Just watched on Eir sport Dublin v Armagh in 1977 All -Ireland Final.High scoring game well won by Dublin.Roscommon should have been in that Final .We blew a big lead in the drawn semi final v Armagh.Even at that, Dermot Earley had a 50 at the end of the match to win it.Roscommon lost the replay by one point with plenty of missed chances.I think Mickey Menton hit the post.We'd go on to win 4 Connacht titles in a row.Our best team since the 40s.Unfortunately,we didn't of course get to the Final until attempt number 4 in 1980 beating Armagh in the semi final.These were great years for Roscommon football but the big prize just eluded us.

Croke Park has not been a happy hunting ground for us in my lifetime, how often have we won there since the semi final win in 1980?

We have had League wins in Croke park such as beating Cavan in the divisional Final but I don't think Roscommon have won a senior championship game in Croke park since that All -Ireland semi Final win over Armagh 2-20 to 3-11 in August 1980.

Had Meath on the rack in 91. Contrived to throw it away. That was probably the last time we came close to winning a chsp game in Croke Park imo. Gave a decent display in 2003 v Kerry as well but conceded something like 1 20..yeah a chsp win on the fortress would be nice in the next number of years at least.

Should have won the first day out against Mayo few years ago. Had a great early lead and were lucky to level with Donie Smiths late few but we should have won that day.

Certainly it was missed opportunity against Mayo just like the 2011, 2014 meetings was, thankfully we got that monkey off our back in May 2019 and all the more pleasing to do it in MacHale Park.

Yes I was at both of those matches.We were well beaten by Kerry in 2003 but we got a couple of late goals to make it respectable.We should have beaten Meath in 1991.Lost by a point.Derek Duggan scored a great Roscommon goal that day.We missed early chances and that Meath team were very dogged.They had beaten Dublin in the 4 match saga earlier that Summer.Meath lost the Final to Down.Roscommon haven't been back in an All -Ireland semi final since 1991.
