have to agree Derry learned more about themselves from this loss than they did from the previous 3 games - to come from 11 points down against the form team in this div and at the finish could have got at least a draw - shows this team has character - absolutely proud of the Boys and no shame in this narrow defeat - Doire Abú doirebhoy (Derry) - Posts: 344 - 09/03/2014 17:08:34 1557085 Link 0 |
Very unfortunate not too come away with anything today. Next up us Dubs and from the way you,s are playing it wont be an easy one. Especially with you,s having home advantage. Looking forward to this one seen i have plenty of derry friends :-) DUB1 (Dublin) - Posts: 5583 - 09/03/2014 20:24:23 1557282 Link 0 |

Enormously encouraging performance from Derry in many ways. In the first half Derry were blown away by fast, direct football from an excellent Cork team of a different calibre and intensity than they have been used to playing. For the first twenty five minutes it looked like they were going to get the mother and father of a hiding and to cap it all, Sean Leo got a bad knock and wasn't able to come out for the second half. Everything that could go wrong was going wrong but Derry kept the head and fought their way back into the game inch by inch and only got better as the match progressed, to the extent that Cork only just about hung on in the end. That's a really good Cork team, I believe, full of strength and pace and power and more than able to kick their scores. Mark Lynch once again showed his leadership when the going got tough, as did Fergal Doc who was his usual warrior self in what was a real battle around the middle. I thought Ciaran McFaul was excellent as well, he really took on the responsibility when it was needed. Enda Lynn was another who stepped up brilliantly and Benny Heron won breaks, was mobile, intelligent and industrious when brought on. Derry rose to the considerable challenge posed by Cork, they were able to up their game and their intensity and made the right changes when they were in trouble. doiregael2 (Derry) - Posts: 334 - 09/03/2014 21:57:11 1557407 Link 0 |
Very promising performance by all accounts but need to focus on the games ahead now. It still could be very tight at the bottom, West Meath are as good as gone but Kildare still have to play them. We need to take something against the Dubs or the following game against Kildare could be extremely vital to our season. I've faith in Brian and this team that we are continuing to progress, i just dont want the worry in a few weeks time! In saying all that a few more points and hopefully end up in a play off. An extra game or 2 before Donegal would be great. This_Year (Derry) - Posts: 105 - 10/03/2014 13:27:31 1557650 Link 0 |
