Fainleog it is a cracking Dublin team and Dublin supporters are rightly enjoying the success . I don't believe The GAA needs any team to be pre eminent in order for it to thrive . Kerry were in the doldrums between 1986 and 1997 yet we had the great Meath Cork rivalry and the re emergence of Ulster as a force in those years. Dublin were largely peripheral between 1995 and 2011 yet we had great Meath, Galway, Kerry, Armagh and Tyrone teams doing battle in those times . What we don't need is a small group getting so far ahead of the rest that essentially only a very few games matter. We had that from 1975-1981 and we don't need it again. Hopefully those Dublin posters I mentioned earlier have now calmed down.

Hang on I've been consistent all year in what I've posted on here so don't be telling me to calm down now that I'm right;

I said Dublin without a doubt after last years All Ireland would win Sam in '15 I was right

I said that was an average Kerry team I was right

And I've said The Roc is the greatest I was right

Clondalkin'
And I was glad that Dublin beat Kerry in the final. I don't think medal stats are the measure of a player. You did bring it up though!

Let's take just one test example, as a comparison:

John O'Keeffe, Kerry, from the late 60's to the mid-80's:
AI medals=7
Munster medals=12
NFL=7
All-stars=5

And that is without ever going into club or underage stuff!

Periods come and go! Teams come and go!

John O'Keeffe is still being, and will be forever referenced for his full-back play.

Hope you're still alive 30 years hence, Clon! Will we then still hold with your magnanimous evaluation of ROC in the same light as just a few days after winning an AI title???

Calm down Clondalkin. You're losing the run of yourself in a major way. You said Dublin would win the All Ireland this year. Big deal. A lot of us did the same. That "average " Kerry team you speak of managed to get all the way to an All Ireland final in defence of their title. That is an achievement that has to this point been beyond Dublin. Maybe Kerry are not that "average". Finally Rory O Carroll is "the best ever ? Try John O Keeffe, Darren Fay and Cormac Mac Anallen for starters. Like I said you and your fellow Dublin posters need to calm down. Better still you have your own county forum to post on. Keep these silly, self serving threads for your own forum.

Saw this
Saw who started the thread
Laughed out loud
Rolled on the floor laughing

He's not even the best full back in the modern game (was he included in today FM's recent 15 for 15 team) nope...
He's not the best full back in Dublin's history, wouldn't hold a candle to the great Gerry Hargan (a tough B*****d of a footballer but bloody fair too)
He's not the best full back in the Leinster history I could name 4 Meath full backs who's boots he'd not even lace..
He's not the best full back in footballing history either John O'Keefe of the great Kerry teams, Colman Corrigan of Cork, Noel Tierney of Galway.... Hell Seamus Moynihan, Neil McGee, Francie Bellew were/are all better

But just to appease you Clondalkin....

Yep the ROC is the greatest thing ever, since sliced bread and before the heel was invented.

Although playing most of his career at midfield I feel Cormac McAnallen RIP would have went on and became one of the all time greats in full back. His transformation into full back was probably the turning point of our season in 2003. A great leader, a great captain. Captained us to minor and u21 All Ireland's. A pity this great man never got to raise Sam Maguire as captain.

Before the Jimmy McGuinness era McGee was regularly coughing 1-5 to his man

Highhunt you mean "before he had 14 men back there to help him out"

He wouldn't lace The ROC's boots

Fullbacks are a protected species nowadays, with at least one but often two or three minders to look after them. It's like watching a child starting to walk with minders always ready to come to his aid if he shows any sign of coming under pressure. I'm surprised O'Carroll or any fullback is even allowed to walk from the sideline to the edge of the square without their helpers.

Will someone please ring the men in white coats and tell them there going to need extra strong cable ties to restrain the bag of crazy called Clondalkin before he's hauled away, the ROC sweet Jesus will you stop, I'm waiting to see which of the Dublin starting 15 is going to be immortalised in marble on O'Connell Street for nobody to recognise, or which will have his puss emblazoned on the new €20 note or on this years Christmas stamps, one or two are sure to run to replace Michael D in the next presidential election and surely MDMA is going to replace the Timotei girl and Jack McCaffrey and Brian Fenton the andrex puppies.........the Dubs are good we know it we don't need different threads every day to remind us and we certainly don't need crap like the ROC is the greatest full back of all time, if you think that you haven't been looking at football very long

In all fairness Rory O' Carroll is a great full back. He is a natural full back and has not been converted like many other full backs. He is probably the first name on the team sheet and is a superb defender. The Dublin defense is built around Rory O'Carroll. We need only look back to the drawn game against Mayo to see the way Dublin missed him. He has won 3 Senior All-Ireland medals and is only 25 years of age. Rory O'Carroll had a big part in Dublin winning those three All-Irelands.
