Wexford v Waterford - predictions

One of your own, the highly respected journalist Martin Breheny, summed up yere bandwagoning propensities after the Under 21 Final in Thurles in 2002. The previous year Wexford and Limeerick contested the corresponding game and attracted a crowd of 34,000 people. Going for the three in a row the following year LK probably attracted a somewhat bigger crowd. Yet only 20,000 people attended the game and Breheny claimed Galway supporters were outnumbered by as much as 20 to 1. Breheny wondered what the same Tribesman supporters who had created such a rumpus demanding tickets for the previous years Senior Final were doing failing to support their team the following year.

At the fear or a lot of criticism from fellow Wexford folk was at the game in Ennis where there was maybe 600, 700 max Wexford supporters! Portlaoise for the Antrim game wasn't much better.. But those results have instilled belief and hopefully now this team will keep getting the huge following they deserve! The roar at the final whistle was something else yesterday and hopefully there will be a louder one in Thurles Sunday and many more in the years ahead!

Well done to wexford story of the hurling year in my view. May many more wexford men women and children travel to thurles next Sunday. Hurling needs wexford great supporters down the years. Hard luck to Waterford but they are rebuilding and will b back in the next year r two.

Firstly well done to both teams on Saturday nights game. A great game and delighted to see Wexford prevail. It will be some game next Sunday in Thurles and I am looking forward to it already. Great to see Wexford bank competitive again.

The only sour note of the night was spending the bones of 2 hours trying to get out of O Loughlin Gaels car park after the match. Paid a fiver to park the car and the stewards did not appear for an hour after the match. Had small children in the car and it was disgraceful setup. I will not be caught in that car park again. If you are going to take peoples money then make sure you have the stewards in place to handle the traffic afterwards. Very Very poor show.

I fancied Waterford but fair play to Wexford. The better team and undoubted room for further improvement. Always had great respect for Liam Dunne and like Davy in Clare he seems to have the players eating out of his hand so to speak.

A team most definitely heading in the right direction. I thought Redmond was MOTM, covered serious ground.

Fair play to Waterford also. A team in transition that are going in the right direction. I was slightly baffled though that it took so long to switch Moran and Brick. Both started in their wrong positions anyway imo

Mtleinster Nowlan Park is some place for atmosphere but getting out of Kilkenny is a problem. We had same last year at Tipp KK spent over 2 hours in the car park. Every town seems to be the same I guess needs more organisation. Not many big games held in Kilkenny IMO and it should be used more.

There was some crowd at it doh fair play to all who turned up. If it was on RTE im sure a lot would not have travelled. Maybe the SKY deal is having an impact here on more people attending games than watching them on tv.

Looking forward already to Sundays games and to see what the crowd will be like.

In fairness WildPundit, I think Wexford fans will travel to Kilkenny/Thurles/Carlow/Dublin etc, people slate them for the small attendance v Clare - it was a 3 hour drive for those of us who travelled looking for a miracle rather than in any sort of expectation. We thought we were exiting the championship.
That car park in O'Louglin Gaels is the worst car-park in history, parked in it a couple of years ago, never ever again as think it took well over an hour and a half to get out of it, having paid 5 euro for the privilege....

Agree with the posts about atmosphere in Nowlan Park. It was brilliant. I couldn't say enough about the stewards both going into and inside the grounds. They were very friendly and welcoming. I had great banter with one of them about meeting Kilkenny in the final. It was an absolutely brilliant evening and great value too with the kids tickets only 5 euro each. It was just so disappointing to come back to the car park and sit for 2 hours with no sign of stewards for the first hour. Even Liam on South East Radio didn't improve the mood.
they took some money in O Loughlin Gaels, the least they could have done was to organise stewards to ensure that mayhem didn't ensue.
