Unfortunately I can't see Cavan winning a game not sure were scores will come from Johnston / McDermott are as slow as snails ... This will be shown up when the ground gets harder jackser (Meath) - Posts: 37 - 10/02/2017 20:46:32 1954523 Link 0 |

Nudie is a legend .....McManus is from a different era. I don't care who marks him, but I want that particular duel to be honest and within the rules regardless of the result. Let skills win. ExiledCuCu (Cavan) - Posts: 311 - 10/02/2017 21:11:14 1954533 Link 0 |

manzy? your from monaghan...ot dublin McManus is unmarkable most days so maybe cavan need to concentrate on outscoring Monaghan than stopping one man from scoring. If Mattie does what he said he would do and play his forwards as forwards instead off 12 behind the ball like against Dublin, then the monaghan backs will have to defend instead off getting a free pass up to our half back line wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1754 - 10/02/2017 22:32:36 1954556 Link 0 |

sceptical, well of course they are superior to us as a football team at the moment, they are regularly contesting Ulster finals and have been ulster champs twice recently, they have beaten us in the ulster championship on the most recent occasions too. They are in Div 1 longer than we are and are just after beating Mayo (the second best team in the country). So why wouldn't they expect to beat us. It's not being arrogant or surerior, it's being realistic. The bookies have them odds-on too so I don't get your point. Of course they will not be complacent or take us for granted as they know it will be a hard-fought game but a Cavan victory would be an upset, a very pleasant upset. Get real !

Gosh, do you really think that Mossy could mark him. I may be wrong but I don't think Mossy can turn quickly enough. McManus is very quick to turn when he gets the ball and can twist you in knots. I think Faulkner would be a better option or even Martin Reilly.

Best of luck to Mattie and the boys tomorrow. Let see some of the mistakes from last week being cut out resulting in an improved performance. If we get that we might just get the win!

Don't know why people are obsessed about Mc manus. Who is going to mark the Hughes brothers and keep with the speed of Karl o connell and also keep an eye on Conor Mc carthy who I expect to have a big game this week after scoring 1-2 for UCD in the sigerson midweek. Whereas Monaghan have all star coner backs to stop the Johnston's and Mc dermotts. Mc manus is not going to be the problem it's the men around him that's the problem. He scored 6 out of 1-11 in mayo 4 from frees. Monaghan didn't win Ulster with only 1 Man they have top quality around the pitch so keep focusing on Mc manus while the rest run rings around yous. monaghanmad (Monaghan) - Posts: 528 - 11/02/2017 11:31:42 1954663 Link 2 |

He might start McKiernan at full forward.

The pace of Karl o connell? There are about 4 of our players faster than him. Dont make me laugh we will have too much pace for Monaghan tomorrow and Mc manus wont get more than 5 points and thats poor for his standards. As for the Hughes brothers K clarke will mark Darren of the field and Kieran will be well monitored. If mc gleenan decides to play mckiernan in full forward he will have a 5 inches advantage over drew wylie so ur telling me yis are going to beat us??

Very defensive team selection again from 2 - 12 there is one forward and he is selected at wing back. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 892 - 11/02/2017 17:18:14 1954782 Link 0 |

Agreed. Instead he seems to be playing Gearoid, our best ball carrier and runner from deep, at full forward with his back to goal. A position he has never played in for any significant length of time and one that nullifies his best attributes. I would also question the wisdom of leaving McEnroe and Mossie on the bench. Two of our most experienced and effective players. McGleenan needs time to put his mark on the team but change for the sake of change is not a good idea. There was so much improvement in Cavan last year in certain elements of our play, particularly our kickouts and attacking play, which seems to have been done away with now. If we need to take a step back to take a step forward, I'm fine with that. We just have to hope he knows what he's at. If we lose tomorrow our league campaign is as good as over. I really hope the management and players go after this game with all they've got. Best of luck to Mattie and the boys tomorrow!! I think McDermott was very poor the last day - as was Rory Dunne ( don't know how he keeps his place ) tenyearplan (Cavan) - Posts: 149 - 11/02/2017 19:06:48 1954826 Link 0 |

Am surprised by that team selection. Thought we would have introduced some more attacking threat in the form of O'Connor or Dillon or Argue. Scorers are crucial and we can't just expect Seanie to do all because he going to be very closely marked. Maybe there will be changes before the game starts. Huge game for us & if we can match the effort levels of last week & cut out the stupid mistakes in kicking the ball away & the same players constantly carrying the ball into tackles we have a great chance. Strength & determination vital tomorrow & maybe mossy would be ideal to battle it out with the Hughes around midfield at some stage. Crazy talk on here of him marking Mcmanus !!!! Anyway here's hoping Mattie uses his Monaghan club football knowledge & gets the match ups right. Best of luck to management & the team.
