Tyrone still need Stevie!

(Oldest Posts First)

We cant expect good footballers to go on forever but if Tyrone are to take the 2014 AI they will need Stevie O Neill. They introduction of the black card is going to make matters a lot easier for him and a fit on form O Neill is a huge boost to any team plus he is a leader up front and so far few of the new stock has shown leadership qualities. Tyrone need O Neill and Gormley to strengthen their chances for this year. I would not like to see them sitting in dugouts in Mc Kenna cup matches or even early league stuff. Save them for the sunnier day.

If he does come back, I'm in total agreement, he shouldn't set foot on a pitch to the very earliest latter stages of league - Should Tyrone get that far.

totally agree but the need to retain the mckenna and keep the wolves from the door might mean stevie gracing healy park in jan.

There is no "Need" to retain the McKenna Cup, this is a pre-season comp that should be used to explore options and give squad players full matches. Progression in it and/or winning it is fine but shouldn't be an objective that dictates the rest of the season.
Key players with a lot of mileage or a poor injury record shouldn't be expected to play at full tilt in Jan in snow storms and the like. Players like Stevie, Conor Gormley and the McMahon's should be intergrated back into the match day squad in March. I want to see Stevie with a pep in his step in August not out killing dead things in January

Fully agree here. No need for to retain Mc Kenna cup. I know its not up to us here on this site to decide things like this but its a chance for the young lads to test their metal. I hope Stevie, the Mc Mahons and Connor Gormley and even S ean Cavanagh should not be seen in the Tyrone jersey before March.

Steven O'Neill is still a good player and worth including in the National League panel. However I agree that new blood needs to be brought on although it is disappointing to see Coney and McAlister have injuries at a time when they could be establishing themselves as regulars.

Stevie O'Neill does not need to play every game going from January right through to September.....we all know what happens, he ends up injured. He's past his physical best but still has the skill. He must be used more wisely.....kept free from injury and rested during micky mouse tournamnents..
