You cannot make a timid play more aggressive.

A big, very athletic lad who covers a lot of ground but seems very ineffective at this level. His foot passing is poor and seems to take the wrong option a lot of the time and gives away a lot of frees."
Cornerback, has fast hands, fast feet and long arms. was always his best position but may be ruined by all the moving about and attention he gets. All seems to have gone to his head.

I always taught that the full back line was his spot in 2013 he had some year at corner back, a other poster called joebe said that .months ago and he was ridiculed

Replying To doratheexplorer:  "So your dropping Reilly who held Mannion scoreless?"
Yes I am. Its about getting the best players into each line of defence. I think that in the big games last year, this line of defense stood up well. If i were to change then I would put Clarke a wing half back but not midfield. Early days for Reilly and he did nothing wrong.

I think the match against Monaghan net Sunday will be switched to Clones.
Blaney is too small and there's feck-all parking available.

Unfortunately I don't think so. We shouldn't be playing any county games there. In Monaghan we are reputed to have the best club grounds in the country but our most successful club, Castleblayney Faughs, lagged way behind even our junior clubs until very recently when at last they built a stand. We should play all our games in Clones or Iniskeen which caters for south of county. And of course parking dreadful in blayney so apologies to our visitors from Cavan. May the best team win !

It's all tactical lads.

They're running scared. Can't be holding the game in clones where the Cavan team is so used to playing.

Wouldn't be surprised if a fuel smuggling check point was to delay the Cavan team reaching the ground.

I don't know what the issue is Monaghan have been well known for taking matches far away as possible to disrupt the apposing team Inniskeen springs to mind, so what's the problem. If money was the issue at headquarters they should insist that a pitch capable of coping with an expected crowd of supporters off course they will not now be able to get into this grounds for I suppose it's too late or they cannot intervene.
Best way to kick it back is to go out there on the pitch and beat them.

I would imagine that very few of the county lads read these threads but even the supporters need to feed off the general dismissal of our chances against our enemy at the weekend. The entire county can feed off this on Sunday. Not only are monaghan arrogantly dismissing us, as evident from o rourkes comment about coming back down to earth. In other words respect the team they believe to be inferior. The majority of posters from other counties are also tipping monaghan. Since when do we lay down for them? Make this a war. Do whatever it takes, fair or foul to beat some much needed humility into them.

The match will be switched lads, simple logic says Blayney won't take the numbers. A few quare conspiracy theories on here about not playing it Clones. Moving league matches around between blayney, clones, scotstown and more recently inniskeen has been going on for years in monaghan.
We played cork and donegal last year for example, and I'm sure some of you lot have been at cavan monaghan championship matches there too.
That said it still looks like a major miscalculation of interest in the game by the county board.

So instead of making tinfoil hats, use it instead to make some ham sandwiches and bring them with you to Clones on Sunday. Something tells me you will enjoy them sitting along the Ballyhaise/Cavan road at about 4pm with 2 points in the bag.

Awwwwnow is definetly deanmartin no.2.
Someone above got there before me but again, anybody with a clue would know Gerry Smith was away in America for the summer before last and broke his leg in the process, thus missing from the squad. Hard for Hyland to overlook him when he's in a hospital in San Francisco.

Not sure that Malachy was being arrogant regarding next Sunday's match against Cavan my interpretation of his reply was that they Monaghan need to come down from the high they are in after beating Mayo and concentrate on their next match that to me is showing Cavan respect.

Sceptical does be on the Monaghan forum regular spouting poison. Only last week I put up a comment about Monaghan being able to nick the points down in Mayo due to the absence of a a few key players. What followed was a childish comment about "Mayo beating Monaghan out the gate".
O'Rourke was very respectful in his comment and mostly on the money. Cavan are targeting this game so is Monaghan and let the best team win on Sunday.

I didn't take O'Rourkes words as arrogance but we will need to use everything that we have to get an edge for Sunday.

This is a massive game for us and will have a huge outcome in the direction of our season. We have to take something from it. I fear that if we lose then the propect of a trip up to Omagh on 26th needing a win will be all the more daunting. We have no divine right to go to Monaghan and win and we know thateven though they have been more consistent than us and playing at a higher level, we always put in a big shift against them. If we cannot rise to playing our biggest rivals on their turf in an important game at the top tier then there is something wrong.

Now is the time for new leaders to put down a marker. We need men to show and step up. The underage thing is done for us and we now need our senior men to show for us lead by our captain and followed by some others. We have good players and are in division one because we deserve to be. Our lads should be chomping at the bit for Sunday without any fear. We need a cold blooded performance and we need to be clinical. We have it in us. Now is the time to put down a marker.

I agree with you in most of what you say and admire and share your positive attitude towards our county teams. However, i disagree on this point. I believe that Malachy O Rourke and the people of Monaghan are convinced of their superiority over us as a football team. They have an outstanding forward in McManus who can win most games on his own. They also have a good supporting cast in the Hughes brothers, Mone etc. They believe, no matter how much they play this down, that they will win on Sunday. Now they may well win but their arrogance is not in question nor is their belief in their superiority over us. I know you have made good lengths to integrate into the county. However, i do not believe that you understand how strong the rivalry is between real football fans in both counties. Nothing would please us as a county more than beating them in their own back yard.

I expect sceptical I am longer around Cavan than many that post on here. I understand rivalry we have it with Kerry and Tip but it's a friendly rivalry with us however maybe not here I don't know.
Monaghan I have no doubt expect to beat Cavan and they have every right to think this and it's the same with the Cavan lad's they also feel they are well capable of turning over Monaghan and rightly so, for if they were negative they may as well stay at home.

Why wouldn't we be quietly sure we have beaten Mayo in Castlebar and have beaten Cavan in every meaningful game in the last few years. Only obvious that monaghan people build up a cockiness for this fixture as Cavan have always failed at the biggest challenge. I expect Cavan to be difficult sunday as this is the game they would have targeted in their heads as winnable ( Forget about dublin everyone knew yous would struggle there). If Cavan cant beat Monaghan Sunday they will never beat Monaghan in my opinion.

Or how about if we curtail McManus we'll beat Monaghan just like we always beat them before this once in a lifetime player came along.

He has 2-3 years left in him at this level and Monaghan will fall quickly back into Cavan's shadow after that.
