No Dan or Peter included tomorrow night..they won't have much hurling done in lead up to cork game..delighted to see langan get a run but think he is better further out..looking forward to this one as I think Galway have improved hugely and will test limerick in a big way.

Cian Scully
Colin Coughlan
Jimmy Quilty
Adam English
Aidan O'Connor
Shane O'Brien
Oisin O'Farrell

Makes 7 Limerick players on the Fitzgibbon Cup Team of the year. Add to this Cathal O'Neill (who may have been in contention only he too many Fitzgibbon games through Injury). Not a bad haul. Future is bright especially when you consider other young players currently on the Limerick Panel who deserve honourable mention: Mathew Fitzgerald, Darragh Langan, Fintan Fitzgerald and Hugh Flanagan.

I haven't seen enough( at senior county) of Scully or Quilty to form an opinion. Fintan fitz or Hugh Flanagan either.
Adam, the Bull and Aidan are stars already. Im unsure about Colin. Hes a big strong lad who's good in the air and facing the ball. He has a great skill set in general. He has a significant flaw though and that is his lack of any pace and a really slow turn. He will be good when we are on top but vulnerable when teams run at him or get behind him. Oisin looks a bit light weight but I probably haven't seen enough of him either.
I love what I've seen of Mathew Fitz . I think he will be the real deal.A player you can rely on in a scrap
Langan is growing into it but needs more minutes.

I see that the new COE got through all stages of planning. It should be up and running in a couple of years all going well.
Big week for our underage / development teams. We haven't gone well at u17/20 in a few years. Mathew fitz at 11 , Flanagan at 12 and Ferland at 14. They need a good start to championship.

Very worrying, Limerick are close to bottom of the pile in Munster over the last couple of years at U20 level and doesn't look good for this time either. They actually played very well at times and hopefully they can turn it around the next day. The ferocity and intensity seemed at which they played seemed low to me. If they could dial it up another 10%-15% i think it would make a massive difference.

Hopefully the minor team go a bit better on Friday and give us a lift.

I would have to disagree with you on playing well at times. Our full forward line were on top but the rest of the team was a shambles
Our full back line was particularly bad. They didnt compete in the air at all and cork bullied them while the game was a contest. The middle 3 lines were dominated in quarters 2 and 3 also.

For me it starts and finishes with the coaching/management. This goes to u17 also.
The u20 manager was ousted from u17 a couple of seasons ago to give Dowling the gig. They totally under performed under him. Either that or they were over rated going in to that championship.
We started last night with a forward in goal, an 18 year old at FB and a pretty decent midfielder/ half forward at CB. We had over half the team born in 07 and one or 2 ( bench included) born in 08. No wonder we were physically bullied while it was a contest. Our 2 seniors didnt influence the game ar all. Fitz tried but was too far down the pitch too often and Flanagan was poor.
I really question the preparation, selection and tactics.
Its over to the minors now to see if they are any better prepared and set up.

the performances at underage for the past few years should be deeply worrying. The current senior team could win another AI or two but beyond that it hard to see enough talent coming through to keep it going, and we could be entering a lean period at senior level
We dont need to be winning provincials or AIs but at least we need to be competitive and have 3-4 top class players coming through every year
Right now I dont see it.

Hard to know if its preparation and coaching or if its raw talent - usually its a combination of both
Well off Cork and Tipp in general and even off Clare and Waterford with last years minor team.
The other have not just caught up with us but we have also slipped back

It's a worry because they havnt really been competive at minor for past 4/5 years..under 20 in past 3 years has been terrible..
I'd agree that winning these isn't as important as it is to be in the latter stages and becoming really hard to beat..I've also noticed that our underage players seem to have developed less than other counties especially the Munster counties.
Has the eye been taken off the ball in the underage system?? Is it a case that once the senior team are ok all else is forgotten about..
Hopefully the minors can put in a decent showing tomorrow night
