Mc Kenna Cup v Cavan

(Oldest Posts First)

Whats the thoughts on the Doire Cavan game for those who bothered to watch , if you attend you can air your thoughts. First game so we cant say much, though I was very pleased with Niall Holly who came on as sub near the end . If you dont shoot you certainly wont score, was unlucky not to have 2 points to his name ! And did a bit of work in the midfield , during his short gametime..

Ropey enough first 15 mins in each half but the first game is always scrappy and full of mistakes and blowing the cobwebs off - McBride looked ok at CHB good performance for O Boyle and Harbinsons kickouts were poor but early days and a lot of football ahead of us - Doire Abú !

derry were very lucky to come away with the result they did. cavan missed a series of scoravle frees throughout the game and particularly towards the end and should have won the game. cavan had two giants at midfield and both dominated the derry midfield and they also had a number of very good players all over the field. I think cavan will be a match for an overated donegal in the pre lim of ulster and I wouldnt be surprised if they come through to play derry in the q/f

on the + side, thought that nccamley, lynn, mcbride, mckaigue, o boyle did very well. the derry keeper was not very impressive with kickouts. mckaigue/oboyle partnership looks to have great potential.

first competitive game of the season...two points...looking forward to the uuj game on sat

Ah I love the McKenna cup! I was at the match, I agree was quite ropey at times but what do we expect for the first week of January? I thought the boys lacked a leader, Someone mentioned O'Boyle, I didnt really think that O'Boyle stood out, seemed to have missed a few high balls and ran straight into defenders when he actually got the ball, However no one on the day really stood out on singular performances. When Giligan came on the team was lifted a bit, Maybe the experience was key, Derry were very lucky to come away with a win. As I say early days, No major concers as of yet. Doire Abú

Not sure where you were kingpuck1 or what match you were at saying as how i dont know who you are and i wouldnt therefore recognise you if i saw you. im sure youre old enough to look after yourself so you should really know where you were without asking others to remind you.
by the way, i was at the derry v cavan game and i thought e lynn played well.....

hi i wasn't at the game can you tell me how e.scullion played at full back, from all reports Brennan was pleased with the bellaghy man and says he seems to be the man to fill our problem position at full back, i know he was sent off for two yellows but was it a harsh sending off? Anyways he is out injured for 3 wks with a broken thumb but will be fit for the lge campaign. I'm a fan of Niall Holly's would have liked to see more of him in the league but he's due for an ankle operation and will miss the league we seem to be building a good squad hoping for a good run in 2012
