Division One 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dont see a thread here specifically dealing with the top Division do Ill start the ball rolling.

Vital we get a good start but truth being told we'll struggle. Fancy Kerry and Cork to go well as most teams will be experimenting.

Looking foward to it now. Always nice to be playing the top teams.

Can't judge division one. Down (as usual) have been tipped to be relegated since we got into Division one and we ended up coming 4th in 2011 and 3rd in 2012... I imagine doing better without the genius Marty Clarke????!!! Imagine. Anyway, can see cork winning it, usually have a very strong league team

Dont think the likes of Dublin, Mayo and Donegal will take it too seriously. Will prob still do enough to stay u though.

Snuff the 'if onlys' belong to you after yesterday.

Snuff expect plenty of running into big yellow cushions.
Easy one really even if the top teams don't take it as seriously as the want to be top teams, kildare will be in div 2 by Easter along with meath, :)

Q. What makes you a top eight team,?
Well to start off you will have needed to profess to been top 3/4 team a couple of years earlier, and top five previous year, you will also need to have a penalty giving to you in dying seconds of game to actually progress to top flight in division, you will have to have been beaten out the gate of previous championship by a recently relegated team, then go onto beat a team with there best player playing for you, then scrape a undeserved victory off a division 4 team. Then get humiliated by a team not even at full pelt.

So there it is lads and lasses, how to become a self proclaimed top eight team. Lmao

Does anyone remember when a thread about a league division used to be mainly about that? And not another royaldunne waffles about Kildare thread....

Seems to be an utterly pointless thread since you have now won the O'Byrne cup and made it finally to the big time, the rest of us can just take the summer off so and enjoy the hurling. Have a feeling the whinging is going to start a lot earlier though this year.

You're right royaldunne. We're a moderate team. That doesn't say a lot for the other 75% of teams in the country who are not in the top division of the league and don't qualify for the quarter finals of the championship every summer, does it now ladeen?

For Kildare it will all depend on how much we experiment. If we are going to persist with the young lads, which I believe we should, it will be hard to stay up with only two games at home. If we send out a team full of regulars than we might stay up at the expense of either Tyrone or possibly even Donegal who I can't see making much of an impact in the league. Kerry and Dublin players will be all out to impress under their new managements. They will be strong. Mayo and Cork will be thereabouts. Tyrone always take the league quite seriously so they should be fairly safe. Down would probably have the weakest panel on paper along with ourselves.

Division 1 winners: Kerry
Runners up: Dublin
Semi Finals: Mayo, Cork

Relegation: Kildare, Down

If its a pointless thread why do you feel the need to comment?

My county are in Div One so surely Im entitled to start a thread about it. Jeez you are taking yesterday very bad altogether. Move on its only the O Byrne Cup.

What would you need to stay up? 5 or 6 points? It's not impossible for Kildare to stay up but we're obviously up against it. If we cause one upset (maybe next Saturday?) and take a few points against the teams that are likely to be hovering around the bottom with us I think we have a chance. The big thing is though (as our Meath friend likes to frequently remind us) we do keep coming up short when we meet Div 1 teams in the summer. Worst comes to worst at least we'll be a bit better prepared if we do manage to meet those teams come the championship.

Kildare supporters should be worried, near enough full strength team struggled to beat Dublin's 3rd team last night. I can't see where there going to get wins from in this really tough division. I think them and Down will be relegated and its a toss up to who wins it between Dublin Kerry Cork Donegal and Mayo.

Good thread...

Personally can see the dubs flirting with the reality of relegation.

Winners: Cork (seem to be specialists at this)
Runners Up (Donegal, will want to prove that they are not a flash in the pan and that there is a lot more to come)

Relegation Dublin / Kildare / Down

Dublin - I hope its not a case of chopping and changing could cost us dearly.
KIldare - New to this level, will give it a lash but will come up short.
Down - Weak enough panel.

Doublehop we'll find it hard to get 5 or 6 points. Hard to know where Donegal are at. Cant see us getting anything down in Cork. We'll need two points from those two games so heres hoping Donegal are only starting out. Good start is vital this year.

Keeping repeating something doesn't make it true.

Winners: Dublin-Massive talent at their disposal from last years U21 team. I would say Donegal but injuries are hampering them.
Runners up: Kerry-they'll be out to prove a point after a few people wrote them off for Sam.

Relegated: Down-Just havn't the men to compete in this division. Too small up front.
Kildare: Even with their new star corner forward (Will he cut it at this level? Hmm, interesting times ahead) they havn't the players. Struggled to beat Dublin's 2nd team last night.
