Lots of players turned it down. Just too much commitment for many. The Ramor players will have lots of chances anyway. Very young. James and Jack are injured. With McKenna cup finished what would peoples starting 15 be for Dublin?

No ... but 5/1 to the students with some serious county players against a Cavan 3rd team must have looked inviting to anyone connected with UUJ.

The game showed we don't have a huge dept of squad. The ramor players turning down the invite to join the squad is their business and probably looked at the commitment required and rightly made the correct decision for them. Was in Breffni last night. Time to demand a refund for the season ticket, berate players and management at every opportunity for the rest of the season, tell everyone within earshot in the pub that Cavan are s**te , delight in every loss from here on out and lament the fact that some day I'll be telling the grandchildren about how we let the McKenna Cup slip through our fingers in 2017...........f**k that, bring on the Dubs ramor101 (Cavan) - Posts: 289 - 19/01/2017 10:02:53 1946881 Link 1 |

To add to the 5 Ramor players I believe 4 castlerahan lads also turned down the opportunity. Thats 9 from our senior finalists. Then there is a few kingscourt lads that have not commited in recent years. Just shows the current demands of county football. BootIt (Cavan) - Posts: 136 - 19/01/2017 10:10:40 1946885 Link 0 |

A few years ago when some Cavan Gaels players turned the chance down they were slated here left right and centre as not being interested. It's seems acceptable now. Different strokes for different folks it seems. Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 19/01/2017 10:44:03 1946908 Link 0 |

Im sorry but there are not five Ramor players who are currently better than the personel on the county senior panel. Now Bradley, James Brady and the two brothers who play in the backs look like good prospects. McEnroe is on the panel is he not? Likewise, apart from Mackey who are the Castlerahan lads who are better than what is currently on the panel. Keep in mind the fact that McEnroe and Fergal Reilly are on county panels. Although, worrying that Mark Bradley did so much damage when he came on.

If people were slating them that's just ignorance. A lot of them Gaels players had highly pressurised careers that made it impossible to fully commit. The Ramor lads are still under 21 so shouldn't be pressurised yet. It's ideal for teachers and public servants but not full time working fellas.

One Castlerahan player I'd like to see on county panel is Enda O Connell. In my opinion the best man marker in county. Plays on the edge.

Well, there have been better nights in Breffni but I am still ok with our progress. It does put a bit of a dampner on things, especially after beating Tyrone convincingly in Breffni a couple of weeks ago. I think that we are starting to earth out a panel and the hammer will be coming soon for the league. With injuries as they are, I imagine there will be a few players in the league squad who will be nowhere near championship selection. Doratheexplorer asked for a starting 15? I can't commit to that yet as I have not seen enough but I would think the nucleus off the team will be much the same as last year. On a more positive not, the team that i would like to see taking the field against Dublin, assuming G Mckiernan and Buchanan are still injured is; sceptical (Cavan) - Posts: 544 - 19/01/2017 12:13:58 1946941 Link 0 |

Biggest problem is Clarke because he doesn't seem to really fit anywhere in a team game. Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 19/01/2017 12:19:38 1946942 Link 0 |

Good team. One change would be put in Niall McKiernan for Paul O Connor.

Build all the teams you like it will be hard work for the management to get a team together that will give Cavan a good performance. I have a gut feeling Paul O'Connor picked up an injury last night so looking doubtful for a few weeks I am sure. From what I have seen I am sure the Boss will know what strengths we have. I still think that Clarke should be a wing half back or a wing half forward time to stop messing about and get him sorted positional wise. Those of you that were at the match I wonder can any of you explain why? when we were two points down for what was it 15 minuets or so they reverted back to playing the ball outwards instead of driving forward. I thought Seannie when he came on would have done that and picked a few close in frees. We will learn from it and now at least we had three challenge matches to learn something I hope. Keep the faith things will get better please god. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4602 - 19/01/2017 13:15:16 1946964 Link 0 |

Sceptical, that's pretty much the same forward unit that we finished with last night and we didn't look like we would catch them on the scoreboard. Think McDermott if fit is still our best forward. Not sure on Mooney yet, took far too much out of it and broke our momentum. Decision making needs to be much quicker too. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 19/01/2017 13:55:19 1946978 Link 0 |

What about Niall McDermott? I would definitely have him in at full forward.

Actually forgot about McDermott and Faulkner. I would have him in instead of O Connor. Niall Mckiernan i believe could develop into a useful forward but needs to work on his decision making. I think that this will be a big year for both Madden and Mooney. Galligan Reilly Dunne McGloughlin Faulkner Moynagh Smith Corr Clarke M Reilly Mooney Mcvitty Johnson Madden Mcdermott. Gonna be interesting when G Mckiernan and Argue are fit. Also Murray, N Mckiernan, Ciaran Brady, O Connor to come off bench. sceptical (Cavan) - Posts: 544 - 19/01/2017 14:51:45 1946999 Link 0 |
