Think all the comments are premature. We never beat Donegal under Hyland either. Its easy to lash out from the armchair. The positives from tonight were padraig Faulkner (who terry destroyed confidence wise) last year and conor madden . The manager will learn from this. Hes tried out a lot of new players and still learning. Still alot of players especially forward wise to come back in ,so i think criticism v harch. Cavan will stay up . kupa (Monaghan) - Posts:129 - 04/03/2017 16:13:14 1963525 I have to reply to kupa's post. I have never disclosed information on this forum or any forum or verbally about Cavan senior team training or any other County team. First off I don't watch what the management do with the county players for it's none of my business so I am not in a position to comment on any players in training. Your post is an unfair statement towards me but I can take it from aliases. All I did yesterday was keep the supporters up to date regarding the pitch and not about any players. I don't give out and never have that I can recall given out information about training or players? I find you're post very upsetting and frustrating. You will not find any post either where I have I expect but if do feel free to inform me. By the way when you have time have a chat with Malachy O'Rourke your manager and he will tell you what he thinks of me and how passionate I am about the Cavan team and the County ground and I would do nothing to harm either. I have over time been very helpful to your team and manager hence the reason why your post upsets me. Even your former manager Banty. I bet you will be very surprised by their response. Very poor performance last night.we didn't seem to have a plan at all. Our discipline is poor. We don't have any forwards that can score from any distance. marita (None) - Posts: 469 - 05/03/2017 08:47:33 1963732 Link 0 |

The only time we played Donegal under Terry was when Val was gone so Terry only manager couple weeks so that arguement is null and void. Which forwards are to come in? Apart from Jack who isn't a guaranteed starter. Do you think it was good for Maddens confidence bringing him on against Dublin and of a few minutes later or taking Niall McKiernan of after a few minutes against Monaghan. I felt we needed a new manager but this is bizarre. Can you see any semblance of a game plan. Players playing a different position every week. We used to be solid at the back. But that's gone now.

That was a must win game as it was our most winnable home game. They should have gone out with a solid game plan and tore into Donegal. Instead it was unreal flat clueless stuff. The longer the game went on the more daft the positions players were occupying. And as for the new attacking play, well check the scores we put up last year and compare to our 1st three games. We have managed to destroy what we were good at last year without improving any other aspect. Positives were Madden was good when he had a go, Faulkner put himself about but that's about it.

On reflection I was furious last night feel let down by the players but lads the talent is there to turn it around and agree with the poster who says Faulkner and Madden the positives last night. Madden did well to come back from his previous appearance and worked very hard. Killian Clarke and Gearoid need their positions sorted. The manager needs some kind of strategic advisor to support him. He is obviously a committed passionate football man, he will get it right we need to be patient but he needs to get real and look st his whole panel. Already we are seein the auld favouritism nonsense in there again , it's the road to nowhere so Mattie needs to see that and get it sorted. shannon414 (Cavan) - Posts: 228 - 05/03/2017 10:47:05 1963766 Link 0 |

Clueless, kept going with a long kick, obviously not working and Donegal choked us up everytime. The same against Dublin. McGiolla (Cavan) - Posts: 42 - 05/03/2017 11:32:03 1963778 Link 0 |

Hard luck to the lads last night. There were a few good performances but overall unfortunately Donegal looked the faster, slicker and more clinical team. This Division was always going to be a learning curve and given our known limitations, nights like this were to be expected however ugly it is when it happens. We did battle well for a large part of the game despite what people are saying. We had plenty of the ball at times but no one to kick scores. Sending off left us with an up hill battle- whatever chance we have in this league we have with 15 players on the field. Second half, once the goal went in, mentally we gave up the ghost. I thought Donegal have some really classy players and took their scores well. Bit of speed and acceleration, take a man on to generate shooting space and bang. We looked laboured and uncomfortable in front of goals and frees were our most likely source of scores. Even high balls in to full forward line offered zero threat so we don't even have that option from last year. We need to move on from this and try put something up to Tyrone. Rory Dunne has been a solid full back for Cavan for a good while. Why mess about and put him at MIdfield., That might work in Division 4. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 05/03/2017 12:46:28 1963795 Link 0 |

It was always going to be a tough task to stay in this division, the new manager deserves time and support to find his feet, as someone said the right time to judge him is the end of the 2018 season. Having said that, his team selections are truly baffling. Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 05/03/2017 14:57:19 1963817 Link 0 |

It's also the indiscipline, fear of shooting, lack of physic and they don't look fit at all. Some players are clearly not up to the standard required. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 05/03/2017 16:01:46 1963850 Link 0 |

Well at least we found K Clarke and T Corr proper position last night.. If they push up a small bit there could also be room for M Reilly . Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 05/03/2017 16:06:07 1963853 Link 0 |

Yeah they failed they beat Donegal in 2012 when Donegal won Ulster and the All Ireland. and Cavan in Division 3. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2950 - 05/03/2017 16:15:45 1963862 Link 1 |

This indiscipline goes back a few years now . It was rife in THs time. But I felt the sending off worked in our favour last night as we now know K Clarke rightful position. I honestly feel the rest of the year in that position will do wonders for bringing the lad back to reality. Is Faulkner a full back? Midfielder? Or full forward? I couldn't really work it out last night. Whe I saw the number 3 and 14 lining up for the throw in at the start of the 2nd half I realised it could only happen in Cavan. There were a few lads out there that won't be county footballers even if they were out there for the next 20 years.,They just not cut out for it. We are not good enough for Div 1.. when we start beating the Monaghan and Donegal and Roscommon and the likes in the championship then we might beat them in the league. Mattie knows that hence the trying out lads in various positions It's amazing when he took over from a man who was there 4 and a half years we didn't have anyone settled in any main positions only Galligan. No regular full back, centre half or Centre forward despite having a long term manager previously. Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 05/03/2017 16:35:00 1963883 Link 0 |
