I remember the incident you're talking about. I was a good bit away but looked as though gunner thought a cavan man (can't remember who) was going to claim it, and was caught on his heels as a result. I'd be interested how many agree that Clarke deserved red. . .what offence will Lane put in the report? It was a trip (albeit high and at pace) and was a black card IMO. I think the melee that followed contributed which isn't fair on Clarke. Also, I haven't seen it again but I'm nearly sure the Donegal man threw the ball when he realised he was going to be challenged, knowing it was too late for Clarke to pull out. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 06/03/2017 11:22:49 1964431 Link 0 |

Its a pity Clarke did not get a black card instead of red, he wasn't playing well or hasn't for Mattie yet. By being reduced to 14 men it gave Mattie an excuse for being beaten, but we looked like we were heading that way even before the sending off, indeed that fact, plus the fact that he was having another poor day was probably the source of Clarkes frustration. Making him captain was a mistake IMO, but Mattie wasn't to know that, which is why he needs help from a number of strong local selectors. scotshouseAbu (Monaghan) - Posts: 3 - 06/03/2017 12:05:53 1964474 Link 0 |

I heard a lot of comments since Sat night that "we're better than that". This is rubbish. We are exactly where we belong now and where our performances deserve us to be. We are not fit, not physical enough and I don't mean dirty, not mentally right for these matches and seemingly we don't know what we are supposed to do on the field. Like lost sheep.

Saturday night was very disappointing. We got off to a bad start and never recovered. It seemed to me from where I was standing that we were all over the place positionally and I would also have worries about our fitness. Maybe Donegal are further on in their conditioning but it looked like we were sluggish. That can well be down to the conditions. Even the most optimistic of Cavan fans would struggle to think that we can survive now. We need to win our home game against Kerry and hope for a win against Roscommon. Even then I am not sure 5 points will be sufficient. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 357 - 06/03/2017 12:58:52 1964517 Link 0 |

As much as i enjoyed Matties postivity at the start I think its becoming a bit much. All this talk about learning is a bit frustrating to be honest. We have been in transition since 2012 its time we stood up became men and do the business. blueskies (Cavan) - Posts: 198 - 06/03/2017 13:05:53 1964526 Link 0 |

cavan people just have to face the facts we havnt got the players end off story we where run ragged the other night....a good few of the cavan players look over weight and not fit to run....its not all matties fault hes not playing on the feild im sure he does tell them have a pop and go for a score like they did in the 2nd half and scored a good few scores they just havnt the guts to take it on themselves and shoot....there wont be no ulster back in brefni anytime soon i wudnt think cavan14 (Cavan) - Posts: 32 - 06/03/2017 13:16:28 1964540 Link 0 |

Fair enough Sean you were a hell of a lot closer than I was, I was pretty much directly across from the incident on the terrace side. But what rule did Clarke break? Was it an attempted strike with force? That's the one most refs put down for an aggressive trip which I still think it was. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 06/03/2017 13:18:15 1964541 Link 0 |

How the referee reports the incident it will be interesting to see if the intentions were deliberate or accidental or pure frustration I suppose Killian can only answer this question ? we were lucky at least one other Cavan lad could have walked if not two. Anyway lets think positive there are 8 more points to play for thats the long and short of it. Okay we have four more games a possible 8 points yes 8 points lets decide to think positive get behind the management and team and hope that we can pick up 5 points it's possible with the right attitude that we can turn this season around starting next Sunday. Didn't post my opinion on Sat eve previously as was very disappointed leaving breffni. On reflection the performance was probably the poorest from this cavan team since Roscommon bet us in the qualifiers in 2015. We looked lethargic, leaderless & clueless. I would of assumed that with our break last weekend & Donegal having a tough game against the dubs that we would have been fresh & eager early on. However we have to support our team & management now & not just when we are winning. A few adjustments in my opinion can make us competitive again & while it is now unlikely that we will stay in div 1 will facilitate the teams development for the championship. bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 06/03/2017 17:49:34 1964726 Link 1 |

Sorry Sean, can you please clarify as like I said you were a lot closer to the incident than I was. How would you describe the foul? Yes, Dara McVitty should've been sent off. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts:2351 - 06/03/2017 18:02:46 1964732 In fairness I will not elaborate on this incident or any of the others but I expect what ever punishment is dished out there will be no point in appealing it thats all I can say. I hope you understand. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4602 - 06/03/2017 18:55:11 1964755 Link 0 |

The full back line probably only line that's had few issues probably because it's chopped and changed less.

Very good post bond and I fully agree on everything you said. I would have Rory back in at 3 . wasn't thinking about Falkner at 6 but could be the spot for him super player. Definitely bring k Clarke back half back again midfield the ruinination of him. Madden at 11 what do you think? And n Mckiernan at 14.

I don't think K Clarke will be available for the next two matches depending of the referees report.

Wudn't be sure about madden at 11 because I saw him few times last year when Gowna got to the qrt or semi of the championship & while he is big, strong & direct (qualities we need more of) I would like our centre forward to be more of a playmaker. Not sure who we have to play this role. Definitely not mcvitty or Martin Reilly. Would play madden corner forward

The positions outlined look to make a lot of sense, but the problem is we have seen these players lined out like this before and still coming up short. GMac has never dominated the midfield for Cavan, Rory is solid but can be done for pace, killian is a born half back but doesn't play with the method of a Peter Harte or James mccarthy. Granted faulkner could be a rock at no.6, but still where are the scores coming from? Young Argue needs time and coaching at 14 however he needs scorers in around him. Mattie has been trying things but we all seem to want more if the same!

I can't believe people are still talking about playing Michael Argue full forward. His confidence has been ruined by continuing to play him full forward. The dogs on the street know that he has not the physical strength or anything to play full forward. He needs to go back out midfield if he's good enough and let him play a bit of football again. I've seen him play at full forward for BBoro at IFC level and be completely ineffective, for Cavan on several occasions also. gowna02 (Cavan) - Posts: 99 - 07/03/2017 11:28:55 1964962 Link 0 |

Killian Clarke should play corner back it's where he has played his best football for Cavan.
