Save it for the summer Kildare / Meath lads

Shooting seasons started. Believe me when I say, this is just warming up.

Cant really see Gavin playing too many of the youngs lads. Might give 2/3 a start but thats about it. Cant see him sacrificing Div One football for that.

BTW of whats i've seen over the last couple of years I'd reckon Costello will turn out a better player than Kilkenny. He could have a good year.

Gonna call Cork, Kerry, Tyrone and Dublin as semi-finalists.

Jinxie ya still have a bee in your bonnet over my views before new manager appointment?,
Think the response you got from the kildare lads would suggest they don't have much time for your points.

Anyway if you read my post, it was clearly my opinion, when is it a crime not to agree with kildare, I never have nor will I ever agree with the hype around kildare, the havr won nothing yet when it is said they will be im relegation fight by a meath man it's a disgrace, clondalkin and many others stated on hear that kildare had nearly full strength team last night, even kildare posters admitted they had stronger line up than dublin,? If you got a problem with that then take it up with them by all means, but eh leave me out of it, cause im sure the next thing that will be thrown at you is that you were one who started "transfer marker ' thread.
You know they don't listen to opposing views

Dublin had probably about 5 regulars starting last night; Cluxton, Brennan, Bastick, Connolly and Brogan who are all top class players on their day. Kildare on the other hand had about 8 now neither team was at full strenght but Kildare probably had a bit more experience. Now RD any person that follows football knows that Kildare had the better team on the day but that was not close to Kildares strongest starting 15. I'd forget about Kildare and the Dubs for the time being and focus on division 3.

Now back to the matter in hand
Cork have won the league for the last 3 years and I don't think it means much to them anymore, Dublin will want to make up for yesterday and Kerry will want to continue their winning streak. If Kildare catch Donegal cold the next day it might spell danger for Jimmy's boys ahead and Kildare will push on. Down are probably the weakest team in the division and will drop more than likely, Tyrone have the Mickey Harte factor but will look to just stay up he's not going to risk players picking up injuries. As for Mayo its hard to tell what their plans are for the league.

Semi Finalists: Dublin, Kerry, Cork and Kildare/Donegal
Finalists: Kerry, Dublin
Winners: Dublin

To Drop:Down, Donegal/Kildare

I am looking forward to the league opener against the Dubs on Saturday , however, it is not a massive game. It is very hard to predict who will win the league this year. Cork lost three games last year and still won it. We, or anybody, could do the same this year. There is no need for semi-finals in my opinion. If there are no semis, the round robin games become more important.

Strange to see some Kildare posters getting offended by the factual statement that the team Kildare finished with is far closer to their team come summer time.
Certainly when compared to Dublins. Thats pretty clear I would have thought?
I mean did you see what team Dublin finished with? Not that I think it was a bad thing, Jim needs to be looking at players.
No better game to give lads a look, we could have easily won last night. Very encouraging perfomances from lads that are there to compete against "House hold" names for places. Thats more important than winning the O'Byrne cup. We need competitive training sessions where no one feels safe.

The winners of the All Ireland will (in my opinion) come from a team that builds momentum in the league. Last year being an exception , Alot of the previous winners have come from allianz league winners in division 1 or a team who contested the final at least. I would expect Dublin to take it seriously and If we are not contesting the league semi finals i will be concerned going into the Summer.

This thread is about the Division One 2013, anything off topic will be deleted from now on. Please use the O'Byrne cup final thread to talk about last nights game, teams etc. Please keep to the topic at hand and have a proper discussion open to all posters of course about division one. Thank you.

As has been stated kildare struggled to beat dublin 2nd/3rd team last night, while they fielded a near full strength team

Name the forwards who you would pick ahead of Brogan and McManamon in the first and second choice Dublin teams so?

And what two or four midfielders would you pick ahead of Bastick and McAuley?

clondalkin and many others stated on hear that kildare had nearly full strength team last night, even kildare posters admitted they had stronger line up than dublin,?

There's a big difference between people saying we were nearly full strength last night, and saying we had a stronger team than Dublin.

If we were nearly full strength then we'd have played Morgan O'Flaherty, Daryl Flynn, Leper, Alan Smith at some stage, and Hugh Lynch would have played more than three minutes. Likewise Conway, Seanie, O'Connor, Paidi O'Neill and Eoin Doyle would have either started or come on a lot earlier than the did.

I definitely think we finished with a more experienced team than Dublin. But a near full strength team? No chance.

It is a fact that Kildare had all there big guns out last night except the wing forward whose name escapes me right now?

Good lad.

Our top scorer last year, our most important player, and our first choice midfield pairing, those four aren't big guns then are they?

I said at one stage or another they had all there big guns on the pitch , Sorry I left out Flynn and Smith wow 2 players other than that they were all playing. Leper was the wing forward I couldn't think of.

Thank you admin,
Been told that we cannot have a opinion on a league comp regardless of what division its in is a disgrace, and im in particularly disappointed that one such remark came from a so called "aristocrat " county, I'll wager I've paid into a hell of alot more games than most from the kingdom, im entitled to my opinion and will post it as I see fit, since when has division one became a. Sole property of the eight teams in it, does this mean that no other county need comment on the provincial championship unless their from that county,? What will that do to the Kerry supporters who post continuesly on Dublin and Tyrone?
Anyway admin thanks for that

I fancy kildare to beat donegal next week, kildare will want it far more. i dont think we'll see Niall kelly johnny byrne, daniel flynn and co feature in the league as I believe McGeeney has told them to concentrate on bringing a under 21 leinster title back to the county.very good u21 team in kildare this year mind you

Áth Cliath, Ciarraí, Corcaigh agus Maigh Eo to go through. The Dubs to beat Maigh Eo in one semi final and Corcaigh to beat Ciarraí in the other. The Dubs to win the final.

Dún na nGall to do just enough to survive due to their late start this year but they'll be happy with that going into the Championship under the radar. Cill Dara agus An Dún to go down. Tír Eoghain to do just about enough to stay up.

Dublin, Kerry, Tyrone and Cork to be competing for the winners spot. Down, Donegal and Kildare will struggle. Mayo will be there or there abouts as they're always hard to beat in the league.

Some are saying on here that Tyrone will scrape a few points and keep their heads above water, I must disagree as Mickey Harte has been taking every competition very seriously and wont be saving players of fear of injury.

Tyrone will be going for the Jugular from the start having come from a successful McKenna Cup campaign

Aontaím go hiomlann leis an cuid seo ráite ag Cullan. Bhí mé measartha bhuartha faoi Dhún na nGall, ach tháinig na fixtures in ár bhfabhar.

Cill Dara - Páirc an Chrócaigh
An Dún - Sa bhaile
Tír Eoghain - Omaigh (congrach go leor, tá súil agam go mbeidh na sluaite ann)
Ciarraí - Sa bhaile
Áth Cliath - Sa bhaile

I reckon we can take at least 2 of those games. How many games do you need to win to be safe? I see that Cill Dara and An Dún have drawn each other in the last round of games. I'd say that will be bitterly fought.

Mickey Harte has always taken every competition very seriously cacsmckilly, but that hasn't saved us from the drop before. I am a little more encoruaged this year though than when we last competed in Div 1 three years ago and this years McKenna Cup has seen us play better football than we have done in a long time - particularly the way we seen off Monaghan on Saturday night.

Tyrone open up with two away games (Down and Mayo), so to get points from either will be good results - no doubt Down and Mayo would have picked Tyrone at home as a must win game for themselves. I think the loser in Newry on Saturday night will be the favourite for relegation
