Meath V Armagh - August 2nd

Surely you'd class a semi as greater than the quarter john joe? But I see your point. Great to see Meath back in the premier 8 counties.. It's been too long. Looking forward to it hugely. Going with a bus load of the troops from Carnaross.

ZIGGY Kevin Reilly must know that not all players gave it everything against Dublin. Those that did not can expect critisism.
As usual Kevin did his best, and deserves credit for the way he tried to rally from midfield. This poster will be happy when it is clear that EVERY player gives his best. Cannot do anymore than their best, and let the result take care of itself. We all knew this is a long haul job,but that does not excuse lack of effort in any given match, and that alone justifies critisism from genuine supporters.

In football terms I think that Saturday is as big as you'll get. But I think it's been a fabulous season irregardless

Agreed John Joe. A few pints now after a good 3 or 4 point win in the sun would be fantastic. I tell yas, I won't be on the bus home to Carnaross then! ;)

Ya no doubt Kev gave his best, but I would only half the team could say that.He did well to rally us from midfield, but it was suicide talking him out of full back..

Paul Grimley is talking up Meath in the media up north. I hope he is right and that every Meath player gives it their all, because it is going to be a tough battle allround.

Just popping in and having a look at some of the comments pre-Armagh

I'm both amused and shocked to see Meath fans talking about Mick O'Dowds future.

What happened 9 days ago was a disaster. Tactically MOD got it wrong, In terms of personel he got it wrong also.

But he is a young manager, One of the younger ones and it is clear to see what he is trying to do with this side.

Two-thirds of the guys who started against us where under 25, I think someone else mentioned it, Just goes to show there is a freshness about the side.

You also must remember, Although it might be hard to take, That you weren't playing Kildare 9 days ago, You where playing the best team in the country, The benchmark for most sides, Meath needed everything to go right for them on the day and unfortunately for them, It didnt. Thats not solely down to MOD, But he does have to take some responsibility. A bit of responsibility has to go to the players, And alot of credit has to go to the Dubs who where very very good, Even at 16 points up, working for each other and still showing that intensity.

I was on the Hill and i couldnt help but notice there was a serious lack of on-field leadership. Kevin Reilly tried but the rest, When the going got tough, They didn't step up and in that regard they let not only fans like yourselves down, But they let down MOD who put his faith in them, And more importantly, themselves. But they will learn from it. Mick O'Dowd will learn from it. They can either sit around and whinge about the online abuse feeling sorry for themselves, Or they ca put it right on Saturday.

I said it on another thread and i will say it again, Meath where not too far off promotion to division one, And they are 70mins from the last 8 for the first time since 2010, If they get there, regardless of the LF result, It is progress. Significant progress ? No - But progress nonetheless. Don't read so much into a bad day at the office, You aren't as bad as you showed against us.

Stick by the manager, Have faith in what he is doing. He will improve Meath - Will it be enough to dethrone Dublin in Leinster anytime soon ? Time will tell. But getting rid of another manager with promise and bringing in someone else screams "bad idea" to me.

I saw some of that online abuse and it was disgraceful to be fair, but perhaps players should not be using twitter etc...

Ziggy

I never agree with online personal abuse.

Online criticism ? Meh, Yea i can accept and get my head around that but there is a line and when it gets personal, As Kevin Reilly says, It does go over-board.

I know these guys are amatures but alot of Meath fans paid their hard earned money to go and witness a game and what they saw, would have upset, angered and demoralized many.

They are heros to so many despite their amature status and unfortunately in the modern era of social media, fora etc etc, It is very easy to vent how you feel in the immediate aftermath to disappointment by taking it out on the guys you should support.

The best way to avoid such abuse, Is to stay off social media.

If they choose to go on it aftr a really bd defeat against your fiercest rivals, You can expect a serious backlash. Doesn't make it right or fair. But life isn't fair and thats just how it is.

The best way for those players to silence their critics, Is to put in a performance on Saturday, Cause even the most staunch fan can be the most fickle at times.

Royaldunne sure why stop at 5? Give him 20. Will that make you happy? Jesus.
Imo we have not progressed. New names on team sheets is not progression. Results are progression. And he has failed spactacularly on that front.
Be surprised if we win on saturday. Hopefully the lads can ignore the sideline and deliver for themselves and the fans.

I can see what direction you're going foreverroyal. Lose on Saturday and you'll blame it on Micko. Win and you'll say the team played well and won despite Micko.
We are making progress under this management. If you can't see that then you're simply deluded.

Ah leave ziggy alone. One of the very few and ever decreasing number of great posters on the meath page.

Progress certainly isn't firing a manager every other year, when Boylan came in it took him 4 seasons to win Leinster and 5 to win Sam, his early results weren't great either so by your logic we should certainly have fired him.

4 men have gone between Boylan and MOD and absolutely no progress was made in those intervening years because the longest time anybody got was 2 years, it's impossible to build a team from scratch in that time frame.

MOD needs at very least 4 years to prove we're making progress, he'll never be a Boylan but firing him at the end of this season would be a very foolish thing to do and barring a disastrous season next year (ie relegation and very early championship exit) he should be kept on till at least the end of 2016.
