Dubs on the road?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There's no other stadium even close to holding 82,300

Until one exists

All major Dublin games should be in Croke Park

It's important that we highlight our sports while we can and show our sports

Not intentionally sabotage major events to keep a few sour notes happy

it is more so for the early rounds of the provincial championships rather than the later stages of the All Ireland series so they wouldn't need somewhere to hold an 82,000 capacity realistically.

Being a realistic Meath man though rather than just jumping on the bandwagon, in all honesty moving the dubs out of Croke Park isn't going to make a difference with regards to the result. They could move them to any other stadium in the country but the result won't get anywhere close to changing until the other teams in Leinster get their own houses in order.

Too many people are on the anti-dublin bandwagon the last number of years and calling for funding to be cut, dublin to be split in two etc etc. None of this matters at the moment, the other teams in Leinster need to get their own house in order and look at underage structures witin their own counties, appointing strength and conditioning coaches etc as similar steps to the model Dublin have set in place and followed over the last number of years. These are the baby steps that need to be put in place and followed rigidly if these counties have any hope or ambition to be at the same level as the top teams in the country within the next 5-10 years.

I dont mind who plays where as long as there is a pitch. But if i was a dubs fan id love the chance to see some other grounds. Sure there was only 48k at the final last year so it would be good to have the quarters and possibly semi in different spots. Its part of the GAA (for me) taking road trips and visiting new places and meeting new people

1799333 Interesting to see if so many dub fans would be as supportive of an AI semi final away from home, instead of an exhibition game that doubles up as a weekend jolly away

Confirmed your just never happy .Let me let you in on a little secret if they played it on the moon an All Ireland Semi we would fill the Dark side of that too and beat you while were at it .
Lads come on here saying there up for a road trip , consistent on everything that's allways been said , we play were we are told and happy to do it . Your allways on just to sour things just a tad , Id say your great crack 22.30 on a Friday night in the local after work .

No actually I was just pointing out that you are a bit tight henry..

Yeah probably, but if i want to enjoy cold cans on the train ride from Dublin to Ballybeag it doesnt make sense for me to buy them anywhere else but Dublin.
Otherwise itll be an extra two journeys, costing me about 30 euro on the train if i avail of their web special offers. I can get 30 cans for that.

Nowlan Park Dimensions = 145 x 88m

Croke Park Dimensions = 144.5m x 88m

Well it's pretty much the exact same size as CP.. in fact a tad bit bigger

One of the points made about Dublin playing in Croke Park is that the large pitch suits them and this is unfair

Well they'll soon be playing on a slightly bigger one if the idea goes ahead

One of the points made about Dublin playing in Croke Park is the large Dublin support benefiting the team

We'll still have the larger support in Nowlan Park and it's all relative - less Dublin fans in NP means less opposition supporters

So it'll basically be the same ratio

So really all this will be is a bit of a jolly.. and a 10+ point hiding

Because it wont act as any sort of disadvantage

I'd say Laois / Wicklow would prefer a hiding in Croke Park

At least they are getting the match experience in Croke Park

I think this thread is getting away from the original point. It's not unreasonable to expect Dublin to be away from Croke Park for a first round game but that's really all. I've been to a couple of double headers in Croker over the last few years where Dublin were there too and the attendance was around the 30,000 mark so putting them as s single game in 24,000 capacity Nowlan Park should be easily doable. After that then definitely Croke Park is the only option because you are into Leinster semis and the crowd will increase.

There should be a home and away arrangement between Dublin and all other leinster counties as there currently is between most counties in leinster. Dublins home games should be in parnell park, the leinster final should be in croke park.. Dublin would still win but they would definitely be closer games. I am sure a lot of dublin fans would enjoy the days out around the grounds...

Cans of Harp don't count.

Well said Kildare man.

If Dublin going forward are to remain in leinster I'd suggest the current idea of seeding them in the semi or final be changed.

That idea would mean no quarter final game at all so obviously they are not worried about losing some money at the gate.

My idea would be to seed them in round 1 but they must play the round 1 and quarter final matches away.

They will be sold out and people will miss out but it's 2 matches instead of none and they will be 2 good away trips that will boost local economies and raise the profile of football around leinster.

So for example Dublin could play laois in round 1 down in portlaoise and then head off down to Wexford Park for the quarter final.

Their 3Rd Match would be back in croker for the semi final against meath for example and then the final against Kildare. That sounds a lot better than 3 matches in croker like every other year.

Will be a double header with Meath v Louth in croker I reckon

Louth still have to play Carlow first. I reckon if it does happen to be Louth and Meath it will be a double header along with Westmeath against Offaly/Longford.

Ollie it will be Louth v Meath I reckon
And then they are left with a venue headache to play that one.
Hardly drag them both to portlaoise or tullamore
When they have a ready made double header in croker that can easily cater for a possible
Meath v Louth
Dublin v laois
Seen as they winners will meet at semi final stage.

Cheers Croigorm,

Hopefully a trip to Nowlan Park, nice ground and lovely city for a day/night trip but if we end up playing in O'Moore would also be a very good trip down to Portlaois.

Dublin playing away from Croke park gives one of the 2nd tier teams a chance to do what Japan did.

it will be great for the opposition fans, don't have to spend as much as if they were travelling to Dublin

I am sure most Dub fans would love to hit the road on championship day. What with sat nav's these days there should be no issues ;)

Ah yew tree , ye do realise about 3,000 of us travel to away league games every year sometimes more of us , we are not bad at finding our way ;)
I would love Nowlan park for first Leinster game . Although the irony of Kilkenny of all counties getting all the money in the pubs from the Dub fans.
