Replying To Awwwwnow: "Fredflint how did you work that out that it was a winnable home game?" He said most winnable. He's right considering the other two are Dublin and Kerry. Plus the fact it was a Donegal team in transition.

Replying To Awwwwnow: "We are not good enough for Div 1.. when we start beating the Monaghan and Donegal and Roscommon and the likes in the championship then we might beat them in the league. Mattie knows that hence the trying out lads in various positions It's amazing when he took over from a man who was there 4 and a half years we didn't have anyone settled in any main positions only Galligan. No regular full back, centre half or Centre forward despite having a long term manager previously." Full back was Rory Dunne. Toasty centre back till he retired and replaced by Moynagh. Quit letting your agenda get in the way facts. The new manager has had 6 games so far. What is the game plan? Can you see the use of any tactics? There is no sign of any progress being made.

What's making it more obvious is playing against more seasoned opposition. U21s from 2010/2011/2012 have not advanced at the rate Donegal U21s of the same era have. And who is that down to? Certainly not Mattie.
Mattie has to start from scratch

Majority of Donegal team have either played in a Senior or minor all Ireland so there not much transition there. We're in transition since 2012 and don't seem to be getting much better. No manager in the history of Cavan football had as many players to pick from as TH had and he still couldn't make a fist of it at Senior level. Mattie needs time . Terry got time .if Mattie gets us back to Div 1,in 3/4 years time he will have achieved as much as TH has.

Why, were there more players playing in Cavan when Hyland was in charge than any other time?
It's gems like this that keep me coming back.

This indiscipline goes back a few years now . It was rife in THs time. But I felt the sending off worked in our favour last night as we now know K Clarke rightful position. I honestly feel the rest of the year in that position will do wonders for bringing the lad back to reality. Is Faulkner a full back? Midfielder? Or full forward? I couldn't really work it out last night. Whe I saw the number 3 and 14 lining up for the throw in at the start of the 2nd half I realised it could only happen in Cavan. There were a few lads out there that won't be county footballers even if they were out there for the next 20 years.,They just not cut out for it. Agree about Faulkner. It was utterly bizarre seeing him play at full forward when he has cut his intercounty teeth in defence up until now. What was playing him there supposed to achieve?
Think you're harsh on Clarke, there is definitely a place for him in the starting 15, although as captain getting sent off early on was disappointing to see.
I think we can write off survival in the league after last night, McGleenan should use the rest of the games to figure out his best championship 15.

Have you seen any hint of tactics, a system or a plan so far???

Mattie is new there. Positions and players this past few years wasn't working. What would be the point in playing players where they played last year if it didn't work last year or the year before? He needs time.

I am not against the management or anything but last night was a joke no game plan players out of position Falkner our best defender why not leave him there. Rory Dunne our best full back in years leave him there Fergal Reilly good corner back leave him there full back line sorted with k brady and Mcloughlin as cover.half backs k Clarke moynagh martin reilly c brady and n Murry as cover. Midfield Mckiernan mossy or mccuthion. Half forwards mcveety madden g smith . full forwards Clerkin niall Mckiernan Mackey. And leave defenders as defenders and for god sake get them fit Donegal were streets ahead of them in fitness even Murphy. And Falkner was holding his hamstring should have been let come off

I'm talking about systems, game plans and tactics. Yes or no? And if yes elaborate. Because I see no element of any of them at any game yet.

Bit early for calling for Mattie's head; If we beat Monaghan and Donegal we would be raving about him. We left a win behind in Castleblaney. Last night was very frustrating especially the sending off. However, if you take out an uncharacteristic bad kickout from Raymond, an uncharacteristic lunge from Killian (the crowd were really getting interested at that point) and the point off the post from Mackey that would leave it 16: to 12. I'm not sure if Killian would have closed the gap had he remained on but that's the frustrating thing about playing football at the highest level. You get punished badly for what in my opinion are basic errors of judgement/decision making rather than athleticism or football ability. I'd like to think discipline and decision making would improve here and quickly.
Incidentally, James Farrelly was excellent from his restart kickouts against Monaghan and really learnt from the Dublin game. Wondered why he didn't hold the jersey for this game. Lookit, if Terry was still there, we might have no points but lost by less perhaps, who knows.
I like to look at the positives. Win or learn seems to be the mantra at the minute and it seems to work for most ! Faulkner is very much like like Killian and has alot to offer going forward no matter where he plays.
Argue, is not as mobile as others but he does have some noticeable attributes. We need to play to our strengths. I think we need to send the ball into him high. This only happened once last night and then he was off. You got to try again. We did get one free off him last night.
The expectation is huge here. There are too many parameters and moving parts to gel before this team and management will understand what each other wants.
When Mattie came in, I was very hopeful that our forward play would be more incisive, decisive and direct resulting in exciting forward play and afew more goals. We have some very good forwards but the management need to settle on personnel to do certain jobs and empower them to lead the team and direct the pattern of play and take their chances rather than pass the book. There was one occasion where we had some brilliant interplay, we hit the back of the net but sadly from the side. Gearoid also scored a really good indiviual point in the secondhalf.
If you change the management now, I don't think we would be any further on. The sending off and that bad kickout messed up this game. Apart from that, Donegal are a better footballing team and have some no nonsense direct scoring forwards.
Last night was very hard to implement any plan when you go a man down.
BTW: Any chance of getting Damian Reilly from Belturbet back or Givney should be taken.

The lack of discipline and red cards has being part of our game for last few years. Needa to be eradicated big time.

Like a lot of great men, Terry wasn't appreciated in his own time. The harsh reality is beginning to come clear now and I fear it will continue along these lines. The huge scores racked up in the last couple of seasons and the sense of purpose and confidence in the team is long gone and we're back to the 'let's hope this doesn't get embarrassing' attitude of pre 2012.
I don't blame McGleenan, a good man doing his level best with what he has. His stats however, make for depressing reading. 29 points in our 3 games so far. This weekend last year we scored almost that total in one game against Armagh. The chopping and changing, the impulsive substitutions... It's really hard to see the positives other than the performances of a few individual players. There's no doubt in my mind that this Cavan panel under Terry Hyland or Peter Reilly would be much more competitive. But alas, that wasn't to be.
For now, we try to consolidate going up to Omagh, hope that Mattie stops trying to reinvent the wheel and realises that he won't make any of our defenders into an All Star full forward all of a sudden. Hope that we can get enough scores to keep it respectable and not stamp the teams confidence further into the ground. Keep an eye on division 2 and target a rebound in 2018. Get a plan in place for the championship, keep it simple, play to our strengths and hope for the best.

One glaring mistake that Mattie made was to use up all his subs so when Mackey got black-carded, he had no-one to replace him, that was basic stuff. always try to keep one sub in case of such scenarios. Gearoid's point towards the end was a gem as were Conor Madden's two. Argue was just short with one from distance I think too. Mackey hit the post with an easy enough free and we hit the post I think from play a few times too. It's lucky McBrearty wasn't playing or we wouldn't have got within 12 of them. The indiscipline in the tackle is shocking. We launch ourselves in to tackles and completely sell ourselves instead of jockeying. You don't see any other county doing it. I feel sorry for our keepers because they are hard-pressed to find a loose man from a kickout and they know if they go long it will come straight back at them. It was incredible how Murphy seemed to get almost every kickout either from a knockdown or a spill or directly. He ran the show. there are a few boys on ourteam who are just a red-card waiting to happen and they would want to sort that out because the top refs will not shirk responsibility and they will get the line. It's good to have passion but it's better to be in control.

Lane is apparently one of the top refs. .has refereed an all ireland final. .and he completely bottle the McVitty decision. He should've gone. Clarke shouldn't!

there's a lot of semi optimistic comments on this regarding the game. There are so many problems there its hard to single out just one. Players looked clueless the other night and I'm not fully blaming them. They just didn't seem to know what they were meant to do. Are Cavan fit? because the last night they didn't look near fit, they looked tired. I've came to the conclusion that they're lacking confidence. Its so easy to spot in the body language. Donegal the last night were standing up tall with their shoulders out while the cavan lads were hunched over, big men like Gearoid didn't stand out as he should for a man of his size. Where is all our stars from last year? Gearoid (still on the mend i know) Mc Veety, Martin Reilly, Killian, Corr, Ciaran Brady.......those lads were flying last year. you may say it was division 2 but they looked fit and confident. Management has to take some responsibility there. The Donegal team looked a different class altogether. why though? Because a lot of them lads played on teams beaten by Cavan!! Again regarding the game, what struck me was the difference in the speed of mind as well as physically and the transition into attack once cavan got as far as midfield was far far to slow. Madden and Mackey were the only players i seen that could move the ball at break neck speed into the scoring zone and we ended up getting scores of these attacks. Division 1 is the only division to learn anything and they'd want to learn fast because its all but definite it'll be division 2 next year

poor performance from an average team. Men v boys in my opinion. Gunner was favourite to win a ball in first half and stood back to let Donegal man win the ball and score. Watch the reply again. I think it was their 3rd score. Clarke deserved to go and mc Veety should have seen red also. There were a few nice scores but don't feel to optimistic after leaving breffni on Sat night. Tyrone will give us a master class this weekend. Div 2 next year and I don't seen an Ulster title for at least another 10 years. We're a very average Div 2 team.
