Vinny gone too, two great servants to Monaghan football who played big parts in many of our big days in recent years. Enjoy the retirement lads.

Thanks to both for all the years serious service, they were part of some great days for us.
Obviously neither of them fancied listening to banty 2.0....

Thanks to dessie and vinnie. Great men but the time was right. Respect is earned and then earned it ten fold. Great men. Two men who were always in the 26 man squad and who will need replacing. Thanks guys.

As much as I don't want to agree with you kinda have to. He looked a bit lost in a lot of the matches I seen him in. You'd hope just first season settling in to inter county etc. Reminds me a bit of Hanratty from ten years ago capable of doing it loads of ability but couldn't be relied upon.

All been said about Vinnie and Dessie heart and soul of the team and squad for a decade and a half but right call for them. They'd come full circle with banty back now and leave with heads held high. Vinnie for me despite his qualities at full back and full forward was at his best as a marauding half back. His injury prior to the ulster final in 2010 was a massive blow that day always a man for the big occasion great leader. Dessie Mone improved greatly over the years from a tight marking corner back one of the best in the game to a fantastic half back who could read the game well and was savage on the counter to take a score or two. Great leaders who will be v hard replaced.

McCarthy has done plenty, more so coming off the bench rather than starting.

o'hanlon is class and will be class. if he has walked away i hope its not forever.

True he didnt set the world alight this year but he's still young and quite light. There's also the lingering over-reliance on mansy with all our forwards, and the former mgmt's instructions to not be ambitious

Best wishes to Dessie & Vinny, 2 stalwarts & legends, both deserved all-stars..... but they will always be all-stars in our eyes!

I see! Well It's important that Dick reminds us that Dick also played with them

Vinny and Dessie will leave a big leadership void that others will need to fill. But that's what needs to happen, new voices to come forward and take hold of responsibility. I reckon we'll see Vinny is some kind of coaching or managerial capacity for Monaghan in the future with his bother Martin along side him.

In fairness we all know the two lads wouldn't have had such playing careers and achieved the status they did without the bould Dick's influence over them.

The team that Banty puts out on Sunday against Cavan, will it be anything like the team on opening day of the league or against the same opposition in the summer? Any thoughts on the starting 15?

Didn't make match but team on Twitter showed a few regulars with some u20s from last year. Good to see Chris McGuinness back if he is back for the year. Be interesting to see the panel for the league and how it shapes up.

Was at the game. Was probably easier to see the men that are not county standard than pick out the men who are county standard.

Big crowd at the game yesterday and a credit to everyone that attended and bought tickets etc.. shows the power of the GAA in the hour of need.. while at the match yesterday it just reinforced the fact that football is really a distant 2nd when it comes to everyday life.. we should cherish every day.. the very best wishes to the Tate family And please good everything works out well..

on a side issue Can someone just clear up have we a sub goalkeeper on the panel??? Crazy crazy stuff Beggan playing yesterday.. it's sending out some message to other possible goalkeepers throughout the county
