Replying To Reformation:  "To back that up, here would be my team for Omagh - assuming everyone is fit.

Galligan

Faulkner
Clarke
Moynagh
Brady
G McKiernan
Corr
Smith
McVeety
Reilly
Clerkin
McDermott
Johnston

Im open to the idea of Faulkner at centre half back but I am thinking about this game in particular and he needs to be in the full back line. Also, Killian Clarke to cover McCanns surging runs and wing half back is perfect place for him. Martin Reilly on the other side with the legs to back up Ciaran Brady in watching Peter Harte - thats assuming both of those lads start wing backs for Tyrone."
What about Conor madden? He was one of our better players sat night I'd have him in. Johnston will be no value Sunday against Tyrone mackey if fit would be way better.

Would agree with reformation on 11 out of 15 in personal on his team outlined for Sunday but with a few positional switches. However I agree 100% with him in that we have to get players settled into positions asap and this was my point a few days ago. My team would be;
Galligan
Reilly
Dunne
J Mcloughlin
K Clarke
Faulkner
Brady
McKiernan
Mccutcheon/o rourke
G smith
Moynagh
M Reilly
Mcveety
N McKiernan
C madden

As highlighted here earlier we ran Tyrone to 1 pt last year & had chances to beat them so let's go for it on Sunday by way of intensity, energy & controlled aggression. We have nothing to lose & let's get some confidence back in the team

I don't think Clarke will be available remember he got a straight red.
I would not go with your full team but it is your opinion.
Is Moynagh Fit? also Paul O'Connor, James McEnroe, J Mc Loughlin, Conor Madden, John McCutcheon, Joe Dillion Niall Murray to name just a few???

Assuming everyone is fit. I'd like to see Jason in as i thought Reilly was poor the last day on a fast forward. Also Jason if given the opportunity will get up for a score. The same can be said for a lot of the backs in there, Along with that i feel these are familiar positions to these players.
Gearoid has to get out of midfield. In centre forward he can surge from the left and conserve energy without the added worry of tracking back. that might sound odd but he's clearly not at full tilt yet . Maybe move him out for our kickouts.
To me thats a workmanlike midfield. Not the greatest of actual fielders but i wouldn't be as worried about that as Tyrones athleticism there. Leave Madden on the wing, he was the only man (until Mackey came on) that actually took on and beat his man. I think theres more in him too. The full forward line is relatively new for that line but if you have a target man along with two fast and brave players in Mackey and Mc Veety. Mc Veety brought a bit of life to the position the last day.
Anyway thats just me........

Like most posters on here I was disappointed with the performance on Sat night it looked as if Donegal had the 2 week break and not us. Perhaps we were playing at this pace last year in Div 2 but now we are being found out against better teams but what was plainly obvious was that a couple of players are not fully fit and some others are not county standard (not Div 1 standard anyway) The crowd was so quiet but got noisy when we got back to 6 - 3 - then Killian was sent off and with it our chances of winning.

Again like most posters i think our defence is not the problem but our attack and attacking options. I have said it before and ill say it again, why is our free taking so poor ..? Firstly missing 13 meter frees at this level is not on (happened against Monaghan as well) if there is a free and depending on who is starting it could be anyone out of galligan, mckiernan, mackey, mcdermott, johnston and at one stage m reilly was trying them from the ground ... how is there going to be any consistency if its different players all the time? Look at the top teams, Dublin have rock, Mayo have Oconnor, donegal have Murphy, Monaghan have Mcmanus, even if you look at the lower teams, Leitrim have Mulligan, Offaly have McNamee, Westmeath have Heslin ... granted there is probably a second player for left sided frees, long range frees or as cover for an injured player but not the five or six we have. As we seen with Cork last year, scoring difference could be vital to staying in this division. And I haven't even mentioned the fact that we don't look like scoring a goal!

Anyway on to Sundays game - ill get lambasted for saying this but perhaps we need to adopt a defensive style again then use our fast players to break ... i'd have Mcvitty, Smith and either macky or reilly on the 40 with an open field in front of them (if we turn it over and thats a big if) and as other posters said have a big, mobile man on the square to win ball with another forward playing off him as our plan b, it paid dividends in 2013 when we got to the quarter final with keating and dunne. I don't think we can go all out attack or man for man against Tyrone in Omagh so it will be interesting to see the tactics Mattie uses but one thing is for sure, i wouldn't be leaving the door wide open for Tyrone to attack as they are clinical when they do .. at least make them work for their scores. Anyway best of luck to the lads on Sunday

Does anyone else think it's blatantly obvious that we don't work on our kick outs?

Apart from Comerford in Tipp, Galligan probably has the best kickout in the country, but that's pointless if we don't have a strategy that allows a man to get free to take the ball.

Watch the league final from last year again and look how the Dublin backs pulled their men all over the place to free up a man for Cluxton to play it to. He gets plenty of plaudits, but it's the movement on front of him that makes him look good.

Yep. No point sugar coating it. Looked very bad at times Saturday night. No movement at all for kick outs. Result was a long punt down the middle but to add insult to injury it was 5 of their players to 1 Cavan player under the dropping ball and a simple knock down to win uncontested breaks for Donegal. Begs the question, where were all the Cavan players for the kickouts and unfortunately it looked like some of them were hiding.
We had plenty of bad days out under Terry but in fairness we always got a good reaction from players after a bad league result. I don't expect to beat Tyrone but we need to see some sort of reaction. You would hope Mattie has the ears of the players at least.

I said before the Donegal game we had to get the match ups right and what did we do? let Murphy laud it around the middle-he dictated the whole tempo of the game and we didnt lay a glove on him. When Dunne came on I thought he would be detailed to pick up Murphy or at least free up Faulkner to take him but neither happened. What was the plan? McVeety full forward I cant fathom either-granted he did ok but he's a wing back. Gerry Smith's best position is wing back too. m reilly is best at wing forward. give lads a chance-put them in their best positions and get the match ups right.

So for Tyrone-who is going to pick up Meyler, Harte, McCann, Cavanagh when he comes on. or will we let them do as they please?

I'd accept your point on Madden playing well last week and he looks like a man that could play himself into the team. I think its a toss up with him or Gerry Smith for a wing half forward position. I would stick with Johnston. Thats my opinion.

McVeety was full forward probably because he was on yellow and tick. So it was to keep him out of trouble.

Face it lads....we're not good enough, lack intelligence and quality - said before, when half the lads on your team have come up through the ranks playing Roinn D underage football, and the majority of their senior careers playing junior & intermediate with their clubs, how can you expect them to compete in Division one of the National League.

Its fine doing all this strength & conditioning, and looking good, but you cant train game intelligence, it comes naturally to most, and sadly for Cavan, only Johnston and a few others have it. Yeah, McVeety is fast, but most of the time, he runs into tackles, as does most of them. Mackey looks good on the ball, but thats in own half, when he gets by midfield, he gets dizzy and ends up losing the ball or turning back.

I believe Mackey feeding Johnston and Jack Brady from half forward line could work.
Mackey is of no benifit coming out of his own half back line .
I'd like to see the 2 Murrays either side of Faulkner at centre half back.

Might as well be idle putting in Johnston v Tyrone he won't even get to sniff the ball.

Johnston would be a better impact sub when playing against Ulster teams. He gets snuffed out too easily from the start .
Bringing him on gives him a freer role.
Jack Brady's pace is badly needed close to goal. I'd play Killian Clarke in corner back when he's availabe again as he seems lost when on the ball further afield .
The pace of the 2 murrays from the half back line would turn defence into attack quicker with Mackey and McVitty or Smith either side of Madden in the half forward line an option.
Someone like Argue needs to be left in full forward for 7/8 games to get the feel of the position. He won't make it his own in 1/2,games.

Not sure Clarke will be available ??
I think it's time to give others a chance I would think about the two Murray's also Paul O'Connor Niall McDermott Jason McLoughlin a big also for Joe Dillon . How will T Corr feel after last Saturday evening he had a job it would seem to man mark Murphy this did not work. Is he a midfielder his heart is for sure in the right place. How is John McCutcheon training I wonder. If it was my choice there would be wide scale changes give it a lash win or lose at least you will been seen to have tried. Lads is there a full match in Mackey he is after all not long back with us but I suppose only Himself will know if there is. Galligan has to be in goal with Faulkener FB thats for sure. Put the number 14 shirt on Gearoid but keep him there don't bring him out except if we are having trouble in MF. I wonder whats the story with Jack Brady and James McEnroe ???

Johnston is still one of our best forwards and if fit will play. If we go out with the attitude that our best players will be shackled and therefore we should not play them then we might as well not show up at all.

I still am lead to believe players can't be solely at fault here .. like i was never THs biggest fan sometimes but looking back we were harder to beat ..
I have heard from a couple of close sources(I'm not one to listen to shit either but I trust there taughts) that a selector is a bit of a bluffer and I agree been part of a few teams that were destined for success ..
Unless mattie has the right team around him were going no where.. positive attitude will bring u so far we need grit and know how
