Connacht Minor Championship.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This championship finally up and running. Galway beat Leitrim by 11 points today to set up a Connacht semi final against us on Friday at 7:30 in the Connacht GAA Centre. Straight knock out championship which isn't great for the development of U17s but it is what it is.

No supporters allowed to attend, Connacht gaa will be streaming the match live.

We totally dominated that game could and should have won by more. Congrats to the players and management on a job well done.

Honestly, I seen the Roscommon minor result and it blows my mind. This Roscommon team were beaten out the gate in the Ted Webb in 2019 losing to Sligo 15 to 1-5 in the 3rd tier final part. Mayo and Galway split played in both tier 1 and 2 finals.

So in less than 1 year and 4 months, this group of Roscommon players go from being beaten well by us to beating Galway's 1st team.

I find that incredible. Ye didn't just beat Galway ye hammered them, it was 2-11 to 5 pts and then ye went down 14 men which allowed Galway to comeback a bit to 2-13 to 11pts.

I know the Ted Webb cup is a strange format, I know Minor can be unpredictable but Galway even had a game under their belt so had another advantage.

This is an incredible turnaround. How did ye do it?

As you said its unpredictable and we know that well from our own results at this grade the last few years. When fully tuned in we are capable of beating the best in this province as proved by beating All Ireland finalist Galway last year.

Half of last nights starting team didn't start in the Ted Webb match against Sligo, players whom stood out in that highly impressive win against Galway such as full forward Eoin Colleran and midfielder Oisin Cregg didn't play. We were highly competitive in the previous Ted Webb games, really should have beaten Mayo NS whom went on to win the Ted Webb Cup final by 6 points. Sligo after that win went on to win the Fr Manning Cup and I can imagine will fancy their chances to beat Mayo tomorrow.

Well done to our players and management on a fine win and performance last night, great to have a final to look forward too, when it will be played in these covid times is anyone's guess.

The Connacht Final is scheduled for the weekend of January 9/10 2021 but of course Covid may impact that.Roscommon haven't won a Connacht Minor title since 2012 which is too long.Hopefully we'll win this Final whenever it's played.

When it's played hopefully some supporters can attend especially the family members of the players. If we can win the final it would be our 2nd U17 Connacht title in 3 and a bit years.

Sligo 2 point winners in the other semi final today, as I said Sligo would fancy themselves to win with their success at U16. Make for a very interesting final whenever it played?

A rare Provincial Final in Connacht not featuring Mayo or Galway. Both ourselves and Sligo will be confident.Let's hope it can be played the weekend of January 9/10 next as scheduled.

Great win for Sligo today and fully deserved and timely morale boost for GAA in the county. Should be a great final.

Final penciled in for the 29th December. Right call I feel as I can't see any games going ahead in January and only right the 2020 Connacht championship is finished in 2020.

First Connacht Minor Final between Roscommon and Sligo since 1949 .What's rare is wonderful.Talk somewhere of the match being live on TG4 on December 29.Roscommon won a replayed Final in 1949 only to lose the title on a Sligo objection.

A lot of chopping and changing with the date but can't blame both panels wanting to play this final as soon as possible than waiting months for it to be played.

Hopefully we wont need the objection this time round :) Hoping for a great contest!

Congratulations to our Minor team and to the management team that prepared them so well.A great Connacht title to win in very difficult and trying circumstances not to mention the Stephen's day weather in Bekan. They remind me of the 06 team. Not that many individual stars but a great collective team effort and work ethic.Whenever the semi final against Kerry is played, it's a game to look forward to.

A job well done by the players and management in extremely testing weather conditions in the Connacht final. The lads was especially composed against the gale 2nd half and didn't lose such composure when Sligo had a late rally with 1-2 against the run of play.

Thats two U17 Connacht titles in the 4 years at a time will both Galway and Mayo have been very strong, hard to know when the All-Ireland semi final will be played with the current Covid situation but it was certainly the correct call to finish the Connacht championship before level 5 restrictions.

Heartiest congratulations to all involved. Great gutsy performance from both teams in terrible conditions. Some great talent coming through if it can be nurtured properly we have a bright future in Roscommon.
One criticism on of Connacht Council, having made correct decision to move game forward to 26th they should have fixed it for early afternoon. I kept expecting a move as they had a weather warning for at least 2 days before. It was very unfair on you lads to have to play in those conditions.
