Even before the Mc Kenna Cup match against UUJ at home I wasn't very confident and look how that turned out. They put on two good forwards at half-time and they blew us out of the water by scoring something like nine points between them.

Harsh! What did you think of Gearoids performance against Galway last year in Breffni? What did you think of Givney v Tyrone. There are consistently good performers for Cavan. The level of negativity here is amazing. We are a small county and have no divine right to be in division one or winning Ulster titles. Thats not a cop out, it is reality. I do agree that we can be overly optimistic sometimes but that is maybe heart over head stuff sometimes.

What rattles my cage is people can't enjoy the adventure in division 1 here. Why? Are people shocked that we would find it tough having lost some players and with a new manager? Get behind the team I say. We are Cavan, not Dublin, not Kerry."]yea, why should people want to compete..surely being there is enough. Why should we expect to mix it with teams that start 5 u21 players? Why should we strive to survive in Div1 after 5 ulster21 finals in a row? lets just go out and enjoy being a distant 2nd best and celebrate the fact that we are on the same pitch as some off these teams for one season before looking forward to Div2 football next season. Sure isn't that why the players are getting looked after so well, so many hundreds of thousands being spent on them..just to enjoy the participation. I feel the u21 success we had which was great at the time because we were so success starved is now hindering us.
We played a very negative brand of football firstly with 2 or 3 forwards at most playing. Natural forwards were not nurtured and now we have none.
Secondly u21 was prioritized over senior. Players who should of been unleashed at 19 and 20 were held back until 22. Look at all the other top teams they fire in lads at 18 19 if good enough. we don't.

What is the prognosis next week for the U-21 championship opener against Fermanagh. Is it likely we will have a couple of top class seniors out of it in time, particularly forwards and midfielders.I know Thomas Galligan has shown great promise in midfield, big and mobile, maybe Mattie McKenna. The young Reilly lad from the Bridge looks a talented player in the forwards. Is Conor Bradley available, big David Brady a huge loss due to injury.

We haven't produced any top class players from u21's in the past.
OK we have players that have filtered into the Senior team, but no super stars. No one for example like Conor Mc Manus.
Another problem with the U21 grade is that it is a closed shop. Squads are based on past minor teams. No open trials.
We should beat fermanagh but can't see us picking up silverware.

McManus isn't the greatest example. He didn't play Minor for Monaghan and was only drafted onto the U21 team because of club performances and he was a half back then and didn't start in full forward line for the seniors for 4 years.

Past u21 teams have produced Fintan Cahill and Ronan Carolan from one team and then Larry, jason,Peter,Micky Graham.all of these were natural forwards with plenty of class but more recent Ulster U21s teams have not produced even one natural forward, this is nothing to do with defensive systems. Anyone that knows anything knows that county set ups do not produce anything except much fitter and better conditioned players, the forwards we need are not produced by any county teams, they are fellas with natural flair who are nurtured by their clubs. All i am saying is that the players have to exist at club level firstly and at present they dont .

The team has being picked and is nothing like that. You've set a record for the amount of players out of position.

Any of you that were at the donegal match would of seen Falkner holding his hamstring and wanting to come off but wasn't taken off? Because we were down to 13 when actually we were down to 12 because he couldn't move. bad action when we were been beaten anyway.

Yes sadly young P. Faulkner had a hamstring issue and the management you will have noticed if you were at the match moved him to the full forward . Problem now is how long will he be out ??

I saw him pull up all right. But if it's a hamstring injury and it's enough to keep him out if the 1st 15, he'd be off the bench too.

I'd say he'll be given a chance to show his fitness right up to throw in and he'll start if fit.
