Johnston is our best scoring forward but he doesn't seem to play well against Ulster teams. He gets man marked by teams like Tyrone very easily. McCarron won't give him a sniff and never has. That's why there certain games where using him as an impact sub would give him a free roll. Morale wise bringing him on to score 2/3 points would be more befinicial that taking him off with 20 mins to go. There might be some truth in that but if he's getting special attention then it should offer more space elsewhere for other players. And if he is one of our better forwards and cannot make headway why would putting a lesser player in his place be a better option? Johnson has his knockers but he's not shy and we'll need him IMO if we are to have any success Sunday. Saving him for the second half hoping we're still in the game by then doesn't strike me as a great game plan.

Yeah we need Johnston!!! but we'll never have him for the big and tight games, he's too windy. The thoughts of Neil Mc Gee the last night had him showing the white feather. Reilly was poor last 10 mins. First time his form dipped. Also not helped he was injured. As for lads picking Clarke in their team and him suspended is mind-boggling. Shows intelligence. Corr is out and Ciaran Brady too.

He showed when he could the other night, drew a few fouls, kicked a few scores. It'll inspire no songs but there were a lot worse than him out. Like him or not, other teams' defenses single him out cause he'll play if he's let and if they had the choice themselves they'd rather see him on the bench. I'd be a fan of Jack but is he even fit? And I'd agree, he's better suited inside and last year was finally starting to show something at senior. But it's still only potential, there's nothing to say for definite he's a big game player.

I had Clarke down on my team and beside it .if available. So nothing to do with stupidity sometimes a suspension can be lifted depending on ref report I was on the terris so couldn't make out tackle.

I would play McLoughlin Dillon McDermott O'Connor McCutcheon despite not being at the races against Dublin the two Murrays Corr and that would be a start, Galligan and Faulkner are defo starters might try Rory in the Middle Shackle McKiernan to the 13 meter line so he can either score or feed the two corner forwards or the half forward line Instruction unless there is a better option once you are near 35 meters shoot for your point, Madden has to start so lets surprise this Tyrone team with an attack minded team with also having a good back line. 2 points there to be had, Come on it's possible and stop all the negative crap.

He should get off. The melee impacted the refs decision. And besides, any suspension shouldn't apply to this game as it's refixed if all things were fair.

This post has me thinking, have we actually got any big game players at all?? Think about it, who in the current panel has consistently stood up and stamped their authority on top level games? OK there are isolated examples like Mackey against Armagh in 2013, Rory Dunne v Donaghy in the Kerry QF, and maybe Johnston against Wicklow in 2010 (if that counts). We also got 40 minutes from Argue against Monaghan in 2015. And whats more, we havent seen a solitary good performance in the Ulster club championship from any Cavan player in 15 years or more. Where is the evidence for all this quality that we have ourselves convinced about? I'm beginning to wonder! Hopefully someone will prove me wrong in Omagh

It comes under the catagory of " next match ban rule" so that's why it's the Tyrone game. A 2nd same offence would have been a 2 match game . I can't recall one brilliant performance by any player in the last number of years. Maybe it's just me. I also seem to lack the confidence that we can win any match because i've been fooled many a time. I don't understand the confidence some posters have before matches or what inspires it. Maybe someone could explain it? Even before the Mc Kenna Cup match against UUJ at home I wasn't very confident and look how that turned out. They put on two good forwards at half-time and they blew us out of the water by scoring something like nine points between them. Many of our players seem to lack mental strength and the heads drop when things start to go pear-shaped. This is a side of the game that need a lot of work. Harsh! What did you think of Gearoids performance against Galway last year in Breffni? What did you think of Givney v Tyrone. There are consistently good performers for Cavan. The level of negativity here is amazing. We are a small county and have no divine right to be in division one or winning Ulster titles. Thats not a cop out, it is reality. I do agree that we can be overly optimistic sometimes but that is maybe heart over head stuff sometimes. What rattles my cage is people can't enjoy the adventure in division 1 here. Why? Are people shocked that we would find it tough having lost some players and with a new manager? Get behind the team I say. We are Cavan, not Dublin, not Kerry. I'd say we are an average to above average team and our players for the most part fall into that category. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that and it's actually a good place to be. I'd say we lack a talisman for the big games, a lad you can always rely on, who you know will consistently perform no matter what and who will inspire others when the going gets really tough. I think Givney could be that player in a full forward role, someone who can turn a game when we are really struggling and swing momentum back in our favour like against Tyrone last year. Sean Cavanagh would be Tyrone's for the last number of years. We have plenty of good players but maybe they lack a bit of consistency and maybe that springs from a lack of leadership on the field. To win big prizes you need consistency and Ulster is a long way off for us unless we get a very lucky draw with just one big game to win. It is what it is- the lads are doing their best and I for one enjoy following this team and think they are value for money and deserve a bit of support. I'm not expecting miracles from them.
