In the midst of the global crisis, what does the upcoming year hold for the GAA throughout the country, and for the club scene in Leitrim?

I'd say we are safe in Div3 for 2020 & that was the goal at the start of the year. Liatroim abu!

At senior level, Shield will have to be scrapped. We will be very lucky to get the league played before the championship, possibly a few games without county players. Hopefully championship will be unaffected, worst case it would have to go old school straight knockout.

On that note I would love to see the intercounty All Irelands to go straight knockout, would add a huge excitement even if only for the one freak year we are having.

Underage may need to scrap leagues too. Hopefully championships can be pushed back a little.

I would agree in regards the straight knockout... imagine the excitement of an inter county straight knockout! No seeding required!
The same could go for the club championship here at home... although it would bring great excitement, many clubs may not agree with such set up... but it is something that will be considered I'm sure

I see other counties are picking a best 15 but you can only use 1 Player from each club. I'll have a go

1. Martin McHugh (Aughnasheelin)
2. Dermot Renoylds (St.Marys)
3. John McKeown (Drumreilly)
4. Micheal McGuninness (Mohill)
5. Noel Moran (Allen Gaels)
6. Declan Darcy (Aughwillian)
7. Paddy Maguire (Manor)
8. Christy Carroll (Kiktubrid)
9. Seamus Quinn (Gortletteragh)
10. Liam Conlon (SOH)
11. Emylin Mulligan (Melvin Gaels)
12. Micheal Foley (Drumkeerin)
13. Ryan O Rourke (Fenagh)
14. Conor Beirne (Eslin)
15. Fintan McBrien (Aughvas)

It's a lot harder than I thought

Great idea this, I'm not sure of what changes I would make to that 15! Full of Leitrim legends of past and present. Colm O Reilly (SOH) is a man who could sneak in however. Only got to see him a handful of times, a true club warrior who never graced the inter county stage

Starting to look like there may not be a ball kicked at all at county or club level this year lads

I can't see GAA agreeing to games behind closed doors as there will be no gate receipts.

Having read Enda Stenson quotes in the Observer today it looks like it'll be straight to championship when we return. I'm delighted to see some club action but I'd love to see the league played as well. It's only seven games and could be sandwiched in alot of the games in August, could run of championship in September and October I suppose it's a case of wanting your cake and eating it. At least we'll see the cake that's something

National league will 100% be finished out but only games that matter. I'd say after round 6 most counties will know their faith bar 4/5 teams with ourselves and Tipp been 2 off them.

What is the situation with Leitrim in Div3? I know ye have 3pts but would ye boys be confident of staying up?
And on the club scene, who would be favorites for a title this year? Usual contenders or any new dark horses like Carrick ready to make a mark?

Two rounds left in the league and we have a winner takes all show down with Tipperary in Carrick in the last league fixture regardless of the outcome previous round.

Club scene wise Manorhamiltons day has passed i feel with an aging squad and with James Glancy and Pat Gilmartin gone they are two irreplaceable players. Last years beaten finalists Ballinamore are the favourites for me with a great crop of young talented footballers, never rule out aughawillan and mohill and carrick will be close too.

Eslin were roaring in training before the pandemic put a stop to their forward gallop. Hard to look past them this year.

I see the fixture calendar has been released today for the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships. it looks absolutely nuts proceeding with the whole 4 game group stage rigamarole to reduce 10 teams to 8. Is there any appetite at all for it this year? Think the county board have made a mess of this one.

Yes, why not leave the original qualifying system. It gave an incentive for teams to win the group and letting 4th place teams qualify in a five team group is daft. 1st place to semi, 2nd and 3rd to quarter is still the best way.

However I'd disagree with you about the appetite for it. Anyone I know is well up for it.
