Intermediate Hurling Championship

(Oldest Posts First)

Heard through the grapevine there may have to be a 3 team play off to sort out who plays who in the semi-final? Surely that can't be the case, the championship wouldn't be finished until late November? 6 teams and it's not finished yet, Gabriel's, Fulham, McCurtain's and Murphy's must be sick of it at this stage.

If it's true that the intermediate hurling semi-finals take place on the 25th I find that pretty unbelievable. A lot of teams are missing players for one reason or another most weeks but to fix the semi-finals for the same day as a potential world cup semi-final day in Twickenham is truly remarkable and short sighted by the fixture committee. I know Ireland may not get there, and that not the point. The fact that we have a chance of getting there and for lads that have been training since very early spring to have to choose between a world cup semi-final and a club semi-final and for many people it may be the only opportunity to be in the same city as one, or who may want to soak up the atmosphere in the fan zone in Richmond or around Twickenham or may have friends coming over for the weekend for it.

If the hurling is fixed for the 25th it truly reflects how little respect is given for lads who give most of their weekends, I'm sure there are many hurlers that turn out for football clubs ( McCurtains + Fulham dual teams + other individuals from other hurling clubs) just to help them out and may have to travel for hours to attend games (often to be called off) that( a) a six team championship is entering the semi-finals in the last weekend in October when, my facts may be wrong but I believe McCurtains had 2 London Hurlers, and I can't off the top of my head think of any others who are playing London intermediate championship were involved in the London county hurling team who were knocked out on the 19th of May.
I believe the Kilkenny and Galway senior hurling championship are playing their semi-finals this weekend and they have legitimate excuses!

I think London hurling is loosing players and potential players as a result of a drawn out championship some short sighted decisions.

Very true 1sided. Championship needs to start earlier in the year and have the finals played off in Sept. No need for so many cups taking up weekends early in the year. I think London intermediate teams play in 5 competitions. That makes no sense when there's only 6 teams competing!

It beats me why they don't scrap the McCullough cup. That could very well run into December by the looks of it. Absolutely pointless competition.
Surely the clubs could come together against the McCullough cup?

Given the realities of modern lifestyles and all that go with it, maybe it's time for the county board to scrap all of these utterly pointless mickey-mouse cups, both in hurling and football?

with Fr. Murphy's drawing last weekend, when is the intermediate championship likely to be finished now? And what happens if Fr. Murphy's win on Sunday?

Winners of the game between Fr.Murphys and Fullen Gaels will go onto represent Britain in the quater final of the Junior All Ireland Club Series.

Game will be against the winners of Ballela GAC (Co.Down) vs Eoghan Rua (Co.Derry) at home on Sat/Sun November 7th/8th.

Fulham Irish bet Fr.Murphys 13pts to 9pts. Poor showing by Murphy's missed some crucial chances to win, Be disappointed won't be hurling senior next year.
