Kildare v Dublin

kildare dont deserve equal investment to the dubs..the dubs deserve investment based on their population..similar to what kildare do...kildare should just be getting better then they are getting currently...kildare have had much larger budgets then most counties in kildare so the likes of meath and kildare have no reason to complain about dublin..its the counties like westmeath longford carlow and so on who are the ones that are completely up against it when it comes to the dubs

Hill horse racing is massive in Kildare but football is number 1 , like you honestly think more kids in Kildare are out horse riding than playing Football? Not a chance, Gaelic Football is huge in Kildare and will always be number 1.

Gaelic football is by far the biggest sport in Kildare. Rugby exists but on a small scale. There are about 6 rugby clubs in the entire county compared to about 55 gaa clubs. Socccer is big in Leixlip and Celbridge but if Im being honest, both of these towns are full of dubs who have little interest in gaa never mind Kildare gaa. A few years ago Kildare County entered into the league of Ireland and struggled to get more than 150 people at the games so went bust a few years later.
I was talking to a friend of mine from meath recently about the downfall of meath gaa. he blames the rise in popularity of soccer and rugby for the demise of gaa within the county. he told me that there are FIVE soccer clubs in Navan alone? Can any meath posters confirm this? That seems a huge number

I don't know that Horse racing is more popular than football in Kildare. The reason I say this is that there is a huge overlap between the two sports. Most GAA people that I know would also be supporters of Horseracing. I don't know anyone that supports one but not the other. I'm sure that they are such people but in my experience they would be a small minority.

oh im not saying you have to support one or the other
sure im a big supporter of both
but id go to a dublin match ahead of a race meeting
but if you think of sport and kildare
horse racing is the first place you would start

how is horse racing bigger than football in kildare?..the tracks happen to be in the county but how many people are actually heavily involved in horse racing compared to the gaa?...alot people are there for the day out and so on....there is no need to try and make excuses for kildare..they are a county with a big population and a huge interest in football..they should be doing a lot better then they are

not making excuses for them
i just feel there not as bad as people make out
they have come close plenty of times and maybe abig win is the breakthorugh they need
I obviously dont want to see that this sunday though against us.
the curragh, punchestown they get great crowds, the national stud farm is in kildare
if you think of sport and kildare
horse racing comes to mind

A good way to even things up on Sunday, let the Kildare team ride horses.

Yes clondalkindub, you have hit the nail on the head there as regards the participation. Anyway bacause of its nature as a professional sport and it not being a team sport apart from amateur eventing and so on, very few make it or will have the opportunity to become jockies. As I said earlier there is a huge overlap between the sports in terms of supporting but without doubt football is the bigger sport by a long margin. Of course additionally it's nort just Kildare people who go to the race meetings as people travel from all over the country to attend race meetings.
Just in terms of participation the county board released figures last year which revealed that outside of Dublin and Cork, Kildare was largest county in terms of the number of club games played at all levels. I think the figure was around 4,000 in a season.

Can we please put an end to the notion that success depends on a large population. How do you explain Kilkenny in hurling?
It's all down to tradition and expert coaching from a very young age. Dublin do have an advantage in the terms of the amount of quality coaches they have and with their current high profile it will keep the young players coming through.
For the record much of Kildare population is based in the satellite towns of Maynooth, Celbridge and Leixlip. They have won one county title in the last 50 years!

Its all about structure and while Kildare have been quite successful at underage it takes time to come through also it doesn't always translate into a senior success, look id give Kildare as good a chance as most this weekend, its akin to Tyrone coming to croke park this year theyd more than likely get hockeyed there's a huge gap developed between the top tier and the rest. Even in the top teir the likes of Kerry mayo and Donegal are hoping for a dubs off day. Look at the way they humiliation of Monaghan last year. Its all good slagging Leinster but no other province has Dublin to contend with. And if you did it would be same story.

We need to keep it tight in the first half to avoid a massacre, however I do believe whatever the score is at half time, Dublin will come out in the second half and blitz us. That's the harsh reality. If Kildare win I think a week long drinking session is in order!!

if Kildare can somehow stop Dublin scoring goals they have half a chance. Easier said than done though. They also have to somehow limit the running game of Michael Darragh MacAuley..all 6 ft 3 of him. He's very fond of scoring goals.

I think we will have too much for Kildare on Sunday to be honbest. There have been several shocks in the football but I can't see it hapening, I think Dublin will have too much firepower for Kildare and win by 10 points.

Don't forget people, at the 16th minute during Sunday's game we're going to have a one minute applause in memory of the two Harris lads and those poor young people who died tragically in California.

Kildare will run Dublin a bit closer than people think ...They were impressive against Laois who ain't a bad side despite the freak result against Antrim.

A lot of stories going around that Laois lads didn't really want to win the game that they knew manager was gone and that some of them have already flown out on holidays!

Dublin will win but I imagine it will be along the scoreline of Dublin 3-17 Kildare 1-15
