Antrim Hurlers 2020

(Oldest Posts First)

Bit late in the year to be starting this thread but the hurlers have been in excellent form this year. Unbeaten in the league including a thumping win over recent nemesis Meath, beating Kerry in Munster and again last week in the final.

Now we've hammered another good side in Westmeath who have beaten us regularly in the last few years. With Div 1 hurling secured next year we now have the chance to get ourselves back into the Liam McCarthy by winning the McDonagh cup.

Come on Aontroim

What's not to like. A deep, united county panel buying into the management strategy and style.
They toughed it out against Kerry and showed an exciting brand of hurling against Westmeath yesterday that had me very excited for the next year or two. I probably wasn't the only one who was apprehensive before yesterday's game but credit to every single member of the panel and backroom staff. They showed any amount of skill, determination and kept to their game plan.

There will be bumps in the road but wow after yesterday!
Lets get Casement built!

Folks

Antrim v Kerry in Corrigan Park 14th November.

Was thinking of driving up to it.

Would it be possible to see in over a wall or a gap in a ditch anywhere to see the match?

Well done Saffs today.
1st half performance as good as we have played for manys a day.
Slack in the first 10 mins of second half but the scoreboard probably flattered Kerry, who are no pushovers.
Onwards and upwards.

2-30 is an excellent score. We're in the final now against Kerry. We've beaten Kerry three times already in 2020 and I'm a little nervous as it's unusual for one team to beat another four times in one year.

But this is the big one and we have to do it. Div 1 hurling and getting back to the Leinster championship would be a fantastic year for Antrim hurlers.

Regardless of the outcome of the final, which of course we want to win, it is only right to pay tribute to all of those who make our games possible, from players, mentors, admin people all the way through to the technical guys who streamed games so that we could all watch in the comfort of our front rooms. Particular credit to Meath GAA for Saturday. What an entertaining commentary that was, with the wags bringing some light entertainment to proceedings.

I for one have been engrossed in the progress of this Antrim team this season and really looked forward to watching the action. Even in these very difficult times the dedication from everyone is clear. We should never lose sight of the fact that this is an amateur game and the commitment required these days is unconditional. So major respect to all.

Can't wait for the final.

Antrim Abu!

Fantastic what a year for the Saffs! Division 1 hurling secured and now back in the Liam McCarthy cup. Well done Darren Gleeson and the panel.

We've now beaten Kerry five times in a row. Antrim will have no fear of the likes of Wexford, Laois or Dublin in the Leinster championship. Some home games would be nice!

Well done on winning the Cup. You will hopefully, covid allowing, have a full league of div1 opponents to get ready for the championship too. Not sure why you would be fearing Kilkenny or Galway though? At the end of the day playing against better opponents can only be good for individual players. Imagine what could be learnt from playing on TJ Reid or Joe Canning regularly!

Lads, sincere well done on your fantastic win yesterday.

It is great to see Antrim back at the top table and we look forward to doing battle with you in 2021.

Seeing an Antrim team play so well in Croker was a throwback to 89 and Antrim's heroic performance to beat Offaly.

Well done, mighty stuff.
