A lot of negative comments here but I dont think that we need to be too dispondent. We came up against a fantastic Dublin side who have now gone 30 games unbeaten. Now, I know we have a few optimists in the forum here, myself included, but it was always going to be a tall order. I know that we are disappointed and i actually felt an air of optimism coming into the ground and to be fair we went toe to toe with them for most of the first half. Can't see what Killian Clarke's position is - got roasted against Armagh at Full-back last year, clearly not a midfielder. A big, very athletic lad who covers a lot of ground but seems very ineffective at this level. His foot passing is poor and seems to take the wrong option a lot of the time and gives away a lot of frees.

we were let off the hook yesterday. Dublin never got out of 2nd gear and twice they should have netted. FrDougalMaguire (Cavan) - Posts: 152 - 06/02/2017 09:26:08 1952551 Link 0 |

i agree with a lot of peoples opinions on here and tbf everyone seems to be realistic about how that game would pan out. I dont think either teams hit even close to top gear and herein is where i pick the positives from the negatives. first of all Cavan gifted Dublin 6-7 scores from loss of primary possession, carrying the ball into tackles being needlessly overturned and through general panic like Mc Dermots free and Mc Veety's carrying into tackles. there was a lot of poor performances from some of cavans key players which i dont think we'll see again. the kickouts were poor but i think with a fit Galligan that can be rectified. i think that a lot of cavans kickout mistakes were due to still playing in Division 2 mode. Short kickouts worked well last year as there wasn't much pressure from the inside line but yesterday it was intense pressure as soon as the ball was in hand leading to a number of mistakes and turnovers. they' ll have learned an awful lot from that game yesterday, couple that with the fact Mattie knows Monaghan inside out I'd be hopeful of a good result. theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 06/02/2017 09:40:03 1952566 Link 0 |

Anyway, I am optimistic heading into next weekend. It is now a massive game for us but I think it will be close. Lets hope that we can get at least a point and move on with this campaign. Cheer up everyone, we are back and a long way to go. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts:227 - 06/02/2017 07:31:38 19 ARE YOU If anything comes from this game yesterday I hope it's a positive one. Instead of training this week bring all the players and management into a room and watch this match at least four times and note how Dublin worked the ball moved it forward moved it back moved it across until they opened the door it did not look bad because they distributed the passes by foot and by hand which made it easier on the eye. If they learn from that brilliant. I hope to god they realise certain players cannot play in certain positions and also get them to be more user friendly. It's not all about one man it's about fifteen + It will be no easier next Sunday and I doubt that James McEnroe will be fit by the looks of things yesterday I hope I am wrong. Good luck next Sunday to all involved. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4602 - 06/02/2017 11:37:48 1952637 Link 0 |

Sean, it was great to see the old stadium so full for a Cavan league game in February, it must have filled you with pride to see such a day. In tribute to Dublin they played 10 out of the 15 who started in the All Ireland and of the 5 who did not start, one was man of the match yesterday and the other was player of the year in 2015. They were better than us and they were 7 points better than us but they are better than most teams by that kind of number. They are on a thirty match unbeaten run and if they can extend that run to 50 games, they will, if they can beat you be 10 points they will, indeed if they can beat you by 16 or more they will, Kildare supporters know this only too well. This is the beginning of the new manager's term and by the end of the League we will be an improved team. We have to take the positives out of the game and there were many. We have to build on the positives and move on. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 06/02/2017 12:30:54 1952676 Link 1 |

kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts:407 - 06/02/2017 12:30:54 1952676 Yes off course it was fantastic to see a huge crowed on the first week of February and it does give you a sense of pride to see things looking so good and standing up well to the game also. It fills your heart also to listen too two groups of respectable supporters when scores were made and during play. Yes in deed it was obvious who and why Dublin are All Ireland champions aren't they a joy to watch. Yes off course something will be taken from this match by management I hope and to realise we Cavan have to up our game intensity by another 50% at least. I feel no team in Division 1 will beat the Dubs so for Cavan that will be good news. I fully understand the Boss has to learn from this and hopefully see who are up to the standard as a starting fifteen if you know what I mean. If I may from a neutrals observation, did Cavan struggle about what to do once they entered the Dublin half of the pitch. I felt they did and were not sure what to do next so I expect they will have learnt from this and move forward. Here is something that supporters may have missed but when I was on the pitch at half time the sun was glaring so hard into my eyes I had to shadow my eyes with my left hand to see any divots heading towards the electronic score board end, supporters at the town end will have struggled to see what was going on because of the sun for most of the second half. This did not effect Dublin so much as it was shining in from the left hand corner but by the time the second half started the sun was very close to off center shining directly into the Cavan lad's eyes up the pitch. This I attribute to the simple free being missed it was that intense. This might be a point worth nothing. Monaghan next week so the best of luck to all involved. I thought Mattie might have put McKiernan in full forward when he came on and kick it into him. Seanie and Smith were doing damage when they got the ball but didn't get enough of it. Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 06/02/2017 13:46:23 1952717 Link 2 |

I know its early days and people can talk about certain players but there was a lot of naivety in the way we played yesterday. Its harsh but at the same time this is the level we should be aiming for. For all the talk about a new system we went back to the defensive system of about 2-3 years ago and didn't even play it right. As for people talking about players taking the ball into the tackle, its the same old..Players take the ball into the tackle when there is no outlet and in truth we had no outlet or ball winners up front for most of yesterday. ponger (Cavan) - Posts: 616 - 06/02/2017 16:50:34 1952870 Link 0 |

Just because a player plays in a position for his club doesn't mean he is suited to that position for county ,, if that was the case sure put Mc Loughton in midfield for Cavan he plays there for his club , or Galligan

Getting players to adapt to a new position on a pitch takes time with many but I agree with you 100% if they have what Cavan need in midfield why now. I agree with you goonie, some players play in totally different positions for clubs, not in a life time could you play mcloughlin midfield like club but he's a good corner back for county.

If we want to play with so many men behind the ball we need full forwards who can win the ball. tom84 (Cavan) - Posts: 337 - 06/02/2017 19:46:47 1952966 Link 0 |

Johnston and McDermott are not those players and we need to keep at least one player on the half forward line tom84 (Cavan) - Posts:119 - 06/02/2017 19:46:47 1952966 I hope to god that the negative football is dead and buried let's move forward and be positive. Even though we lost yesterday I don't think many if any left the park disappointed. You have to admit it was enjoyable wasn't it.
