this is a proud day and shows that ireland has finally grown up- if anyone needed any confirmation that this visit is needed you just needed to watch the sinn fein / ira display on the frontline last night. we got all the confirmation we needed that these people are a minority- its great the people just simply dont listen to this nonsense anymore

Talking to a friend in Dublin this morning. She said the large amount of brown nosing and fawning worshipping over the English royal family in the 26 counties is just plain embarrassing. The outpouring of Southern Irish feigning over the royal wedding and and now Lizzie's visit is nauseating and definately a severe case of Stockholm syndrome. The friend works in Dublin and said she never even seen the same amount of bootlicking amongst Northern Unionists as she has seen in the South and that her workmates are all drooling over the TV in work at Lizzie. You couldn't make this up, England treats Ireland like slaves for 8 centuries and now many there would voluntary act as human tables for their royals to put their boots on??? Get off your knees West Brits and stand up for yourselves.

I'm in Dublin and most people I talk to about it are completely indifferent. At the weekend somebody asked me what was I gonna get up to for the week and I hadn't a clue what he was talking about, but he meant the visit. Everything seems to be going along exactly how it usually does save for some bus detours.

I certainly have not seen one person in any way interested or excited about the visit, although I did pretend to be interested to the table-thumping armchair crank in the office just to give him what he wanted.

it must kill you that we have more afinity with the royals than we do with republicans. what you mention above is democracy at work just like the wedding the irish people have a great interest in the royals, you are the minority and live in the past the irish people have moved on you can do likewise or remain a bitter man its 100% your choice- but what is for certain is that the irish people have absolutely no interest in the republican nonsense that are embarassment to this country.

Not many people i have met or spoken to have mentioned the visit at all. It is right and proper to just let them all get on with it as it won't make a bit of difference to many and might help to repair some of the damage done over the centuries. The English in general are not bad people and i worked over there during the Troubles without any of them slagging me for being Irish. Sure most of the lads who will be complaining will be glues to the box when "their" team is playing soccer "

Most Irish people like the English and vice-versa. I'd imagine once they bugger off out of the 6 counties past grievances will disappear almost overnight, until then people will protest. I was watching the channel 4 news this evening and I have to say that it was very encouraging the way those being interviewed were warm and receptive towards the queen,this surely has to bode well for future relations between the two countries.

Ive skipped down to post on this thread without reading wahat im sure is a slagging match between the usual suspects. I only got brief updates of what happened during the day and i saw most of the 6.01 news this evening.

I thought the irish defence forces done a terrific job, as did our president, taoiseach and others. the aras looked and fantastic, as did trinity etc.....the millions who will see these pictures can only be a good thing for ireland and our effort to attract business and tourism.

Ive never been a fan of the monrach and that wont change but if was good to see her lay a wreeth and bow at the garden of rememberence. i think we are all mature enough now to move on i believe we will have a united ireland when the majority of the people of the north decide its in their best interests.

NOTHING will ever be achieved by bombs, tanks and guns. The sight of yobs rioting down dorset street is not surprising as these guys only look for an occasion to stand up against law and order.
