Cillian O'Connor - just how good can he be?

geoff

I doubt you were watching the game yesterday. O Connor brought real class and quality when he came on. He had the 15 man Tyrone defence in a bit of bother every time he got the ball.

youngfella27 when the ball was kicked onto the post O Connor was stand in the small square which isn't allowed according to the rules. Very poor that the officials didn't spot it.

even someone like mcmenemin who wouldnt be a guaranteed starter at dublin id rate as a better player. i think hed struggle to break into the dubs forward line connolly b brogan flynn kilkenny mcmenemin id all say are better and hed be neck n neck with a few others in or around the dubs panel.

As a Dub I would be delighted to have COC. Would be in my Dublin team.
Very good young player. Great freetaker, great attitude. May not have the speed of others but a smart player, like COC, can compensate for this. I agree with those who say he doesn't offer as much as others from play but with a bit more experience he has the potential to develop this side of his game.

I doubt if how well its dispatched makes any difference to the rules.

Feared forward??? ah the Mayo lads have rose tinted glasses on... He came on yesterday, got a yellow card( i have stated before his discipline is a huge issue) scored an illegal goal, fouled the keeper in the build up, kicked two bad bad wides from open play, so he hardly set the game alight.. He is a good player but miles off the class players like, the Gooch, Bernard Brogan, P Joyce etc in my own opinion.

the goal was a good goal the ball come off the post so the goal counts, that's the rules from what I can get them anyway... to much talk over silly things, there wasn't a half decent challenge or hit in the game, football in back in the day is what is needed. Darren fay giving hits and taking hits no lying down and crying, GAA footballers are to soft at the minute!!!

Good forward but lacks a bit of discipline. Will make a great centre forward with his excellant football brain.

You on a windup youngfella?

There is nothing in the rules about the ball coming of the post, the goal should not have counted.

Only time will tell hoe good O'Connor will become, he's a very good player and I have my doubts he will improve from now on, I don't have have him down as one of the top 5 forwards in the country. In fairness his ability to win turnovers is greater than any other forward.

Belclare1, p joyce? Sure stick in Sean Purcell while you are at it... Don't you worry, you will know all about him if you can make it to the Connacht semi final...

I say fair play to him for fouling the keeper, tyrone were playing this way all day, we were daft letting them do it. A forward with a bit of an edge is no bad thing. I hope he fouls every keeper he meets this year and gets away with every one, and if he was your player you would say the same.

I meant its not a square ball, because you can be in the square before the ball anyway.

It was a square ball, and on top of that the 'fair' shoulder was into the left flank of Peter Hughes which is not allowed.

Good player but not as good as Murphy/Brogan/Connolly/Flynn/Gooch/JOD/McManus or Tommy Walsh if he gets back to his old form.

Discipline issues continue to follow him around also.

Maybe, but then Sean Cavanagh was going over like he was surrounded by banana skins, and the amount of tyrone guys playing dead on the ground whenever they lost possession made me think someone had released a few grizzly bears onto the pitch. Them are the breaks. Tyrone done more than their share of dishing out, cant be complaining about getting it back.

______

You need to check the rules again as the square ball rule among others was changed in 2012. The O Connor goal Sunday should not have stood.
