International Rules

(Oldest Posts First)

I know many feel the need to scrap this series but personally I think its a great opportunity for the players to experience the trip and also the playing of the sport. After the revealing of the team today [email protected] came to notice that Michael Murphy and Conor McManus may come to a difficult obstacle which they will have to choose between a trip to Australia or their clubs Ulster duties. Murphy has a county final this weekend and if they win they are due to play in ulster the following Sunday the 9th. Whereas McManus has club duties this weekend but if they are to win he will be playing again on the 16th in the Ulster semi final. Maybe these games will be changed due to the international series but if not they have a difficult decision ahead. Anyone know the definite on this. It may effect others throughout the country but they are just the 2 I noticed.

No definitive rule on this, lasy year Michael Murphy played with his club in county final day after playing for Ireland, i can remember at least 2 or 3 others that dropped out of squad because of this same problem (i think it was one or two of the Dublin lads who didnt play at all last year)

Yeah but that game was in Ireland. Really hard to know what could happen.. If club duties call I can't see any of the two leaving their clubs struggling. Be interesting to see what the outcome is after this weekend. Clontibret would struggle without mcmanus and Glenswilly would struggle without Murphy.. So either way the clubs will need them

The ulster council will accommodate the players like in previous year when Murphy played in australia and then came home and lost to Latton in the Ulster club.

Its a complete waste of time to travel 20 hours + to play one game of Rugby/Gaelic football........That game died years ago, last year proved that after the team Austraila sent over...hopeless.

Conor would be better of play for his Club and if and when their run ends put his feet up until mid January!

The game will be reinvented this year. The Australians have picked a very strong team thus year with 9 all Australians from the 2014 season and very other member of the panel was an all Australian before. Its in their pre season schedule so they can get the best players available. Edpect Australia to win this year.

Agree Hardcore it seems as if mcmanus has been on the go for a solid year. He probably does deserve a break and i suppose when clontibrets run does come to an end he would be safer throwing up the feet for a few months and enjoy himself instead of flying to australia for one game. Can see the Ulster council moving games though to suit as Michael Murphy is the captain and it would look bad if he dropped his club for the series but it would also look bad if he dropped the series and him the captain. So the next week will tell the tale to as what will happen.

My god it was McManus's choice to go to trials he wants to play for Ireland he wants to go to Australia. He got selected and the gaa should accommodate any player who wishes to represent his country and get a trip to Australia. With Conor's busy schedule with club and county when would he get a chance to go to Australia. I dunno why people begrudge him for wanting to play.

Agree shaggy 100% who would not want to go and train and live like a professional for 2/3 weeks , both lads are fully entitled and deserved of the accolade , on a side note will this affect senior league semi finals as both players clubs still involved in them also ??

I totally agree Shaggy the gaa should accommadate for these players. I know it was their choice and they want to go on the trip but with fixtures and all already made changing them might not just be as easy as it seems. But hopefully we get to see both players and the others play their international rules and to represent their clubs.

2nd November clontibret vs St Galls
9th November Clontibret vs Scotstown clontibret
16th November Ulster club semi final
22th Ireland vs Australia
30th Ulster club final
6th December League semi Final
13th Decemeber league Final.

This would mean no clash of fixtures am sure Conor would get his break when Clontibret's season finishes until the start of the league. Its a busy schedule but sure any player in the Monaghan would love to have that dilemma.

There is no fixture clash in ulster. So i dunno why it is being brought up. Only in the went of draws would there be a problem.

the players are dead right taking this holiday its not often they get anything back from the GAA so good luck to them. but for monaghans sake id much perfer not to see monaghans 2 best players going to play this. simple reason is its a farce of a game pure rubbish that was finished long long ago.

The Team are flying to Australia on the 12th. SO therefore there would be a clash. I agree they should take all they can get off the GAA as they deserve it.

Yes the team are flying on the 12th but in previous years players have flown at a later date than the rest of the panel due to club commitments I hope this is the same and Clontibret get a win on Sunday.
