Where are all the forwards from the 4 winning U21s teams?
All the talk about the great TH but he didn't develope many forwards this past 4 and a half years did he?
We been relying on Johnston , MReillyband Mackey.. when did they play U21s?
It's great winning these underage titles but very little has been brought through.
Unlike Donegal and Tyrone... teams we beat st underage level."
You're right.

Terry deserves great credit for managing to win so much at under 21 without a top class forward.

Nice of you to finally give the man his dues!

The dogs on the street know that he has not the physical strength or anything to play full forward. He needs to go back out midfield if he's good enough and let him play a bit of football again. I've seen him play at full forward for BBoro at IFC level and be completely ineffective, for Cavan on several occasions also.
I feel the burden of Captaincy may be effecting Killian Clarkes performances too. ALthough i thought the red card to be harsh the other night.

I beg the question how many of our team would start for Tyrone?"
Interesting question.

It's not that straight forward. Thake Niall Sludden as an example. We've had 10 or 12 Niall Sluddens on the Cavan panel over the past decade and nothing has come of them (I'm talking decent footballers but nothing special).

But look at well he's doing with someone like Sean Cavanagh to look up to and with the likes of Peter harte or mattie donnelley alongside him. If gearoid mckiernan was to come out of u21 and onto the tyrone/mayo/kerry panel he'd probably be in the top 3 midfielders in Ireland.

We're after reaching division 1 after what?. . .12-13 years in the wilderness. You can argue that we've been developing since 2012 but that's true, and it's true that we're still developing. We'd be punching above our weight by staying up. The only team outside of the established few who are currently doing that are Monaghan because they've a once in a lifetime player.

Feel Monaghan are more than a "once in a lifetime player" because of the recent success. He started as a wing half back when Tommy Freeman was the main man. Monaghan are battle hardened at this stage. This isn't their first stint in Division 1 in past few years. They've learned the hard way and suffered relegation's. If McManus is being well marshalled they seem to have others to step up now whereas a few years ago they would have struggled. Sledging Terry wont avoid relegation nor will sledging Mattie. Mattie needs time. Division 1 is a baptism of fire. On the other hand an Ulster title is a long way off unless a dramatic improvement happens. As it stands we would be behind Derry, Donegal, Tyrone, Monaghan at least. We hopefully could mirror Monaghan's success that while we will be probably relegated we would hopefully bounce back and push for promotion again within a year or two. Hopefully not be like Kildare or Westmeath when they got relegated.

Oh wait .... he brought back the man he help run 4 years earlier!!
How ironic Seanie ended up top scorer last year!!

We shackled McManus a couple of weeks ago. Monaghan scored 7 points.

Donegal did the same I'm their replayed ulster semi final last year and comfortably beat them.

He didn't play well against Longford in the qualifiers. They lost that game. To Longford.

They are the very definition of a 1 man team.

2005 I think he was U21 wasn't it? Remember we came up short in the final? If you're suggesting that we could have gotten across the line that year if Terry had been in charge.. I fully agree once again.

But anyway, all your reminiscing about Terry is taking us off topic!

We need to see something more from Cavan going forward against Tyrone. The lethargy and lack of purpose in attack against Donegal was the most concerning thing about the loss. 4 games into the league campaign, we should be settling into some kind of pattern of play. I don't see us beating Tyrone, if we couldn't take them last year, I can't see us taking them this year. We have regressed. It would be an incredible boost if the lads could somehow pull it off.

Thankfully, there's been no McGleenan interviews telling us how much we'll have learned from the shambles in Breffni last Saturday evening and how much craic the game was. Let's hope he's plotting something special for Sunday. The best of luck to them!!

We had 4 and a half years of "we will learn for the experience" or " we have to stop making the same mistakes" interviews... you could reminisce on youtube same interview ... different Sunday!!

tyrone whipped monaghan and they hammered us last year when we where far stronger and a better team so it could be a cricket score on sunday and probably will be

They beat us by a point last year in same fixture.

Omagh is going to be very tough. Tyrone are starting to move into their stride and they will win the league in my opinion. I'd agree with what the other posters said about going down with a fight. I'd love to see the team start to get a bot of structure. We need a backbone in this team and we need to start finding positions for our key men and keeping them there. There is no point in moving Killian Clarke around different positions all year. We have a much better back line than forward line but that gives us a strong base and we need to have the likes of Clarke in the back line with Falukner, Dunne (full back all day), Ciaran Brady, Moynagh, etc. We are not going to find brilliant forwards overnight and thats just how it is. Lets work with what we have and give it a shot.

My take is that there is no shame in Cavan being relegated from a very strong division 1. The shame will be if we go down having not tried to play players in their correct roles and messed around with selection for the whole league. I am not coming out against McGleenan, actually i think this is a harsh baptism of fire for him, but what I would like to see is the best Cavan team played in correct positions.

To back that up, here would be my team for Omagh - assuming everyone is fit.

Galligan
Reilly
Dunne
Faulkner
Clarke
Moynagh
Brady
G McKiernan
Corr
Smith
McVeety
Reilly
Clerkin
McDermott
Johnston

Im open to the idea of Faulkner at centre half back but I am thinking about this game in particular and he needs to be in the full back line. Also, Killian Clarke to cover McCanns surging runs and wing half back is perfect place for him. Martin Reilly on the other side with the legs to back up Ciaran Brady in watching Peter Harte - thats assuming both of those lads start wing backs for Tyrone.

Would be exactly my team although I'd find a place for mackey if fully fit.

McDermott/niall mckiernan is a 50/50 call too.

Why would SJ be starting? he's well behind the pace so far this year, any half decent corner back could marshal him easily and in fairness Tyrone have plenty of half decent corner backs

Good team layout. I'd have Mackey in instead of Johnston and madden instead of McDermott.
