I thought the dubs and the supporters were great today my favourite supporters by a mile ,I was hoping to keep in within 3 or 4 points of them , Div 1 will be hard to stay in. I think but Dublin will more than likely beat all or nearly all the other teams ,so with that in mind it could of been worse ,I thought we done great not to concede any goals ,im afraid we defiantly lacked speed and were bamboozled by some of Dublin's forward play at times . we did get through plenty of times and that gives us something to work on and Johnston looked good in front of goal but it did highlight some players that needs to do a lot more to compete at this level .Mc cutchen ,mc dermott and moynagh I felt didn't adapt to that level .moynagh in a few occasions had acres of space to run on in front to give us a forward pass option but hung back ,mc cutchen and mc dermott were never really in the game ,like others I think mc loughan would be a good option next time out. this gives us a better understanding of where we are ,but there's a lot of dog fights if we are to survive .all in all no surprises. Lots of work to do, not too disappointed and I wouldn't be surprised if Mattie makes some of changes next time out . bisto kid (Cavan) - Posts: 492 - 05/02/2017 18:29:22 1952228 Link 0 |

Respectable outing. Don't know what people were expecting, we lack top forwards and we're missing Givney. No manager in the world is going to change that fact. In an open game against the Dubs if you cannot keep the score board ticking over they will be out of sight within 15 minutes. You don't need to go out gung-ho first half and make a show of yourself to know this. Let's see what this manager and team are capable of before writing them off. Monaghan next week will tell a lot. And there will be plenty more winnable games to judge Matty's team on whether it be this year or next. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 05/02/2017 18:35:36 1952235 Link 0 |

Id put Rory back into full back, stick faulkner on McManus and maybe McEnroe in front of him. I wouldn't trust McEnroe to man mark or to hold the centre back position so if he's to play at all that's the role for him.

I don't think we done too bad, what do people expect Dublin haven't been beaten in 30 games, I taught Dublin played at a fast pace the level of condition and skill is high but we can get there, its good to be playing at this level compared to div 3 or div 4 to learn

I'd be benching Rory. Maybe put Fergal Reilly on McManus. Impressed with his marking job today. Was constantly annoying his forward and kept them all scoreless. Although McManus is another level. Might need to double or treble mark him.

Lots of effort & commitment by the lads today. Huge work rate up to 60 mins stage at least but we were definitely fortunate that the dubs missed so many chances especially the second half & seemed to be in second gear for most of the game. We were punished every time we gave ball away stupidly & over carried it. Positives are the performances of Clerkin, smith, Johnson, Faulkner & Clarke, while great to see Gearoid back so quickly. Will be a steep learning curve & next weekend is going to be extremely tough but we have to match Monaghan's physicality and hopefully Mattie's experience of their club football will help us get our match ups Right bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 05/02/2017 19:28:01 1952284 Link 0 |

I don't believe anyone we have can shackle Mc Manus. The best way to try and lessen his influence on the game is to retain possession of the ball when we have it and not kick it away like we did today. Keep it away from him. By all means put a no-nonsense speedy player on him. One who can tackle and get goal side of him but that won't guarantee success against him. He's one of a kind. They have other good forwards too. Pretty sure I saw McEnroe limping heavily out of the pre match warm up so doubt he will feature next week. Faulkner is only back with the pace and strength to somewhat match McManus, assuming Clarke will be midfield. Next weekend is make or break for us. No points there is almost certain relegation. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1485 - 05/02/2017 21:05:38 1952403 Link 0 |

Poor show today , i actually taught before the game that the team named was just a dummy team , strange line out ,the team that finished the game for Cavan was a stronger one than started , we let Dublin win there kick outs ,then blasted ours down the middle to our poor choice of midfielders , k clarke is a full back , corr should have been mid field , 5 of the players that started today has to be dropped for the next game goonie (Cavan) - Posts: 312 - 05/02/2017 21:45:23 1952441 Link 0 |

Agree 100 percent Sean. Go and watch Shercock and see his position.

Nothing much to take from today's game apart from a good show from Smith...and to a lesser extent Clerkinwho tried hard... someone needs a word in McVittys ear to stop him carrying the ball into tackles he is not fit to break...he was turned over about 5 times.. We solo the ball too much instead of moveing it quickly with foot passes... We can't be too dispondent as we didn't really expect to get anything out of today's game but next week is a totally different story... A must win game Sean.66 (Cavan) - Posts: 293 - 05/02/2017 23:15:08 1952491 Link 0 |
