Dessie flattened his marker after he played the ball away. Couldn't have any complaints about it. He now has 2 black cards this year...pick up a 3rd against Dublin, and he misses Cavan game. Must be on best behaviour. Someone I spoke to thought Kieran Hughes was in the same boat, but I wasn't sure if he already got one before the one last Sunday?

We need someone in our half forward line who is willing to run with McCaffrey , he was very dangerous going forward and time and time again ran at our defence.

Stick Karl o Connell on him for pace. Match ups really important this weekend. I'd play McKenna in the forward line to try and give us more options. He was getting game time earlier in the league and we need to be looking at taking some of the pressure off McManus. I'd start Dick in this game also as he played well on MDMc last August. It's a big ask but really hoping team gives a performance and at least make a game of it give Dublin a proper game. This is the best league we have had in almost 20 years so important to finish it on a high ahead of summer.

Just a couple of points regarding last Sundays game and some of the incidents. The Dubs were brillant and if they are going to be like that for the rest of the season we will have to change our gameplan for playing such teams. We cant go toe to toe as they just have more to play this type of game. However if we play them with a more defensive attitude they can be frustrated,as we saw against Derry. We are a much better team than Derry and we have to play to our strengths.A couple of things that I saw last Sunday which impacted negatively to us.Vinnie should have scored his goal chance this would have brought us back to a point at the time. The incident when Darren Hughes played the ball through with a Dublin player on his back, this is why the black card was brought in.The referee bottled this one.On Dessies black card it happened just in front of where I was,the Dublin player grabbed Dessies jersey and swung him around as this happened Dessie grabbed hold of the Dublin players jersey and grabbed him and pulled him down. The linesman was the closest to the incident and was unable to assist the referee. Then when Rory O,Connell was boxed in down at the corner he just threw the ball up along the line to one of his colleagues,so instead of a 14 metre free to us they went down and scored from this. Now I am sure that none of these incidents swung the match they collectively certainly didnt help.Lets get to Croker on Sunday we still dont get there to often so lets go and enjoy the day out.We were poor in some of our shot selection and everything the Dubs hit went over some of the scores were just outrageous and this does not happen everyday.Again we are being patronised in all sections of the national media, this will suit us and lets hope "OUR TEAM "have had a good weeks training and come back refreshed.See you up there on Sunday.

Sceptical is having trouble sleeping with the 24th looming in 6 weeks time. His sleep patterns are all over the place waking up in hot sweats. Endless hours are spend trying to convince himself that Cavan are better than Monaghan. Hoping and praying for a Cavan win. That worried about Monaghan he has ordered from the Congo voodoo dolls of The two Hughes, McManus and Dessie Mone don't worry sceptical it's only a game of football and if Monaghan do win and go far in the all Ireland series the Cavan people can still convince themselves that the future is blue and we are as good as Monaghan.

Regardless of today's outcome, we are must recognise the progress this team has made to earn the right to play at the top table.

All the best boys, let us prove a few points ...and thank you.

Heard Kevin Mcstay on the radio Friday questioning what business had Monaghan going to Croke Park.
Typical journo talk. Even though you were beaten out the gate by Dublin last week, you still have earned your place by beating Tyrone Kerry etc.
So I'm going to say good luck Monaghan today.

See yis in a few weeks lads

Well done to the boys after a no doubt tough week of training to come out and show what we are really about today. Unlucky not to get something out of it. All well done to the few hundred supporters who travel we never let the team down and they don't let us down. Show how big the bandwagon is now

Did Rory Beggan become the first Monaghan man to score a 65 in Croke Park?:-). Brilliant today, with Drew and hopefully Colin to come back I look towards Cavan with slightly less dread.

Hard luck to the lads today but pride restored. Great second half performance and could have easily won it missed some chances towards the end. Couldn't fault the effort from the players. Kieran Hughes was superb in the middle today. One negative was the lack of support for the team there today which was disappointing after all these lads have given us over past few years.

Well worth the journey to see Monaghan put in a great game, Hughes was brilliant, Whatever about Dublin missing 2-3 players , their bench is one of their strong points and you can only beat what is put out in front of you, great performance,

It was great to see Monaghan back in a national semi-final and the people who didn't go missed out. Monaghan were shaky enough for the first 20, didn't cut out a lot of dangerous ball, looked like they were nervous and afraid to make mistakes that might lead to a goal but still gave up a few dangerous chances. Midfield and kickouts misfired totally at that stage. Once they got up and going though they played well with some great scores keeping them in it. Second half was much better and they could have easily won. Dick Clerkin and Gollogoly made a big difference when introduced and a few players looked like they wanted to impose their game on Dublin, which is always a good sign. A bit more clinical decision making and we could be in a first (div 1) league final since the 80s. Kieran Hughes was very good around the middle. McManus was fantastic as were Wylie and Karl O'Connell. Darren Hughes and a couple of other reliables were quiet enough today so there is still room for improvement. The div 1 campaign and this game have given Monaghan a good look at the top teams. The players just have to really believe that they can compete at this level, basically bully their way to the next level. That's what it takes and that's the challenge for the team. The pace and intensity will increase from now on, so hopefully Monaghan can take another step forward and enjoy another long summer.
