that's anything near the standard of conor Beirne

Joint second to Beirne woild be Kevin conlon or Robert Lowe

After that it's a lucky bag draw

So what you are saying is that conor beirne and mulligan have not to take part in any of the trials, that is a joke. so why has all the rest of last years team have to do trials, every player has to do the same thing and make no one better or managers pet the same as last year.

london are hosting trials this sunday and there is a beirne lining out for them

@ saintly mulligan????????? From mohill ya

I think that all players should do the trials to prove their worth

What I mean to say is division 1 class players like conor Beirne will sail trough the trials

He wouldnt have a problem walking into the Tyrone mayo Dublin or Kerry set ups and being named in the starting 15

@uni is there many leitrim lads in the running for a place on the London panel and will mulvey be back in 14?

the london game on sunday is for new additions to the squad half of this years team are gone, re mulvey its anyones guess, but there is quality around here if they turn out, lets put it this way if he gets everyone out he should i hope we dont need a win in ruislip in the last league game

mccarron, canavan, mossey all 3 tyrone lads would walk onto the team, few more we didnt see a lot of last year to add to that
