Cheers Footie. I only started listening to this last week. Not only great analysis but the lads are fierce craic and not a trace of political correctness.

Mayo still giving away soft goals early in matches. They need a more physical full back line, They have good corner backs in E O Donoghue and P O Hora but for some reason Horan wont play them, Keegan is best in the half backline and Mullen is wasted at fullback, he would cause huge amount of trouble to ant team played in the full forward line and let roam the field, also after today A O Shea is needed at full forward for his height and strength, full forward line was bullied today by tight marking WEstmeath full backs.

All teams concede goals Jack, Donegal conceding twice as many as Mayo did in their respective games and fortunate not to concede a few more. Mayo only stands out because it happened in a couple of finals. In that context it was a body blow no doubt about it, but outside of that I don't think Mayo get caught early any more than the average.

I agree with you regarding our FB line. I've never liked Keegan playing there, but with a gifted back like Brendan Harrison not fit and so many defenders (Cafferkey, Vaughan, Barrett, Higgins, Crowe) having opted out in a short time there's no avoiding different faces. Experimentation can't go on forever and as much as I like the two players you mention, we're all aware that defense isn't just about the best footballers, it's about the unit, physicality, mobility and how they complement each other. Look at Kerry. All the lads they've brought in are individually good footballers but they're not not wired like the likes of Aidan O'Mahony or Tom O'Sullivan of the past, who'd spend the whole game holding their marker's jersey and not care a bit if they never got to play ball themselves. We need a couple of those types of players too, so we don't have to keep using the likes of Keegan or Mullin in parts of the pitch where their abilities are not used to better advantage. Those two lads are willing to do the job for the jersey though, which says a lot about their character and the attitude of the panel.
