And the replay showed why Loughrey was such a massive loss to us when he left for Cork.

He'll certainly be the best brand in Gaelic football with the gooch and Bernard Brogan ageing, he's only a few years into senior football I doubt many kerrymen are taking this thread seriously, he's in the top 5 with Murphy, Connoly, Gooch and McManus

Ye already have 2 Kerrymen in Aidan and Seamie O'Shea so we won't be giving ye the footballer of the year as well.

And Kerry captained by a Tyrone man?

I think James O'Donoghue is an immense talent but why oh why do people (Kerry people) feel the need to compare him to A, B and C when he is still developing as a player and hopefully will only get better. The abuse he received the other day on Twitter for being named MOTM was scandalous considering such a decision was out of his hands and he had quite a good game. The way Gaelic is going nowadays forwards need to be able to think on their feet and try and contribute to the team as best as possible if they are being snuffed out by a blanket defence or even an excellent man marker. For me O'Donoghue does so much for the team all round even when he is not chipping the ball over the bar himself. As for the other great forwards in the game. Connelly is excellent, Paddy McBrearty (uninjured) is an exciting talent who like James is still developing. M Murphy rarely plays the number 14 role but when he did, excelled also. Cillian O'Connor is fantastic who still isn't getting the recognition I think he deserves. McManus for Monaghan is just something else too who can win games alone! With all the talk of blanket defences etc there are still lots of exciting forwards in our game capable of turning games on their head alone!!!

Big sacks
He's half a Tyrone man as his mom is from Tralee but the o'sheas are 100% Kerry as their mom and dad are both killorglin people, also Donal Vaughan is a cork man.

JOD is a class act but he still is young and only learning. However I hope he can continue to prosper as he has big boots to fill with the retirement of the truly great Declan O'Sullivan.

Poor Dec always seems to get forgotten when talk turns to great modern Kerry forwards. JOD may have stolen the limelight last year but Declan's performance against Cork was one of the greatest displays I've ever seen from a Kerry footballer.

P.S. Did that Mayo fella honestly say he'd rather have Cillian O'Connor; bizarre, unprecedented, grotesque, unbelievable!

If any of you were manager of Monaghan would you swap McManus for O'Donohue or even Connolly for that matter ie if they had to do it on their own with two men hanging out of ya?

Obviously have to show loyalty towards Connoly , but have to say if there were a transfer market McManus worth his weight in gold ,

Nearly forgot to mention McManus, best corner forward in the country right now!

I love watching JOD play. He is direct, confident & stylish. Thought he had a good game the other night, he took on alot of ball but I also think his marker can be impressed with his performance, only restricting James to one point all game. I also think the impact of Cooper was over hyped, yes he did help create the goal, but he didn't get on much ball. I love the Gooch as much as anyone but hes a long way off his top form just yet

Not in the same parish as gooch or Maurice Fitz - depends too much on pace at the minute - but could develp. No better sight than seeing the balance of gooch as he throws a few dummies and lands it over...hope we see him back doing it before the year is out because it will be key to us if we want to retain sam!

To be great you have to be scoring consistenly , 0-1 on Saturday 0-1 in the all-Ireland final,
the term playmarker is another one of these 'terms' which are banded about...... he's a good player.... but sometimes good players look better in good teams.... how well would he play for Armagh with our negative brutal tactics - would he be great, good or average....the team you are in has alot to do with it... would Jamie Carke get on the Kerry team ???? how would he do???
Benny Coulter was a great forward for Down -never won a senior medal ( apart from McKenna Cup) but most of his football was played with poor teams - if he was in a better team would his status being higher..
Greg Blaney was one of the best players i ever saw , but for the first 10yrs of his inter-county career he won little and most didn't know about him as Down were poor...
the list is endless
in im opinion if James was born in Belfast ... we wouldn't be talking about him..... where you are born at times depends on how 'great you are' not your ability!!!!

On current form Aidan O'Shea is the best forward in the country!

Id swap him for both McManus and Connolly put together. Much more of a player that gets you on the edge of your seat. Was one of the main reasons Kerry won last year and is still few years younger then the Dub and Monaghan man.

Not even the best corner forward in the country as this title is held by McManus in my opinion.
But he is probably in the top 4 or 5 alright.

Connelly
Murphy
McManus

Would be my top 3, he would probably slot in after them and then you have the rest.

Im afraid his play acting, diving, sneering and general unsporting behaviour leaves me with a disliking of the lad.Great player, but questionable character.
