1741358 I can see my day going a bit like this:
I will go down for the minor match, watch that and the Westmeath v Meath match intently and then probably head to the bar after about 10/15 mins of the senior game and watch the hammering sipping on a pint.
That is being realistic, I hope it doesn't work out that way. And I hope Kildare put it up to Dublin but I just can't see it. It was a bit of a freak result against Laois and Laois should have gotten over the line in the first game.
If Dublin win by less than the handicap that the bookies suggest then management will not be happy

Really?? You would rather watch YOUR team on the TV rather than live in the stadium?? Doesn't say much for you as a supporter really. Great that you are going to go in for the minor game but to state that you would rather drink pints than watch your team is crazy. Win lose or Draw you should watch your team until the final whistle with no excuses. Very surprised that someone who claims to be a "supporter" would make a statement like that. Shame on you

chriscart580 - Shame on me, that's fine. I have been going to Dublin games since the age of 5 barely missing any. Now I will be up in the fancy seats in the Premium and watching drinking a pint from the window, if the game gets going and its close I will be straight back out to my seat but I just can't see anyone in Leinster making a game of it against Dublin this year.

Thats fair enough. I have been up there plenty of times myself but i wouldn't be one for watching the game from inside the window cause to me that defeats the purpose of going to the game. But each to their own. Enjoy the pints

No buzz around Kildare, Laois or Carlow at all, and this the week leading up to a Leinster semi final. All the young lads and girls going around in their rugby shirts looking forward to the world cup. Bertie's and the GAA millions of Euro, invested into Dublin GAA have killed Gaelic football in Leinster.

There isn't the same class issue associated with rugby in Kildare, as there is in Dublin.

But anyway, Talk in Kildare is we are going to play uber defensive, I can see Dublin using this game and the Leinster final to try out systems and plans for the bigger games ahead.

would you rather the game be tight and we loose?
or win like the last time we played kildare in 2013 playing excellent football?
dont get some on here whinging that we are winning games well
I for one enjoy seeing dublin play great football
I dont go to watch the game from a neutral or the oppositions point of view
I go as a dublin supporter to watch dublin

if kildare go very defensive would be a bit strange
there main problem as long as I have ever seen a kildare team
was scoring, they always kick too many wides
well the last day against there near neighbours they clocked up their biggest tally in leinster football
in over 40 years kicking 3-18
it would be somewhat ironic if they were to then go try play defensive after achieving that

Where outside of the Premium section can you sip on a pint and watch the game?

Sportsfan,

If you're on the HIll you can sip on a pint at the bar just after you enter through the turnstiles and catch the game on the screen beside the bar. Not a great pint of Guinness from those horrible plastic glasses mind.

tirawleybaron

AthClaith is correct. Kildare waste thousands on certain things admin wont put up and pumping money into the senior team at the expense of their underage and clubs. Emigration in Kildare is not a big issue.
To challenge Dublin, you need to focus on the underage teams first. Get them used to beating Dublin and lose the fear of the blue jersey.

Completely disagree there tirawleybaron. Kildare haven't concentrated on the senior team at the expense of the Underage. As recently as 2013 we won Leinster U16 Minor and U21 championships. Some of the U21's will be playing on Sunday and more will be moving up to senior in the coming years. Most of these players have been on winning teams against Dublin in leagure and championship. So the Dublin jersey holds no fear for these young players. In relation to the clubs v county issue I would say that it is no different in Kildare than any other county and in some respects it is better in Kildare. One example is the Kildare SFL that is run off on time every year with the fixtures set out in advance. The league begins in March every year and is finished by late July and never as in other counties does it finish in October, November or even December after the Championship is completed.

Focus on the league and stay in Div 1 for a few years and get used to playing a consistant high standard in every match. Then Kildare can challenge Dublin on a regular basis. Hanging around in Div 2/3 and hoping for a big performance once a year just wont do it.
I very much agree with what you say above tirawleybaron.Kildare like any other team that has ambitions of winning an All Ireland must be regularly playing against the top teams in Division. Although your own county Mayo have yet to win one they are serious contenders every year because they are so long in Division 1

hill16no1man - Don't get me wrong, I am not moaning about Dublin winning. I am not moaning about anything to be honest. No I do not want a tight game and for the Dubs to lose, but yes I want a tight game. Mainly because it might give us a shot in the arm that we didn't get last year. I know we were beaten by our own naivety last year but the lack of a challenge didn't help in my opinion.
I too go to matches as a Dublin supporter and will always want them to win, but personally I don't get too much enjoyment in the hidings like Longford the last day. I know some really do.

Nothing unusual about a team losing support when they are doing badly. Supporters like to see their team competing well and providing hope. Kildare have not done either of those in the last 2 years. People are not exactly queuing overnight to buy tickets to see the Irish soccer team at the moment are they?
We competed well under McGeeney but had far better players then. In the last 2 years we have lost Doyle, Earley, and Foley who were All Stars and another one Peter Kelly is out injured. Other fine players like McGrillen, Kavanagh, Sweeney and O'Flaherty are also gone. Some of the best U21 players we have had are playing other sports in Australia and England. Some of them may come back but at the moment its easy to see why we cant compete with Dublin.
It's true we dont have the same emmigration problems like those on the Atlantic coastline but that also means we dont have the diaspora to banlroll us as well. Look at the Roscommon bus and the recent fundraiser by Kerry in the states. Dont begrudge them that at all but it's difficult to get companies based in Kildare to invest in the team. Even in the good times with McGeeney and in the Celtic Tiger era we still had the same sponsor on board.
Our current problems are primarily a weak CB and a weak manager and a team of some very fine footballers but also a fair few ordinary ones.
None of the above is intended as making excuses but a fair appraisal of where we are and why Dublin will likely beat us very easily on Sunday. I will go but will probably enjoy the few pints before more than the match!

Lilywhite as a county with over 200 thousand people you have 3 leinsters in 78 years. A disgraceful return for a county of your size

that would be one expensive point of guinness
if you bought a ticket for 20 euro to go to the bar in the hill to watch the match
