Wouldn't disagree with that MartinGerard.
Very good post there Murof outlining the situation as it is in Kildare at the moment.

Lilywhite as a county with over 200 thousand people you have 3 leinsters in 78 years. A disgraceful return for a county of your size

they may have 200 thousand people but what does that matter
you only 30 people to form a panel and work with them from there
you could have as many as you want living somewhere but if the other team has better players
the population cant do a whole lot for you

It's an absolute disgrace that a mad footballing county the size of Kildare is doing so bad at Gaelic Football, something so terribly wrong in that county 3 Leinsters shocking.

1741487 No buzz around Kildare, Laois or Carlow at all, and this the week leading up to a Leinster semi final. All the young lads and girls going around in their rugby shirts looking forward to the world cup. Bertie's and the GAA millions of Euro, invested into Dublin GAA have killed Gaelic football in Leinster.

Jesus wept,still whinging!!

True, we saw how well 2 Kildare lads worked for Cork in 89-90 so we gave it a go ourselves. Worked out quite well for us too and they all stayed around afterwards and did great work as coaches.
Kildare lost 4 Leinster finals in the 70's, 2 to a great Offaly side and 2 to a brilliant Dublin side. We also ran into a very good Dublin team in the early 90's.
Definitely should have won more than 3 but a lot of the time we had very poor teams who were badly managed. A big population guarentees nothing, very few players on the team from the big towns like Newbridge, Kilcock, Maynooth and Celbridge. The interest just is not there.

well said martingerard...its an embarressing return in terms of success....a county of that size should be competing regularly at the top table as should meath....look to ulster where you see teams making the best of themselves despite various issues although it seems to matter a lot more to them up there and they take there football a lot more seriously...if only counties in leinster did the same then leinster would be much improved...especially meath and kildare

If you want to bring up the topic of players playing with counties other than their own native counties, don't forget to mention the two All-Irelands that Cork won with Kildare players Larry Tomkins and Shea Fahy on the team.

producing athletes instead of top quality forwards is also a major issue....when you compare some of the forwards kildare have had to much smaller counties like westmeath offaly and even longford....likes of dessie dolan paul barden niall mcnamee and even denis glennon have been superior to much of what kildare has had to offer

but they have been at the top table
they made the quarter finals 5 times in the last 8 years
and came very close to beaten dublin in 2009 and 2011
they came within a kick of a ball of making the all ireland final in 2010
they were narrowly denied by donegal in 2011
its only been really 2013 and 2014 that they didnt perform

YOU ARE SO NEGATIVE
CUT THE CRAP WITH HOME ADVANTAGE, ITS A FIELD OF GRASS PERIOD, 15 V 15.
KILDARE LADS WANT TO PLAY HERE, NOT IN NEWSBRIDGE

KILDARE WILL WIN THIS , WIN LEINSTER BUT DUBLIN WILL WIN THE ALL IRELAND.
IF LAOIS WERE PLAYING ON SUNDAY WE WOULD BATE DUBLIN TOO

Looking forward to this one, could be a very good game. While predicting a Dublin win is simplistic, I think that Kildare will really put it up to them providing they don't concede early goals (they have some good defenders at the moment so..). I have a soft spot for Kildare and think that they are underrated at the moment. They beat Down in Newry and should have beaten Monaghan in normal time last year. This year they have regrouped well enough after a poor league run and should improve for the Laois games. Can't understand the negativity around Jason Ryan, they should be glad they have him, there are not that many managers around the country better than him, he needs a bit of time. Anyway I think Kildare should beat the handicap betting of +11

very little success though hill...outside of under mcgeeney and micko they have been very poor for a lot of the time..there is no excuse for that..football is the main sport in kildare...they shouldnt be in a situation where the dubs are 15-20 points superior to them..the same goes for meath...with a population that size and considering they arent affected by emigration on anywhere near the same level as other counties then its hard to understand why there is such a lack of success...in those mcgeeney years at the end of the day how many top sides did they beat?..mcgeeney did great with them but the talent simply wasnt there to get them over the line

Fair play to Kildare in their drubbing of Laois. The second half was quite impressive. They are a decent team.Unfortunately being a decent team is not of much use coming up to Croke Park on Sunday.I can see Dublin leading by 7+ at the break, and stretching that lead in the second half.Savage competition for places will ensure Dublin dont take their foot off the gas. With the huge amount of goal chances we create in each game,it nearly feels disappointing if we dont convert a minimum of three.Hoping for a good 40000 + crowd for this attractive double header.Dublin by minimum 10,and possibly 15-20 points.Set us up nicely to give the royals a final drubbing.Cant see them losing to Westmeath.

football is not the main sport in kildare
horse racing id say is definatly the main sport
with the curragh and punchestown the two championship tracks in the country for flat and jumps
you also have naas racecourse(which I prefer from the three)

I don't know that Horse racing is more popular than football in Kildare. The reason I say this is that there is a huge overlap between the two sports. Most GAA people that I know would also be supporters of Horseracing. I don't know anyone that supports one but not the other. I'm sure that they are such people but in my experience they would be a small minority.

Yeah and rugby and soccer would be big in Kildare too. Then you have a large chunk of the population who are not Kildare people, be it dubs, foreign nationals or other county people living in Kildare and commuting to Dublin.

Anyway like meath they could be doing better but the fact of the matter is if Kildare got equal investment to what Dublin got they would be doing better and would actually have a better chance of competing this weekend.

I forgot to add to my post that I know several GAA people who are involved in racing syndicates. For the non horse racing people that is people who have a share in a horse.

how is horse racing bigger than football in kildare?..the tracks happen to be in the county but how many people are actually heavily involved in horse racing compared to the gaa?...alot people are there for the day out and so on....there is no need to try and make excuses for kildare..they are a county with a big population and a huge interest in football..they should be doing a lot better then they are
