Kicking 5 into the goalies hands with the wind behind you is unforgivable for a junior b team, never mind a county team.defence was good,Faulkner cud be there for ten more years, gaining experience all the time.as soon as james mc is fit,he shud go straight in,k brady not a county footballer.k clarke to me looks lost at midfield,Clerkin showing up well, nice point and always available.I like gearoid as a footballer but up to that leveller I though he was non existent up to that point and looks out of shape.Frustrating we didn't win but who knows that point cud keep us up at the end.need to get cian in Breffni 7 nights a week to get him up to speed.Im certain if we had him on the pitch today we'd have won

Our backs played very well today but we have no penetration up front. Our kuck outs didn't work as we didn't have a midfield. Why is Seanie Johnston playing so far outfield?
We were lucky to get the draw.

Mixed emotions after that. Positives are it's Great to get our first point on the table, huge effort by the lads, our defence was immense & I stated here last week that strength & determination would be required & we got it big time. Thought Faulkner handled Mcmanus extremely well, mcvitty's block was top class & thought the pre match changes of introducing mossy & Niall McKiernan were spot on. On the negative side we look clueless up front with no real attacking threat, we must have kicked at least 8/9 balls into beggans hands, very poor quality of football from both teams & why was McKiernan took off after 20 mins when I thought he was doing well & at least 3 of our other forwards could have went before him. With 2 draws over the weekend it's possible that 5 points just might be enough to stay up.

we seriously need a full forward that is sure of scoring at least 4 or 5 points a game....seanie is ok but he cant do it all himself, our backs are doing a mighty job midfield not so good but push gearoid back out there and it will be okay with argue back to full fitness...clarke sometimes yesterday was running around the place not knowing where to go he is lost! we just haven't the fire power upfront and thats how we are going to struggle agaisnt the big teams they will punish you in the end

well that's 70 mins of my life that i'll never get back. Brutal stuff from both teams. Only saving grace was I has a short drive home.
Missed chances, bad decisions, school boy errors kicking short.
Should have been out of sight after 20 mins instead we only had 2 points on the board.

Like all other posters above, I agree that our defence was very good today. I like the look of the full back line and we were very good in the tackle. Faulkner really put down a marker today and he is someone who we can rely on at this level. He seems a pretty grounded lad as well which is refreshing after hearing how others on that team don't share his modesty. We seemed to struggle at midfield and while our lads worked hard, we didn't win dominance. That being said, we created far more chances and we really should have left Castleblaney with 2 points and importantly inflicting a loss on our cherished neighbours. I was very disappointed with our finishing and it was not acceptable to have so many shots into the keepers arms. I think we need more from some of our forwards in terms of scoring. I'd be worried about the trip to Omagh in 2 weeks and it looks like a tall order for us based on what happened over the weekend for them and for us. We will battle on and another 2 weeks may bring back a few of our wounded soldiers.

Really disappointing to see how many of you have turned on Killian Clarke and others and the general negativity already being peddled two games into Division 1 with a new manager. A fickle bunch.

Yeah, omagh is going to be a big challenge and a very different one from either of the past 2 games. Tyrones real threat comes from out the field so is harder to curtail.
We will need to man mark Peter harte and niall sudden. Will matty donnelly be fit?
We definitely need galligan back or Colm cavanagh will clean us out at midfield. I'd agree with moving gearoid out there and maybe starting mossy but have either of them got 70mins in them at full tilt?

Team should look like:

Galligan

Reilly
Faulkner
Clarke

Mcveety
Moynagh
Reilly

Gearoid
Mossy

Smith
Mckiernan
Murray

Clerkin
Argue
Seanie

Would love to have Givney to put in there at full forward. I don't know, maybe Paul O'Connor is worth a start? Or Joe dillon? Tyrone said they were caught by surprise last year in the drawn game with givney and Clarke in there so I think we need something different again. Argue worth a shot.

Gearoid won't have a full game at mf. Struggles for full game when fully fit there. Maybe try Niall McKiernan there and Gearoid can drop in for kick outs.

How many times do you need to see mick argue at full forward to realise its a waste of time?
Good player don't get me wrong but not a full forward, wing forward or midfield. full forward doesnt suit him and it's unfair playing him there. he hasnt the upper body strength. also thought ciaran brady had a good game yday got himself into great positions but failed to convert on a couple of times

Honestly cant argue with you. But like I said we do need someone different.

Gearoid maybe, but have we anyone else who can compete with cavanagh at midfield?

Nobody has turned on anyone .. Clarke seems to be finding it difficult in around the middle partly due to him wanting to do too much on his own. He needs to lay the ball off quicker as does G Mc Kiernan.,

why did you think the game yesterday was a show case performance, by either team ?
It was brutal stuff and if you thought otherwise you're easily pleased.
Both teams were bad.
As for the previous week, Dublin could have destroyed us if they wanted to. They were in on goal a few times and flicked it over the bar.
It's a big step up from Division 2 but then again, the experience will stand to us when we're back there next year as it will take at least 6 points to survive and honestly, I can see them coming from Tyrone, Mayo, Donegal or Kerry when we didn't pick up 2 from a Monaghan team who were mis-firing.

Everyone has mentioned Michael Argue as an option at some stage but no comments from anybody whether he is in the squad or long term injured. Any update on Liam Buchanan injury.

How was Seanie left on the pitch . The 2 frees he missed were criminal. In a tight game . 21 yards out from goals omg. Then he ran back to the full back line to take a free. Why did we not get scores hmm mm let me think . Maybe because 4 out of the six starting forwards were backs . If Martin Reilly is not able to play as a forward then he should be on the bench . Killian clarke should have been taken off also . Mossy is gone past it . Ray Cullivan the best midfielder in the county by a mile should be called back in and started in midfield. He also can score. This was 2 points dropped. You have to take your chances when you get them . 2 frees in front of goals 21 yards out. Missed an easy one v Dublin.

At the same time, one must remember that we really don't have a settled team and we're missing several experienced players. How many debutants have we had in just two games? That was close to Monaghan's best team and they couldn't beat us. Our defence is outstanding, but Smith and McVeety need to do more scoring. Also, I think Martin Reilly and Conor Moynagh need to swap positions.

Anyone else think the "tackle" on Moynagh was foul play? I have my suspicions.

It was a foul surely and there was a certain black card foul on Killian clarke,.

There was a clear foul on McKiernan near the end which Coldrick didn't give either. He doesn't give us much anyway.

A point dropped for definite. It was like watching two drunk lads fighting outside the chipper at 3am on Saturday night- full of frustrated effort, intense for those involved, but laughable for anyone watching on.
Why was Mckiernan taken off so early? Monaghan seemed to be unsettled by the two big men up front. Gearoid needs to run around more. Its that simple.
Mcdermott did well enough tearing into lads around the middle but we were otherwise cleaned out in there. I had thought he was, but its clear now that Killian Clarke is not a midfielder, attacking wing back maybe. The less said about the shooting the better. We seem to have a lot of fairly good options off the bench but no very good ones.
Monaghan were muck yesterday but played for 10 minutes each half and looked more like winning than Cavan did. Id say their average age was the same or actually lower than ours so I don't buy this old v new talk- we are in Div1 and there are no excuses now. It is a bit worrying especially with Tyrone up next who will be raring to go.

2 points dropped??? How you work that out? Think your watching too much premiership!
