Senior Hurling Championship 2015

Murray pulled off 2/3 top class savesv NaP last Sunday, hard to blame the goal on him with 7/8 players in the small square and he only saw it at the last second. Apart from his goal keeping he is as brave in the goals as you could get and he's puckouts are the best in the county which is an underrated part of a dominant half forward line in the air. If you were to judge him on his year with the 'well and the intermediate team he deserves to be in the top 30 players in the county but the criteria for picking the senior panel is hard to figure out

updwell - agree that he should definately be ahead of Hennessy, McCarthy & Murphy in the pecking order but would he be happy to sit on the bench if the management prefer Quaid? I personally dont think there's too much between Murray & Quaid but I doubt Quaid would be dropped - he's been very reliable for the last few years..

cappajoe - NaP moving King to full back changed the game alright - Kevin O'Brien was having a field day until then. In fairness to Barry Foley, he had a right go (on and off the ball!) at shackling Downes and I'm not sure if Patrickswell had anyone that could had came on and done a better job

dont agree breen eas making a better fist of markin o brien have great time for barry but even his touch was off a body back in front of foley was an option with 10 to go.the 'well have made great strides this year but this was a great chance lost. say the 'well presumed dowling would be full

My impression of Murray was that he was an outstanding shot stopper on his "good" side - I saw him pull off some outrageous saves that he had no right to make back in the day. Unfortunately, he was average enough on his "weak" side and this was figured out by intercounty management / players to the point where they'd always target this area. Having not seem him play since he left the senior intercounty scene, I don't know whether this is still the case and whether he has improved on this part of his game. Unless this has happened, then I would say Quaid's consistency is the better choice for the senior #1 jersey.

Fairly accurate assessment Kurt. And Murray's other weakness was a shot low around his body. Shanahan and Corbett in 07, Clancy in 08 and judging by the county final it's still an issue.

The goal in the county final Mike was a pull on the ground inside the square that went through 4/5 bodies before he saw it. Any mention of the 2/3 saves he pulled off during the county final. What about the drawn match in with Tipp in Thurles in 07 when he had save after save that night. Every goalie has a weakness including Murray but he has a lot going for him aswell

Personally I'd go with Quaid but held off on saying exactly just what updewell said on county final goal. It was nothing like a shot to his "weak" side but I didn't want to be first to say it or I'd be accused of being argumentative. I'd be comfortable with Murray as our second choice keeper if not then Murphy and then McCarthy. Cannot for the life of me understand how Hennessy was no 2 this year. One of many ludicrous selections made by a selection team that worryingly remains largely in tact.

Agree updwell he has loads going for him. His puckout in particular is better than anything we have had over the last few yrs. But the weakness to a low shot is glaringly obvious and it's a massive weakness. If it can be sorted hen Murray is an obvious option but for me he hasn't shown any improvement in that part of his game so for now, it's a risk not worth taking.

Mike 03 - I strongly disagree with the comment re Murray being not worth taking. I think I'm the one who got it going about bringing Murray back in - at the very least he'd be an excellent backup to Quaid, much better than those who filled in while Quaid was injured this year imo..

Mcfan backup is fine. In a normal year the back up goalie isn't needed so it doesn't really matter who is there.

I fancy a bet on Na P.
I think David Breen would strengthen the half back line if available.
Anyone have an update on his fitness?
