Lancashire 2013

Interesting championship draw last night. Looks like Peters will cruise through group 1, more than likely with Wolfe Tones. Group 2 on the other hand looks very difficult to call, possibly Mitchells and Oisins going by form so far this year?

Group 1
St. Lawrences
St. Peters
Wolfe Tones

Group 2
John Mitchells
St. Brendans

Great draw for the neutral.
Mitchels and Peters kept apart. A very competetive group two which should give us a couple of cracking games. A probable winner takes all group game between Tones and Lawrences. Roll on September!

St Peters retain Pennine League title yesterday! They look strong again this year and were missing key players in yesterdays game! Oisins will be a force to be reckoned with come the start of championship! A good game to watch

Great game between St Peters v St Brendans in the game that has been dubbed the battle of Hough End in the Senior League. Brendans went into game flying and were racking up points until Peter got a goal to reduce deficit. However Brendans were still looking the most impressive and looked to be on course to win game as they were 4pts up with 10mins to play! In a dramatic turn of events Peters went on to dig deep and produce an outstanding last 5 mins which resulted in scoring 5 unreplied points to win game by 1pt. This was a great advertisment for football in lancashire where Peters are County and Club All Britain Champions.

How many out of those two teams would be representing Lancashire? Sounds like a sporting affair by all accounts, with bragging rights for Peters continuing

id say probabily 8-9 from Peters, 3-4 from Brendans, 6-7 Mitchels, 2-3 Oisins, 1-2 Lawrences. Not seen enough of Wolfetones games to see what players they have. Last year was nearly all Peters and Mitchells bar 2-3.

All very quiet on here, anyone know when the Championship starts?

I know the county team play Cork in a few weeks, have they any chance of winning?

Think the league semi finals are played this weekend, anyone know where the games are to be played?

Who won the senior league yesterday?

St Brenda's Edged a bizarre game where Mitchell's were 9 points up at half time and Brendan's came back in the second half to win by 2. That's the last of the senior league games now and its championship time.

Where does everybody see the tittle ending up this year? who are the front runners for championship? anyone flying under the radar this year?

Winner of the Championship will come from St. Peter's Side of the draw, The other group seems like the group of death and will all be taking lumps out of each other, whilst the other group may feel 'fresher'. Good luck to the six teams involved, it will be a great advertisment for the game in Lancashire. Hopefully some new sponsors and facilities can be developed and a fresh push taken by all.

And so it begins, the Lancashire Senior Championship. Who will be victors, who will cause a upset, who's name will be added to the come the final whistle of competition.

St Lawrences v St Peters 5.00pm Throw in Turn Moss
John Mitchells v Oisins Don't know what time or where

St. Peters, defending Lancashire Senior Champions and All Britain Club Champions. After winning the All Britain Club Championship for the 3rd time, this makes them the most successful club in Britain. They have 10-12 lads that represent the Lancashire County team. They will be a lot of peoples favorites to retain title and have the Pennine League title to there names this year. Should comfortably top Group 1.
Star Man - Dessie O Malley. Quick, strong, deadly with either foot and can score from out of nothing. Turns defenders inside out
Lancashire Senior Football Champions:
(11) 2012, 2010, 2005, 2004,2001,2000,1997, 1995, 1993, 1992, 1987

John Mitchells, runners up last year. They have experience throughout the squad, however some would say they are a aging team. They too make up the bulk of the Lancashire County team. In a tough group but i fancy them to top group and will look to finish year with silverware following the loss in the Lancashire Senior League
Star Man - Micheal Malloy. Deceivingly strong Deadly with the left and can score from almost anywhere on pitch. One of most experienced players on team
Lancashire Senior Football Champions:
2011,2009,2008,2007 (4)

St. Brendans, the inform team this year coming off the back of the dramatic win in the Senior League Final. A lot of home grown players in squad and have had 5-6 players that represented Lancashire County this year. Most successful team when it comes to the Senior Championship with 19 titles, however a bit like Liverpool they were strong in the 80's but they have not won title since 1996. Will this current crop of lads break the hoodoo.
Star Man - Steven Sands. Tall and good in air. Deadly from frees also can spot a pass to set up plays
Lancashire Senior Football Champions:
1964: 1966: 1968: 1970: 1971: 1972: 1976: 1978: 1879: 1980: 1983: 1984: 1985: 1986: 1988: 1989: 1990: 1991: 1996: (19)

Oisins, sprung a few surprise results early this year beating John Michells and St Peters twice. Had 1 player represent Lancashire County. Narrowly missed out making the Senior League Final. Hard to call as they can play really good football or press the self destruct button. In a tough group and the game between them and St. Brendans will be a final in itself. Look forward to that game.
Star Man - Shane McGahan. Hard solid battler of a midfielder thats the engine of team. Does the dirty graft that other shirk. Plays box to box
Lancashire Senior Football Champions:
1951, 1953, 1957, 1959, 1969, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1994, 2002, 2006 (12)

St Lawrences, should be other team that progresses out of Group 1. Have a good solid base of lads that have been there for a number of years. Might not have enough to progress from Semi finals
Star Man - Shane Goldrick. Fit as a fiddle and can run all day. Definitely engine of team, keeps things ticking. Deadly accurate with passing
Lancashire Senior Football Champions:
2003, 1998 (2)

Wolfetones, Only started playing senior football since 2012. Which is a great achievement since only starting in 2010. May find it difficult to get out of group but will take the experience to kick on.
Star Man - Jerome Doyle. Good kicker makes things happen

St Brendan's v John Mitchell's is at Hough End at 1pm on Sunday.

It should be the best game of the group stages.
