Brilliant performance and certainly didn't think I'd be leaving the ground disappointed we only got a draw. Felt we should have pushed on when we were ahead as we had them on the rack but tended to try to play around with the ball a bit too much at that stage. Getting quick ball in was working very well. Agree on previous post about the keeper. Should also have caught the ball for their second goal also but did make a good save in the first half (at least I think it was him and not the defender). Good result although 2 points would have been a huge boost. Cork at home will be tough but home advantage and confidence should help. harleys (Leitrim) - Posts: 296 - 26/01/2020 09:55:23 2262399 Link 0 |
Played very well yesterday evening should have won it we conceded two poor goals at stages when we were in control of the game. Wouldn't be too hard on McKiernan the swirling wind made it a nightmare for a keeper under a high ball thought he done well overall. Our defence overall was very solid with Conor Reynolds and Paddy Maguire outstanding. Just not cute enough to close the game out would have been delighted with a point before the game however I feel now that was definitely a point dropped however if there was another minute in that game we would have lost which would have been a disaster. No disrespect to the subs introduced all talented young footballers but we were lacking in experience and power on the bench last night when we needed it hopefully Mark Plunkett and Ryan will be back for Cork game . All in all a decent start to the league green.and.gold (Leitrim) - Posts: 400 - 26/01/2020 10:19:49 2262411 Link 0 |
Now there is a performance every Leitrim supporter can be proud to be associated with. Congrats to the players and the management. OnTheBank (Australia) - Posts: 161 - 26/01/2020 11:19:57 2262432 Link 0 |
Great result for Leitrim, hope they don't rue dropping the point at the end of the league as the win was very much on the cards. mightyday (Australia) - Posts: 15 - 26/01/2020 14:26:05 2262495 Link 0 |

I would honestly love to know what game you were watching Darragh Rooney was not outstanding very average and is looking slow Dean McGovern was outstanding his work rate was phenomenal the tracking back he done stopped us from conceding a lot

Hopefully they'll make it as difficult as possible for Cork, we shouldn't be afraid of them, Offaly went toe to toe with them and Offaly are a team we are surely targeting for two points. Scoring difference could be huge at the end of the league. mightyday (Australia) - Posts: 15 - 28/01/2020 11:52:00 2263164 Link 1 |
Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. We are still favourites to get relegated. Great to get the draw but this is only a stepping stone to a massive few games in the next couple weeks. We need to get at least another 4 points. MadAboutLeitrim (Leitrim) - Posts: 22 - 28/01/2020 21:13:17 2263326 Link 0 |
There is no danger of Leitrim getting ahead of itself. Yes we are still favourites for relegation. However it is in the control of ourselves rather than what pundit's say will happen. Leitrim Supporters are always behind the team once they put in good performances. However it is important for the management and players to have ambition and then back up that ambition with top drawer preparation. I suggest we are making progress and would ask our supporters to come out in big numbers for the upcoming games and get behind the players. joeman123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 199 - 28/01/2020 22:23:27 2263351 Link 1 |
A couple of years ago we started div4 with ZERO points from 2 games and joked we needed a div5. It's hard not to get carried away when you come to work and people are noticing our Derry result with respect following on from last year. Terry and his team must be some operators. They are getting it out of the players and they have belief. 1.14 and hitting Derry on the counter attack with speed. It's great been a Leitrim supporter at this time of year again! Great to be playing some big name teams considering how close Cork came to Kerry in the Munster final last year. Mugatay (Leitrim) - Posts: 84 - 30/01/2020 10:51:23 2263709 Link 4 |
Good luck to Leitrim and Terry Hyland on the weekend. You have a real genuine football man at the helm. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 489 - 31/01/2020 12:35:47 2263964 Link 0 |
Well done on a great point in Derry last week. Best of luck at home to Cork at home tomorrow. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1003 - 01/02/2020 21:19:07 2264310 Link 1 |
Good display in Carrick on Shannon today against a way superior team in Cork. Leitrim will go to Pearse Park in Longford quietly confident. Highland has earmarked this game as one they want to win. moreinu (Leitrim) - Posts: 20 - 02/02/2020 16:55:47 2264502 Link 1 |
Leitrim were competitive today and matched cork physically which was a positive. Rooney had a goal chance early on and playing against the wind would have been a huge score. McKiernan made some mighty saves to keep us in it. I suppose in the finish up the score line was fair enough. Huge game next weekend especially with Longford drawing with Louth today. We have a point more than I thought we would have at this stage of the league. Champotime18 (Leitrim) - Posts: 221 - 02/02/2020 17:18:40 2264515 Link 0 |
Thought it was a very decent performance today against a the Divisions top promotion contenders. Shane Quinn had a super game as did Paddy Maguire and many others but our fielding at midfield especially in the first half was questionable as it was against Derry last week. Physically and fitness wise I see a big improvement on last year and am very confident for the games ahead. 3 massive saves today that wouldn't be out of place in any stadium. Good experience for Leitrim, playing one of the top teams, albeit one who has fallen a bit in recent times and matching them for large parts of the game mightyday (Australia) - Posts: 15 - 03/02/2020 08:52:40 2264734 Link 0 |
