I know this was only a glorified challenge game but you have to be beating a College side especially at home. Even Donegal's U. 21's beat them. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 19/01/2017 18:01:17 1947099 Link 0 |

Slasher defence was wide open. UUJ should have had couple goals. I hope we have a defensive plan versus Dublin. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 19/01/2017 19:12:30 1947128 Link 0 |

UUJ should have had 2 or 3 goals in in the second half. He might not like playing a sweeper, but he will have to do something with the defence FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 19/01/2017 20:05:56 1947143 Link 0 |

That defence last night looked good on paper but obviously didn't perform. That's worrying. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 19/01/2017 20:18:10 1947145 Link 0 |

He might have been able to get away with man to man in the Monaghon Championship but at this level you need a defensive plan. Dubs won an all Ireland in 2013 playing open football. In 2014 donegal hammered them and since then the dubs even tightened up and won two all irelands since with a balance between defence and attack. While none of us like blanket defences if we go into division one with a wide open defence we will be like lambs for the slaughter. blueskies (Cavan) - Posts: 198 - 20/01/2017 00:10:10 1947218 Link 0 |

Right, im going to make a stab at a starting 15, assuming that none of injuries are recovered and if Mr O'Rinn's comment on Paul O'Connor being added to the injuries is also a fact. That means the team is minus Gearoid, Buchanan, O'Connor, McEnroe, Argue, Jack Brady... Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 357 - 20/01/2017 11:09:46 1947287 Link 0 |

does that take into account the managers stance that the players who have the jersey keep the jersey and others have to earn it. Has Farrelly done enough to be dropped/galligan done enough to take his place? The same goes for Hayes, McCutcheon, mooney, madden, niall mckiernan?? wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1754 - 20/01/2017 12:15:58 1947317 Link 0 |

I think that Galligan would be first choice to be honest. I am not sure why he is not playing but Farrelly hasn't really done anything wrong so perhaps he has a case. As regards the others, Mattie did say that players have to earn the jersey but I wouldn't think that the players that you mentioned have done enough in the games. What happens in training, I cannot say, but I think that we need to go full tilt for the Dublin game. That's how I see it but I may be wrong! From the 2 games I have seen and looking at availability, that would be what I would consider our strongest 15.

Galligan is injured. Farrelly most likely will be in nets v Dublin. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 20/01/2017 14:45:59 1947377 Link 0 |

Ado Cole full forward (my player of the year) and damien barkey Full back, 2 standout players last championship would strengthen the team. EastCavan (Cavan) - Posts: 183 - 20/01/2017 15:16:37 1947379 Link 2 |

wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts:1272 - 20/01/2017 12:15:58 1947317 My comment on Paul O'Connor was on what I saw Wednesday night at the match. He tried to work it off but as I said my gut feeling he has picked up an injury. So I may well be wrong but as I have said just my opinion from my observation nothing else. problem like last year is we have no CB , uuj went down the middle like most teams last year, if we are going to play a sweeper we still need a CB that holds that position, Moynagh is not the answer to CB, maybe as a sweeper yes, clarke needs to play midfield against dublin , maybe put Faulkner in there with him , corr hasnt the legs for dubs midfield , g.smith in as a half forward, mc veety as a wing back paulie (Cavan) - Posts: 44 - 23/01/2017 22:02:51 1948261 Link 0 |

McCutcheon is probably the only player on the current panel cut out for centre back.

We should be keeping our feet on the ground with regards to the league. While we all wish and hope for good performances and a few wins to cement our place in Div 1 we must keep in mind that many of our experienced players are not there this year and some of our new players are not experienced. I wouldn't be putting money on us winning any of our games but I will still go and support the team and do a bit of praying. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts:10040 - 24/01/2017 13:47:22 1948403 Cavan_Slasher if the boss picks what is truly the strongest team we have at this moment and play's them in positions they are comfortable in I don't see any reason why they cannot upset the odds. If they can show the spirit they are showing at the moment in time and play the type of game the boss wants I think you will be pleasantly surprised so get your ticket early. I will be happy with a point and excited with two. I still feel if the boss play's our strength we will do fine but if he reverts back well then it will be a huge struggle to pick up anything. He has my back anyway and please god he does play our strongest team. We will know once the starting 15 line out next Sunday. Best of luck to the lad's and Cavan. I see huge potential BUT I am on my own and my opinion does not matter. He has the luxury of consulting with three or is it 4 others not sure I have just myself and my opinion. Do you understand what I am trying to say. I expect not?? The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4602 - 29/01/2017 14:18:19 1949732 Link 0 |
