Replying To StopTheLights:  "Moycullen clearly the best team in Galway?
We're they not well outplayed in this years Co Final by Salthill?
We're they not gifted the Co title by a last minute moment of madness by the Salthill keeper?
Fair play to them, and they are "one of the best teams in Galway", no doubt.
"Clearly" the best team? I think next year will prove otherwise.
Pity they didn't make it to the All Ireland Final though.
Was there supporting them last Sunday.
Great year for them."
They were the best in Galway. They beat Corofin, Mountbellew and Salthill on their way to the title and didn't lose a match.
Salthill got through with a bit of a softer run and didn't beat any of the big 3, losing to Mountbellew and Moycullen.
You mention the last minute goal being a mistake, but ignore that Salthill's goal was very fortuitous. He was clearly going for a point and between the mishit and it getting caught in the wind, it dropped under the crossbar. That's football, both teams got goals which would be deemed as soft.
The final was a tight and cagey game. No team was well outplayed and there was rarely more than a couple of points between them.
Over the course of the year, Moycullen were definitely the best team in Galway and took a well deserved second title in 3 years.

Replying To smallfrank:  "On the newer guys.
Johnny McGrath seems to have really bulked up.
Fitzgerald was very good on Keith Britney
O'Flaherty was brilliant, pace, power, can score and can claim a kick out.
Maher was my MOTM, ran himself into the ground, moves the ball on, we dominated the middle.
Both keepers looked good, Power with one bad kick out.
Matthew Barrett, ran himself into the ground as well in the second half, will get fitter.
Evan Murphy, looked the part last night, great score, strong man with pace.
Dylan Canney, Good player, deserved-his score.
Brian Mannion, gave the ball away a couple of times but lively and can score.
Nathan Grainger, point and won two frees, very accurate, deserves the chance.
Darragh Varley, played and ran very well. Made a point of shaking his hand afterwards, big day for guys like this regardless of what club they are from, they are pulling on the Maroon jersey, huge honour, well done to them all that got their first run yesterday."
Would like to see all these new faces get more game time against Mayo Saturday.
Would be a great experience for them and will tell where they are at physically and mentally.

I cant see McStay starting a B team, he will want to prove a point and have Mayo ready for the first round of the league in 2 weeks.

Joyce said in the post-match interview last week that it would be a similar enough team facing Mayo. He only had 26 training up to the Leitrim game with the amount of players out with club commitments and a few knocks. I'd say they might rotate one or two who will be busy with Sigerson. Finnerty played last night for DCU and got a couple of goals.

Good post. Maher had a really impressive club season with Salthill. Would love to see him develop into a county player. This guy is a workhorse and a good link player. Probably doesnt have the kicking ability of an intercounty midfielder, but PJ and the boys will work on this with him. He knows his limitations too. He could be a Michael Darragh MacAuley type player for us.

I know it was Leitrim but sounds very positive and a lot of lads putting their hand up.

These matches should be played outdoors in a larger capacity venue.

Why should they? Outdoor susceptible to bad weather and call offs/late venue changes. At least now we know the competition will run off before the start of the league.

We play them in Castlebar in 2 weeks, there will be plenty of room for us all then ;-)

Any word on fixtures for the year in Senior/Intermediate football?

Are the football weeks set out?

What is the SFC structure going to be now with only 17 teams?

No. The reason why the tickets sold so quickly Id say is because it's an indoor venue and spectators can watch the game in warmth and comfort. Would there be any greater demand to go see the game (which is no more than a pre-season warm-up) if it was at an outdoor venue? I doubt it.

And would probably be called off at the last minute due to waterlogged pitches.
Makes total sense to play it in the Dome at this time of year with the league only around the corner.

Team will be interesting with Sigerson on this week. I noticed Daniel O'Flaherty was a sub on the UG team. He was very impressive against Leitrim.

Hopefully Sigerson lads will get a bit of a rest and not be asked to play 2 games a week this month. Last thing we want is a few hamstring injuries.

Lads you do realise the capacity Friday night is under 2k and the last Galway v Mayo FBD outdoors in 2020 had over 7k at it? It was always going to sell out in a matter of minutes.

Sunny weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday so no outdoor pitch would be waterlogged this weekend.

Big crowd would have attended in Tuam or Castlebar. Matter of fact more attended Mayo v Sligo challenge recently in Ballina than what will be allowed to attended Saturday night.

Out interest how many supporters here actually got their hands on tickets when they went on sale yesterday? It was a real limited amount Tickets once family members, sponsors and officials was handed tickets.

The reason why the tickets sold so quickly is because people are aware of the limited supply. You would get more than 1,500 at this game outdoors, no question.

Would it? Sigerson played in Dangan last night with no issues.

It's Mayo football we're talking about here. You can question the quality of their forwards for the last 50 years or so, but you can never question that their fanbase has a pulse.

Weather warning currently in affect. The second of the week. Forecast to rain all Friday night. Dry Saturday during the day and then expected to rain all Saturday night until Sunday morning how exactly can we be certain no pitch will be waterlogged?

Dome is available. Heavy rain all week . Dome is where it should be played. Events like this is what I expected the Dome to be used for
