Minor Footballers

(Oldest Posts First)

I see the minor footballers are out this weekend at home to Louth? How are they fixed? Anyone to look out for?
I hear they are yet to get shorts & socks or any gear? It's laughable, trying to compete with Leinster & Connacht rugby academies, soccer, etc for these guys, any wonder they go elsewhere. Every club & secondary school in the county is probably better organised.

Surely there's a few bob from the Movathon available for shorts & socks. The senior hurlers are off the Carton House for a training weekend.

Here we go again. Another whinge or gripe about socks or togs. Any player who chooses another sport due to gear is not worth worrying about. Minor board with Alan Leech and Kevin Jordan do Trojan work. Thankfully, club minors turned out in their droves to get on minor football panel so guess that renders your argument irrelevant.

Who are the players to look out for on this team? You'd like to think the louth game is winnable .

I believe the issue in relation to gear is higher up the food chain than the minor board.
It's not the actual gear that's the issue though, it just highlights a distinct lack of interest from the senior county board officials in promoting the minor team.
Young lads have so many other options available now (not just other sports!) social life, work, education, etc, they need to feel valued. Surely to god starting with a bit of gear would go some way to showing they have an interest in them.
You can bet the minor teams in Mayo, Kerry, Tyrone, Dublin etc aren't treated with the same lack of respect.
Cork U20 manager Alan Rickman put it well when he said young lads are only interested the the 3 G's: Gear, Grub and Games!

Wow, Moate must have a serious minor team.
Cooney, Ormsby, and Stuart-Trainor. Blast from the past.

Extremely disappointing display. Obviously hindered by Covid regulations in terms of prep time but Louth in the same boat. Second half display with the strong breeze was especially poor. Louth won at least three of the quarters. Keenan from Tang looked lively in the opening half and Mulvihill coped well despite being under a lot of pressure. Louth look to be improving at all levels. There's a few of those lads underage next year but that's the only bit of positivity.
